A cast member gave my boyfriend these after chatting with him at checkout and he shared that we all flew in for my 30th birthday. It was our first time to the Disneyland parks and had no idea until now they were so rare! We also got a "citizens map" with each one. Thanks for sharing!
We went in June last year for my eldest 7th Birthday, so she had a Birthday Button ( a couple actually). She had so many CM's and characters at the parade (Elsa and Anna!) wishing her Happy Birthday that she didn't wear it the next day at DCA.
When we did the World of Color Dessert Party, we had a wonderful CM who became an honorary "Uncle" to our kids. He was awesome, took great care of us while also being part of a promo they were filming behind us. Surreal experience, but with two younger kids who are small for their ages anyway, having seats for the show was worth it, even if you're not a dessert fan or feel the dessert is worth it. We ate those desserts for nearly the rest of the week we were there.
Another day we were sitting in Downtown Disney just enjoying some people watching and resting our feet. One of the older custodians came over and chatted with us. Really nice to chat and just distract the tired and slightly cranky kids.
All of the characters and princesses were lovely and really took the time to greet and make everyone (not just our group) feel welcome.
There were others as every employee we saw was simply awesome and you could tell they were trying their best. The fact that they aren't paid enough always rubs me the wrong way and there is absolutely no reason (other than greed) why they aren't paid a decent wage. That said, for those that go to the parks, please, please treat the Cast Members like human beings and remember the Golden Rule.

I don't have one but I had heard that you can go to City Hall and they'll ask you trivia questions. Haven't ever tried though
We got those from CM's who saw how dedicated we were for being at the EE line while staying at GCH at 6:00am, consistently. All 5 of us. Worth it, but I never missed sleep so much :)

My daughter got a red lanyard on radiator springs. Apparently its a counter to see how long lines are and is very rare and an honor to carry...we found out by many locals around us who were so excited she got it. Maybe someone else can give us more info as i thought it was no big deal but went along with it for her.
I've heard about this but have never actually seen it happen myself. Pretty cool you got to experience that!

Not that rare. I got mine for asking a trivia question about Ub Iwerks. I have lots of early disney stuff, including my Mickey Mouse Club membership card, which was issued by the clubhouse on Main Street in 1959
We turned some money we had found laying on the ground gave it to a cast member that's how we got ours
