That's a Persian cat for you. I have a Himalayan and oh my goodness. Most extremely gentle and sweetest thing. Their bodies feel extremely gentle and relaxed. He loves to be groomed. So much fur I guess he thinks he's being pet instead.
Jowariya Khan Doll Face are traditional Persians. They are not really like the Himalayan and ultra standard Persian I am talking about that the ACFA goes by. The AFCA doesn't even really recognize dollface, traditional as well as they do the really ultra types which are now standard hun. Even though they are Persians they don't have the sweet temper like the standard ultra does. This is why the ultra (peke) is extremely way more popular especially with the ACFA
My Persian cat & I are watching you groom Benji. She is smaller & fawn color & looks a lot like Benji. I can’t believe not one meow out of him! What a sweetheart he is!!!
Thank you for viewing the video and your important question. I groom in a very urban area (nyc) where 99.9% of the cats are indoor cats so they are not getting flea/tick products on their coat. Even these cats can be bathed either before administering the product or several days later. The degreaser I use is very gentle and organic; it doesn't harm their skin or coat. Cats mat because of the oils in their coat and undercoat; those 2 things create knots which turn into mats.Email 4 more info.
2:18 "So the first thing I do before I do anything is, I trim the nails. Because those are what cat groomers call: "The true weapons of mass destruction.'" "LOL!!
He's such a good kitty, and a beautiful Persian! Just goes to show that regular grooming makes the process go so much more smoothly! It's clear he really likes being groomed!
For cat grooming, you need to use a clipper with a lot of torque (powerful clippers). I use the Andis Excel which is lightweight and pretty quiet. The Wahl Super Blade or Storm is excellent too, though quite a bit noisier from what I have heard from other cat groomers. A cat's skin is quite thin and can tear easily if you don't know what you are doing with the clippers. I always caution owners who want to shave their own cats. Good luck!
I have had some pretty good luck with cats! Only one or two of the ones I have groomed have had a good solid meltdown or have gotten aggressive with me. It's nice to see owners bring their high-maintenance cats in as kittens knowing it's going to be a lot of work.
What a good boy! My 11 year old Zot has fought me like I am trying to drown her and screams like a banshee just trying to groom her. I was using a slicker brush, but it is hard to groom a cat that is fighting you as you are trying to clean the brush out. What would you recommend in this situation?
My cat is a Persian and she has a ton of fur matting up and I am just too afraid to do it myself! Do you think pet-co will be able to do this the proper way?
It depends if your Petco has a competent cat groomer on staff. Cat grooming is very different than dog grooming. And, the mat removal is different. You'll have to research your Petco or other local grooming shop on their cat grooming expertise.
Dear Pet Maven, thank for the video, 17 dislikes, what's wrong with you people? I have a Lilac point Himy, she is compliant, thank goodness. Usually get umbrella cut. Groomer says if she cuts the long hair off it will not grow back. She is beautiful, but it's a chore for her to self groom sometimes, What do you think about the hair comment, I would like to see her in a teddy bear cut. Johnnie
That's what a lot of clients say, but if start them when they are young and get them on a regular grooming schedule the cat does get use to the whole process. Benji has been groomed regularly since he was a kitten. And generally Persian cats have good temperaments.
Great video, Thank you! He looked so good and your clip was very neat. I have been taught that to avoid products that strip oil from cat skin/fur. This is especially as they have such a thin epidermis dermis layer leaving them vulnerable to infection but also, many flea/worming control products can be stripped from the skin before they are absorbed... please explain the benefit of removing oil from cat skin!!
I have an Exotic that I get shaved with sedation. He is the sweetest until it comes to getting his nails clipped and getting shaved or combed. What brand of clipper are you using? The cat you are shaving is a sweetheart !
I don't know if someone has asked already but what do you do if the cat is afraid of the dryer? I know my two long haired cats are terrified of the vacuum.
I just added a persian, 12 weeks old, to our family. Her first bath....she hated it. she is normally loving, but was trying to scratch me and by the end bit me. Any tips? And how long usually before they tolerate a bath?
I was wondering what brand of hair clippers do you think is the quietest one. My long haired cat loves to be brushed but not sure if I can get her to let me use clippers to shave her so I want to get one she might tolerate thank you I liked your video very much.
i know i'm a bit late to the party but do you have any instructions or tips for people who do not want to trim their persian? i like the natural coat of my cat (though i still trim the fluff on her bum) my cat is somewhere between shy and compliant.
It depends on what you mean by aggressive and specifically what you are doing that creates the behavior. What is the cat doing? Is the cat a rescue or have you had it it's entire life? Most Persian cats are quite sweet and easy to groom. Certainly if you get the cat use to being groomed when it is young it will be easier. Some cats get annoyed quickly so you'll need to break to break up the grooming sessions into small segments. Have you tried a professional cat groomer?
we got our persian from the SPCA so he is slightly less patient with grooming. we usually get his hair shaved about every 6 months but the woman who does it moved away and i was considering doing it myself. what kind of buzzer do you use? and what brand of shampoo/degreaser? are there any tips to get the cat to stay still?
Lila Dykstra Depends on the cat and type of coat. I believe I used a #2 comb guard over a #30 blade, but he was on the shorter side to begin with. Sometimes you need a #4 comb guard. Experiment a little bit since some cats are silkier and some are woolier.
I have a 1yr old male maine coon. He is on the aggressive side. He has not been neutured yet, so I imagine that hormones are contributing to his aggression. I need to have him groomed but am afraid for the groomer(LOL). He has mating on the back of both legs and the base of his tail. How does the process work for this? BTW, he hates vacuums, not fond of water and this will be his first time grooming.
I have no idea what the name of the song is as the video was put together for me by a videographer. If I can find out from him what it is I will let you know.
I just got a persian 3 days ago, he is four months. I can tell the breeder didnt take care of him. She brought him with poop on his hair and he smelled nasty. We gave him a bath and he was so well behaved even with the blow dryer but he has knots like crazy and close to his skin, i have to get him professionally groomed.
You will need to have your vet's office or a cat groomer remove the mat properly. A cat's skin is like paper so it can tear very easily. It will likely need to be clipped out, by someone who is skilled in removing mats. Best of luck!
Glad you found the video helpful. Please email me directly at The Pet Maven; email on the website, and I would be happy to share with you the information on the brand of shampoo etc.
Dude this is the most well behaved, tolerable, sweetest cat I've ever seen. That was unbelievable.
So true

what a good boy. These are the best tempered cats for sure! They can put up with lots!!!
This cat is a dream to be grooming! That must be the result of years of grooming and growing accustomed to the routine.
I want this cat! Lol. So calm and sweet! Well trained!
What a sweet cooperative kitty :)

Can you show us a video with an aggressive cat. My cat goes nuts when trying to give it a bath. Also what brand shampoo and decreaser?
Bengi is beautiful, such a well behaved boy, he looks like he loved the pampering
he looks like a spoiled cat in a good way :) sooo cuute! xD
best cats on the planet the got faces so dopey but funny at the same time and also grumpy makes me laugh all the time.
Benji is such a tolerant cat.
I had no idea cats would sit and tolerate grooming like this
If they are used to it from a kitten they usually are.
Out of all the vids I've seen so far, yours is thee best! Very thoroughly educational, and caring! Great learning experience for me!!!
Awe he is a sweet boy lol ....he looks like he loves this!!! :)
What a well behaved little cutie

He’s the cutest baby ever!!!!
He's such a good kitty, and a beautiful Persian! Just goes to show that regular grooming makes the process go so much more smoothly! It's clear he really likes being groomed!
Persian cats smelt my heart, as soon as I buy my first house I will get two exotic cats immediately

Glad you enjoyed the video. Persians are great cats to groom.
Aww he's such a gran'pa! 😻😹
my doll-faced persian looks just like the one u have as your dp 💕
I love Persians! I have a white Persian who is compliant as well!
Should I get my 18 year old cat groomed? For the first time? I figure she's so old. She deserves to be pampered.
Not a bad video, very comprehensive and obviously not your first cat to be groomed.I like.
What a good boy! My 11 year old Zot has fought me like I am trying to drown her and screams like a banshee just trying to groom her. I was using a slicker brush, but it is hard to groom a cat that is fighting you as you are trying to clean the brush out. What would you recommend in this situation?
Did you just do one length all around? and what length comb did you use?
Such a fancy cute cat
Omg what a sweet and beautiful cat!! Good job!!
Persians are really quiet cat and kinda slow, this is good thing I like about them 'cause it makes everything easier when you give them a bath.
Super helpful how-to!
Thank you💟

Wow almost 15 mins of a cat video! I'm in luck!

Even though I don't have a Persian but my cat has long fur it was still interesting to watch.
What a good kitty!!
Such a cool Persian kitty.
I just added a persian, 12 weeks old, to our family. Her first bath....she hated it. she is normally loving, but was trying to scratch me and by the end bit me. Any tips? And how long usually before they tolerate a bath?
I do the same for the eyes of my doll faced white persian! she loves the toothbrush so much!
I was wondering what brand of hair clippers do you think is the quietest one. My long haired cat loves to be brushed but not sure if I can get her to let me use clippers to shave her so I want to get one she might tolerate thank you I liked your video very much.
He's so cute, I want him!
Thank you so much your video helped me a lot was always wondering how to trim my himalayan persian
i know i'm a bit late to the party but do you have any instructions or tips for people who do not want to trim their persian? i like the natural coat of my cat (though i still trim the fluff on her bum)
my cat is somewhere between shy and compliant.
My cat will never be that calm.

Fairy & Taddy will thank you too : )
I love Benjy!
9:52 spontaneous feline combustion lol
can you share where to buy the tools and products you used in this video? the clippers, degreaser, shampoo, comb? thanks
That degreaser made a ton of difference! Great job, thanks for sharing!
Glad you found the video helpful.
What is the name of the degreaser that you used on Benji?
What do you call that particular style?
Excellent Job!
He's adorable
Can i know what degreaser that you used on this video?
What kind of electric razor did you use?
we got our persian from the SPCA so he is slightly less patient with grooming. we usually get his hair shaved about every 6 months but the woman who does it moved away and i was considering doing it myself. what kind of buzzer do you use? and what brand of shampoo/degreaser? are there any tips to get the cat to stay still?
So cute!
ty very much.
and also, very awesome video.
If I lived near you, I'd strictly take my persian to you for grooming :)
What size guard did you use on your clipper to give him that teddy bear length??
Lila Dykstra Depends on the cat and type of coat. I believe I used a #2 comb guard over a #30 blade, but he was on the shorter side to begin with. Sometimes you need a #4 comb guard. Experiment a little bit since some cats are silkier and some are woolier.
Looks pretty .
What type of comb did you use initially?
My cat is EXTREMELY averse to water, hair dryer, and trimmer. She fights like hell to get away. Any advice?
Where do you get degreaser and what do you use?
I have a 1yr old male maine coon. He is on the aggressive side. He has not been neutured yet, so I imagine that hormones are contributing to his aggression. He is the same good sweet well trained just like this one
I love this cat!
What a sweet and a well-behaved cat! Grooming him looks easier than grooming my boyfriend :/
Thank you for this video this cat is amazing I have a Persian kitten I want to take for grooming but I don’t think he will be as well behaved 😂
Hello, what is the name of the song you used for the ending of this video?
ty in advance
I just got a persian 3 days ago, he is four months. I can tell the breeder didnt take care of him. She brought him with poop on his hair and he smelled nasty. We gave him a bath and he was so well behaved even with the blow dryer but he has knots like crazy and close to his skin, i have to get him professionally groomed.
My persian loves the bath
Where do I get that kind of clipper?
What are the product details?
Thanks.
My cat has matted fur on his upper leg. How can I remove/fix this?
You will need to have your vet's office or a cat groomer remove the mat properly. A cat's skin is like paper so it can tear very easily. It will likely need to be clipped out, by someone who is skilled in removing mats. Best of luck!
Thank you!. The same technique would work for any long haired cat, not just Persian cats.
I NEED scrunchy-faced KITTEH!
Absolutely...will check out yours:) Thanks
It's a royalty-free song from the Mac iMovie program, he doesn't recall the name offhand. (videographer's wife. :) )
do you use a regular hair dryer and what setting?
amek aguilera You can use a velocity dryer which is noisy and but very powerful. Or, I use a regular blow dryer on a warm setting, not hot.
Nicely done
I LOVE THAT CAT!!!!!!! Oh thats my cat: The Benji Guy
None of my two persians would allow anyone doing them all this. :(
Kitty🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱
Glad you found the video helpful. Please email me directly at The Pet Maven; email on the website, and I would be happy to share with you the information on the brand of shampoo etc.
I m havng a persian cat but he dosent like to take a bath at all but i take him for a bath
