lol. actually, long range fisherman in southern california fish the hx all day/night long. compare it to a traditional 30 size reel which holds same amount of line and its a feather. great review!
great vid just about to buy one of these and seen this vid just made do you think a pier would consider this a oversized reel and i love casting my mxl mcc.
NCwhiteboy not trying to be rude as I've expressed my feeling on another video but the bearings in these reels are horrible if u change them their fine but why change them in a reel that costs that much? why not buy one that's good from the factory?
This might be late but I'll give my $0.02 so you can take it for what it's worth. I've been fishing the regular HXW 5/2 (non mc) for about 6 months now. So far it has been used to cast out 5oz-8oz surf weights with a chunk of mullet on them and it has been great. It doesn't cast like a Daiwa Sealine but it's close enough, you just have to thumb the spool very well because it spins FAST. I got it to replace a TLD 25 that we use for Tarpon, Kingfish and Jacks from the pier but it turns out it casts pretty good so I had been using it for cast out baits for Bull Reds and Black Drum. I loaded it up with 40lb Momoi, set the strike to 10lbs which makes it 16lbs at full. My only complaints are the clicker isn't very loud and the first couple of notches between freespool and strike are useless (very light, not enough drag to stop line from coming out while fishing with the surf weights) and then the drag starts to ramp up very quickly (where as the tld drag curve is pretty linear). Just finished loading it up with a 33 yard topshot of 80lb mono (for abrasion resistance from pier and pylons) and now just waiting for the Tarpon, Kings and Jacks to start rolling in.
Hi there how do u do, my pleasure to msg you, great fan of yours. I'm from Cape Town South Africa, highly into surf angling from the beach need to know are lever drag reels castable, like to cast the lead out to like 80 or 100 meters. How wud that Avet HX Raptor be? Or which Lever Drag would u recommend to me for this type of angling?
It only seems big because carp n cod is all you got , lol Where i come from , line capacity on that aint nearly enough and yes we cast them ,,,,, australia When you do a review you must do a complete and comprehensive review , this should include the worst after market support of any company out there, make no mistake ! No where near the tiagra, talica ,saltiga or okuma for that matter with a 10 year warranty . 1 year doesnt cut it

Lol, great sense of humor. Thanks for the review, Cheers!
would salt water intrusion on the harness lug gap hole be a long term issue for source of corrosion?
I love Avets & this is a top notch review.
Thanks for the video. Would love to see you talk some 130's?
I would really like to know what you think about their bearings?
....especially lacking the drainage holes which most reels have...
I have #3 of 24 HXW5/2MC. Never used on a brand new custom jawbone
I ser Jamie do you mag Avets HXW3/S RAPTOR LEVER DRAG CASTING REEL?? And if you do how much do you charge??
Check out the new Avets, much better handle and louder clickers. The Brothers at Avet listen to their customers.
@Blueskies The Raptor has good range.

Think its down to the size of fish you are after!

Late to the party, why would a pier care about reel size?
It's not stainless steel, it is 6061 aluminum
