Today's video features my 19-month-old Flame Point Persian/Himalayan cat. His eyes tear and build up bacteria every few hours and his long, fine fur can easily get knotted. In this video, I show you how I brush his fur to prevent knots and how I clean his face. I've also included how I brush his teeth, and the vitamins I give him everyday. If you have a Persian cat like mine, these tips will definitely help you!

You cannot be rough with these cats . There eyes are so tender. Also never wipe in the eye. Because you have to clean daily you have to be soft and use warm water. I agree with the other person break up the grooming and once again not so rough. He is making a fuss because he hates this and its not good to free comb you are pulling his skin it is delicate you have to hold at the skin so you are not ripping at its skin. Im glad you take care of your Persian but trust me NO Hydrogen Peroxide. There so much more I could recommend but I am very careful with all my Persians and when I was a bit quick on one of the on her eyes because she hated it she had to get 3 months of medication and her eyes were swollen I did not know but through the year I know now with 45 years of owning Persians

Thanks so much for this video! I wasn't cleaning like this -- I was being too gentle and it wasn't working.
I would add that instead of using the toothbrush she used in the video, a baby toothbrush is much softer for the gum area. Also, please do not use hydrogen peroxide to clean the eyes. It is too irritating and could damage their eyesight!
Hydrogen peroxide concerned me too. I use Eye Envy.
I think she meant diluted with water, but of course you should always take care and consult with you own cat’s veterinarian!

I use a tiny amount of Vaseline on a qtip if you get eye boogers that get stuck on. The eye issues are caused by feline herpes. Most cats carry the virus. Colloidal silver water helps to reduce the problem. You can put a couple of drops in the eye each day or use it to wipe the eye area instead of water. He is so beautiful! He's lucky to have a loving Momma!

Never use hydrogen perioxide. I got some into my own eye and ended up un the ER. Ouch!!! Don’t do it.

Please, don't buy pets, adopt them instead. There are millions of abandoned Persian cats in the world because of all the extra care and vet bills they need. This bred has health issues due to the modifications that humans have performed on them in order to get flatter faces for instance which causes respiratory problems among other issues.
I only just read your message so its probably a bit late but it might help others to read on. I bought my Persian cat from an accredited breeder because i want a cat with a good temperament, from a good home and a known healthy bloodline to reduce the risk of the health issues Persian cats can have. I have purposely not gone for an extreme flat faced Persian because of the eye and nose problems this can cause and I completely agree overbreeding is bad when the cat's health is put at risk for their looks, just like dogs and other pets. Because we have had too much ill health & loss in the family, vets bills are so much and I am only getting this (my second cat) and no more I want one from a kitten so I can be sure it has been fed and medically treated correctly from the start and gets used to being handled, groomed and bathed regularly from an early age. Knowing what you are getting and doing your research before you get a cat is vital. Well done for watching videos like this that show you what looking after a pet really can entail. Look into breeds, temperament, care, health problems and most importantly make sure you meet the cat and its parents if it is a kitten to make sure it is for you and you are happy with its care and temperament and that of its parents and siblings. I would love to rescue a cat but getting a cat who is sick or has long term hidden problems from previous owners, is old or unhappy to be groomed or handled would just not work for my kids and family and what we need from a pet right now. People who visit can't believe how friendly, cuddly and happy to be handled my two cats are, one Persian now 9 months and and one rag doll mix 14 months old; so many visitors are used to the scratchy, hissy, bitey cats that ignore you at best. Even the grumpiest cat hater has melted before them after a few fluffy purrs. I had rescue cats as a child and they tolerated us but these two love us, or at least kid us into thinking they do. When I am older, not working and my husband has gone (he restricts my cat numbers) I can become a rescue cat lady. I hope you take your time, do your research and find the RIGHT cat or kitten for YOU and get it spayed or neutered. Rescue cat or not, that is the best thing you can do to prevent your cat or its offspring needing rescuing. Good luck x

Please be very very careful with hydrogen peroxide near the eyes!! The vet I work for does not recommend that.
I would never use it. Nor do our vets here ever recommend the use of hydrogen peroxide near the eyes. And use a different cotton pad for each eye so you don't cross contaminate. Been doing this for 39 years.

I groom my persian every day, she enjoys it and doesn't fight it. It's all about consistency and your energy.
Btw- If you groom your persian daily..it's not such a surprise & a fight.

Does this young woman have any idea the dialogue her cat is having with her?? He is really hating this. With THIS cat, she needs to 'break up" the grooming sequence. This cat is telling her -- I can only handle so much at one time. He's pretty chill through the eye cleaning, but that grooming comb is not only grating against his skin...it's grating against his last nerve.
He gave her all kinds of signals that he was about to get fed up before he bit/clawed her. She is either oblivious or doesn't really care that her cat is in distress. I think this grooming routine is painful for BOTH of them.
It's cool this cat recovers quickly from his distress as we see at the end when he greedily licks her finger clean of the yummy stuff on her finger. Bur seriously, sweetie, maybe you're just busy and haven't really noticed or you noticed and don't know how to make it better for the both of you, but darlin--- you got a sweet cat -- be KIND to him.
Grooming takes time. Grab a cup of tea, your grooming materials and your cat. Turn on the tv and with him in your lap just start petting him and get him relaxed. Then just start using that comb to gently glide through his hair. When you hit a mat, note where it is and move on. You can deal with that LATER. For now this is relax time for you both. Be conscientious of the angle and pressure you apply against his skin with the comb. This cat seems to be the kind of cat that would let you groom him most of the day -- as long as he isn't experiencing discomfort or stress. Grooming should be relaxing for both of you.
These cats, as you well know require particular attention to matting in the undercoat. Those mats form almost overnight and are a never ending concern. You're probably a busy young woman with an active social life. Buy a comb for every room in the house. Catch him lying around, pick up a comb and give him a couple of swipes with it just to keep the grooming less of an overwhelming task.
Just give it some thought...didn't mean to be critical but that cat should never be pushed beyond what he can handle...and he was pushed into letting you know--I've had enough for now.

The handling of your cat is disturbing to me. I have owned Persians for 30 years, you have to be gentler when combing him, especially when you come across mats. No hydrogen dioxide near his eyes. He was crying out because it hurt!

You are not brushing him correctly. The comb is hurting him. Use slicker brush. Cats usually love to be brushed and do not fuss.
That comb you us is hurting him. It is way too rough and is probably scraping his skin.
If your Persian is getting that aggressive, something is seriously wrong. Please consider a different brush.
