For Context: The Jedi do not kidnap children, they can however ask the children if they want or are willing to become a Jedi. But ultimately it is left up to the parents. This show does not show that.
The Jedi would however, monitor this planet very carefully to prevent Sith from kidnapping these children or if the coven were dabbling in dark side of the force. Which if this was Lucas era star wars, this coven would have to go before a tribunal for using dark side powers on the Padawan. That would not go unanswered.
This show is just making stuff up as it goes along at this point.

    • @justinhammer3196
      @justinhammer3196 5 місяців тому +9

So which us it? The Jedi say in the show the Witches are not allowed to train children. But you don't think the Jedi should do anything about the fact the witches are training children even though you say in the lore they wouldn't allow it?

    • @Phelestat

@@justinhammer3196 If this was the original lore, the minute they used dark side powers the Jedi would have retreated and came back in force for them to go before a republic tribunal to answer for it and have to explain what they are doing. If they resisted the Jedi would wipe them out, with the backing of the republic and take the children. But, as I said this is lazy horrible writing.

"It's only four Jedi. Who would miss them?"
What an absolutely wild statement to come from a Star Wars show. The Jedi aren't random foot soldiers. There are very few of them at any given time, and each one is considered extremely valuable. They all have tons of responsibilities and most serve as Generals in the military. Even one going missing would be considered a major event.

@revolvertaco7493 I think it's more likely that the director just has no idea how valuable a Jedi's time is. Like I said before, it feels like they consider the Jedi to be common foot soldiers. Sending groups on missions was common, but they would usually have only one Master Jedi and MAYBE a Padawan. The rest of the group would be non-jedi soldiers or ship crew members.

Weren't there many, many Jedi across the galaxy at this point in history? Like, thousands or more? They've already established that there are localised Jedi temples on different worlds, implying huge numbers. It's hardly a plot hole or against lore that they sent 4 Jedi to deal with a coven of force witches, and in their desperation/arrogance the witches tried to convince themselves that they could get away with killing them secretly.

  • @RegulaBadlander
    @RegulaBadlander 5 місяців тому +532

Anakin's creation is meant to be special due to the fact that he was a direct rebuttal to attempted manipulation by the Sith. Plageuis and Palpatine essentially went too far. The whole point was that using the force for your own selfish ends will always cause backlash. The witches essentially make it seem like anyone can just poof kids into existence whenever they feel like it...

      @danyul2571 5 місяців тому +12

You're looking at that (really good) theory and calling it fact. And it is a good theory with lots of supporting dialogue from novelizations and cut content. But ultimately all that is definitive was that Anakin's existence is to act as a way to bring balance to the force, whether sith alchemy was involved or not.
Star wars is a universe of infinite possibilities, when the witches of dathomir were introduced I was shocked at the existence of the force being used in ways to tie the spirit to a body after death, raise an army of undead and create swords out of thin air.
How is this any different? It doesn't detract from the significance of the chosen one, and it expands how different cultures would utilize and perceive the force.
I'm not saying these are reasons to like the show, imo the show should be looking better based on its budget. All in all it's just another addition to the Disney cannon. I like both legends and some of the Disney stuff, (don't like the sequel trilogy though) but there's also been a lot of cool stuff. And it more than I would have expected if George still had it, I think for George outside of the main movies he has always given absolute freedom for the most part, and he also knew how to piss off fans as expertly as Disney does. So really if newer star wars stuff is still pissing off fans then I dunno job well done I guess.

Case in point, he told them to kill Anakin Solo because he was too close to being like Anakin Skywalker if he stayed on the Light Side. Which, by the way, pissed me off so yeah George had that knack.
But yeah, it's a great theory that I like but I so wish it was just canon period. Really loved that novel.

The parents have every right to say “no”, and if they do there’s nothing the Jedi can do about it.

@@White_Recluse the only repercussion for refusing the Jedi's offer of training was the kid would not be allowed to be trained in the force out of fear you'd have a rogue dark sider running lose, which is actually pretty reasonable when you think about it. The choice the parents had was let the kid get trained to use their powers.... or just don't. That's it.
in the original lore, the stuff written by adults, people were also kind of eager to get their kids tested while young enough to enter the Jedi order. They looked up to the Jedi as legitimate good guys, your kid could grow up to be a literal hero. The Jedi didn't have to go out looking for random kids to steal, they had more candidates then they had the ability to train.
The Phantom Menace, flawed as that movie was, made it clear that everything about Anakin's discovery was very much abnormal, and the Jedi council worked very hard NOT to have him trained because of his emotional state, regardless of his actual power levels

"The Force Surrounds us, Penetrates us, Binds the Galaxy Together"
    • Medichlorians are force charged cells in everyone and everything
    • a higher Medichlorian count means easier to manipulate the force
    • Some are more Force Sensitive than others and then "Gifted"
    • the force itself is unbiased but is perceived as having two side.
    • the results of leading on either side shows in how it effects you.
    • the Lightside could turn you into a Force Ghost
    • the Darkside will give you Yellow eyes and extreme Hatred. Maybe lighting too
    • The Force itself can almost do anything but its usually wholely depends on the individual's level of skill and power
+Examples of the Force Abilities are:
Force Telepathy, precognition, healing, "persuasion", Force Jump & Speed, Force Stasis, Projection, "Mind Control," Force Lightning & Electric Judgment, Force Storm, Force Purge, Zombie Ritual, "Have Baby" and of course Stupidfiy

Luke's Growth is well displayed and shown, you see him struggle. When he fought Vader for the first time he lost his hand (like his father) and ran away.
But with Rey she's plowing through it all and gets the hang easily, when she Fought Kylo Ren she won every encounter. The man is a seasoned fighter up against a rookie!

And due to witches connection to the dark side, what they allegedly done in this show, creating life, especially on this scale, is outright impossible. Not improbable, impossible. Dark side users can manipulate life, but where Jedi can outright heal, Sith version is of more vampiric nature.

Most infamously Kyp Durron.
There was also a period - or multiple periods - in the ancient past where Jedi had families. And even during the Clone Wars period there was Ki-Ai-Mundi (or whatever his name was) who was allowed an exception to the rule because of his species having an extreme gap of a lot more women than men so his species survival would have taken a major hit had he been held to the same rule.
Plus there was the direct Padawan rule where established Jedi did more frequently take on older Padawans directly (which is what Qui-Gon tried to do when the Council denied Anakin training).
At its core, the rule focusing on only taking in small children was at its core that 1) provided an obstacle for Anakin, and 2) was part of the larger picture of the old Jedi having fallen away from what they were supposed to be.
But it was also a rule that wasn't without merit and made sense from the perspective of Jedi trying to uphold order.
And ultimately, the fact that Luke's order managed to make things mostly work even without the restriction in place demonstrated that the old Jedi weren't wrong in their concerns, but perhaps went about trying to fix it in the wrong way.
Rather, had they focused on Yoda's wisdom of 'learn to enjoy the time you have with those you love and let go of them when they die' that he gave to Anakin instead, it would have solved a lot of problems.

The Jedi Temple was on Coruscant, which was the capital planet of the Galactic Republic. The Jedi had open communications with every planet in the Republic and every non-Republic planet associated with those planets. If a young child displayed obvious strength in the Force for their species, there were channels to request an envoy from the Jedi temple to observe and test the child.
The Jedi live through example, and only offer training, not demand it. If training is refused by the child, they accept that refusal, because the training cannot be effective if forced upon the child. If the training is refused by the parents, they also accept the parents’ wishes; to do otherwise would cause unnecessary distress in the child and disrupt their training. Also, if someone does go through training, but decides to leave the Jedi Order, they are allowed to do so.
The Jedi deem a child “too old” to receive training, because as you age, it becomes difficult to overcome pre-conceived notions and ideas about yourself, others, and the universe in general. Children are more malleable and open to new ideas. It is usually harder for more developed minds to fully open themselves to the Force and allow the Force to flow through them. The Jedi also understand the relationship between masters and padawans must be built on trust and mutual respect in order for the training to be effective.

It seemed to me from Episode 1 that a big part of being "too old" is, the Jedi want to start training when children are young enough to forget all attachments they had before, even to their parents. You never hear Jedi talking about their parents, only their Jedi masters. Yoda's objection to Anakin was that he was too old (at age 9!), had attachments to his mother, and was afraid of losing her. That was the fear that leads to anger, hate and suffering -- and indeed, when Anakin failed to save his mother in Episode 2, his desire for revenge motivated his first evil act. The Jedi in the prequels talk a lot about how personal attachments are dangerous for a Jedi, and Palpatine is able to use Anakin's feelings for Padme and his desire for the power to save her, as a way of manipulating him.
One can question the rightness of separating extremely young children from their parents and raising them as monks with no personal attachments, but this was already lore about the Jedi long before The Acolyte.
I do wonder, though -- how much consent can a child really have, if a nine-year-old is too old?

If anything the Jedi are still clearly the good guys here despite all the show's attempts to paint them as "bad", they did nothing wrong.
They are like child protective services, they felt something was off about the way these children were being trained and they were right, what kind of sister tells her twin sister she will "end her" if she leaves, then proceeds to set her room on fire (the impossible physics of that is a whole different issue) but clearly one of the sisters was really messed up in the head before the Jedi arrived, the Jedi had every right to be suspicious and wanting to take them away.
Also the notion Jedi always just take children by force from their parents is not true, Star Wars Theory pointed out this strawman in his latest video, go give it a,watch, for example, in the prequels the Jedi council literally refused to accept in and train Anakin because he was too old, it was Qui-Gon Jinn dying wish that persuaded them to do it.

They were given that power primarily in times of war since a trained force user is basically a WMD and the Republic didn't want their enemies getting hold of such a resource. In peace the Jedi only take the very young because they find longer training creates more controlled and balanced Jedi.
There actually have been Jedi led genocides (mostly known as the Sith Purge). It was started when the Jedi banned the use of Force Alchemy/Sorcery and the rebels in the organization joined with a dark side race on Korriban known as the Sith. (the Sith race actually had produced a number of Jedi) Force Alchemy was an extremely high level of dark force power that manipulated life itself and the Jedi (who at that time practiced a balance of light and dark, the light side only Jedi was an overcorrection on the Jedi after the wars) felt it was acting like god. Results include but are not limited to: the Rakh-gouhl plague - disease based mutated zombies (you literally slowly turn into a slavering monster with your mind being consumed by it over days or weeks) that had wiped out life on several planets, Darkwing Scourge - immortality tests that resulted in a hive mind zombie that slowly learned, Dathomiry witches enslaving the Rancor species and turning them into monsters, enslaving nearby villages for supplies and taking men for mates (who were killed afterwards) or assassins/bodyguards, created zombies, "voodoo" poisoned or controlled people, creating life - Anakin Skywalker, ect.

It's ridiculous how the Acolyte writes and portrays the Jedi as being kind, respectful, and non-violent, yet tries to make them seem like villains. The witches were the ones to make the first move, and the Jedi were _still_ willing to leave peacefully and without a fuss, but the fact that the witches kept trying to interfere (and the fact that they use the Dark Side) means that their deaths were well deserved.
_Because_ the witches are clearly Dark Side users, the Jedi would've been justified in simply taking the twins when they were out in the forest, but they didn't; the Jedi went to the effort of trying to establish a peaceful accord with the witches and allowing them to let the children go on their own terms, and they were even willing to leave the planet _without_ the children if they couldn't come to an agreement, so the Jedi were _completely_ in the right throughout the episode.
Also, to clear any confusion, the Jedi have the right to _test_ someone for their Force potential, but they don't actually _take_ them unless their parents give their consent. Not only that, but the Jedi themselves allow parents to decline the tests in the first place. The one thing that happens in this episode that I disagree with is Torbin not telling the child that he was going to take a blood sample, but even then that could be chalked up as a mistake on his part due to inexperience.

It's understandable that the coven would be defensive, knowing that the Jedi were spying on them, plus they don't necessarily have reason to trust the Jedi, so in their fear can't be sure that the Jedi wouldn't just take the children. The mother also fears that the children will want to become Jedi, and choose to leave voluntarily. As the old witch says, "If they pass the test, the girls will leave", and one of the twins says, "if we pass, they take us away and we'll never see our mother again". So whether the Jedi would automatically take them on passing the test or not, the witches believe that they would.
So far the story is simply doing a good job at showing how fear, distrust and misunderstanding between two competing ideologies can get out of control.
The Jedi say: "We are concerned that you are training children. Republic law states -" This implies that only the Jedi can train force sensitive children, suggesting that the Jedi would forcefully take the children as the only way of preventing their training outside the Jedi order, regardless of whether dark side force magic was being used or not. Why? From the coven's perspective this is clearly wrong, and why shouldn't it be? Why does the Jedi religion have the only right to mould force potential children to fit their particular belief system? You say that the coven is using dark side magic and you may be right - there are certainly allusions to it - but so far we've seen no conclusive narrative evidence of this. The Jedi way of training children isn't necessarily without its flaws either; prohibiting them from having any attachments, to the extent of denying them meaningful relationships with their own family, has been shown in future stories (timeline wise) to be one of the causes of their downfall, and one of Anakin's main reasons for turning to the dark side.
The point is, it's not as clear cut as "the Jedi are entirely good and justified, and the witches are entirely bad and wrong."

How it is in actual canon Jedi seek out force sensitive children and ask their parents for permission to take the children to the temple to join the order. These children are usually 3-5, because the Jedi don't believe in attachments so they normally take the children before they get too old. In the case with Anakin he was too old and already attached to his mother so the Jedi council originally didn't want to take him in. It was only after Quin Gon died that the council finally decided to take him in, to respect his wishes.
What's happening with Osha and Mae, wouldn't normally happen at all, the writers specifically did it like this to paint the Jedi as the bad guys and the witches as the good guys despite the fact they clearly worship the dark side. So yeah the Jedi aren't actually saints, and there have been extreme cases where they take children by force, but only when absolutely necessary.
So no, the Jedi aren't like this normally, the writers just wanted to paint them as the bad guys.

The witches are supposed to be exiled and are not supposed to have children, since the mothers are hiding the fact that the twins were conceived by the use of the force, the Jedi looking into the matter to see if one of them may be thr chosen one, hence why they are so interested in osha.

There's a very easy lesson the star wars movies taught us both in the original trilogy and again in the prequels. Love leads to fear, fear leads to grief, grief leads to hatred, and hatred leads to the dark side. The Jedi absolutely do not like taking on new students have have strong attachments to someone, the Jedi council absolutely REFUSED to take on Anakin even though it was Qui Gon's dying wish, it was only until Obi Wan threatened to defect if he was not allowed to teach Anakin that they relented. The Jedi would ABSOLUTELY not go to a random ass planet of witches and try to kidnap one of two twin girls that had their parents still in their lives., they would probably not take on those two twins as Jedi even if the witches BEGGED the Jedi to do so because of the huge fucking risk they would to becoming Sith.

Untrue. Forget what you thought you learned from the expanded universe and watch the movies again. Jedi have bonds and loves, and grow stronger through those bonds. That's a thing that happens in the original six films. Lucas himself, makes an out-of-setting statement about that very thing, saying Jedi are against _unhealthy_ forms of attachment.
"and also a lot of Jedi, in addition, became the very arrogant"
Wrong. Yoda specifically talked about this, and he said "some," and that at the time of Episode 2, that was a flaw that was growing more common. That was growing more common though, because of something people tend to forget about because, I swear, nobody ever watches the movies, the ability of the Jedi to use the Force was diminishing, and it was diminishing because Palpatine had tipped the balance of the Force all the way into dark.

I've never been an expert on the lore, but Jedi training starts when children are younger than 4 if i remember correctly and they indeed looked for force sensitive kids...but they NEVER took them by force or creepy subterfuge and it was always a choice of the family to give them up to the order. It might feel weird but you gotta understand that in the "old canon" force sensitive people were extremely rare and most of the time the family made that choice because the order would have provided a better life and safety to the kid. They had to be young because children can more easily open their mind to the force and because the jedi tought that emotional attachments to the family could lead to the dark side because of the fear of loss (as Yoda says "Fear is the path to the dark side... fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering"), this was one of the rules that got changed when Luke rebuilt the order (in the old canon at least). The way this show portrays the jedi is so creepy and stupid.

If this was written by Lucas, the Jedi would've seen the Zabrak mother (the one with horns) and instantly realise she was a force user attuned to the dark side of the force, that's what the black markings signifies in the Zabrak race. They would then ask to test the children, with no manipulation. Plus under Lucas Jedi would only take the child if the parents or guardians agreed.
*edit* Also the lack of horns on both twins and the lack of Black Markings on Mae (both as a child, where shes clearly on the path to being "evil", and as an adult where she's a Sith Acolyte) leads me to believe that even though the Zabrak carried them they don't have any of her DNA.
