Versus Series: Darth Malgus Vs. Darth Krayt (Vector)

  • I will be analyzing Darth Malgus at the height of his power, within the timeframe of The Old Republic MMO, specifically the False Emperor Flashpoint. In addition to his appearance within the game itself, I will also be referencing his appearances in the Deceived, Hope, and Return cinematic trailers, the tie-in novel Deceived, and the short story The Third Lesson, with background information from The Old Republic Encyclopedia, the Book Of Sith, and Darth Vader: A 3-D Reconstruction.
I will be analyzing Darth Krayt within the timeframe of the Vector arc, immediately before his betrayal and death at the hands of Darth Wyyrlok. The strengths and limitations of the Vongtech implants Krayt possessed prior to his resurrection are simply more interesting to discuss, and his demonstrated power post-resurrection placed him on the level with Emperor Palpatine, and therefore out of Malgus' league. In addition to his appearance in the Legacy series proper, I will also be referencing the Legacy Handbook, the Legacy Era Campaign Guide, the New Essential Guide To Weapons and Technology, the Essential Guide To The Force, and the Essential Guide To War.
I will not be discussing Krayt's appearance in Fate Of The Jedi: Apocalypse, as his interactions take place exclusively in the Netherworld of the Force as an Astral Projection, where he demonstates multiple abilities that he lacks in the series, particularly Force Drain. It's the same reason why I refuse to discuss Grandmaster Yoda's battle with Darth Sidious in the TCW episode Sacrifice: It is, for all intents and purposes, a dream sequence, and therefore cannot be taken as a definitive or accurate demonstration of either combatants' capabilities.
With all of that out of the way, let us begin:
The treachery of Malgus the Betrayer was motivated by his adherence to classical Sith ideology, where the Dragon of the Sith championed the supremacy of the Order at the total expense of its tradition. Darth Malgus believed in evolution through competition, strength fostered through fair play. As brutal as he was, he was a champion for the rights of others, even if he was only defending their right to be assholes. Darth Krayt believed in order above all else, power magnified by its focus. The purpose of the individual was to serve the collective, and to lay down their lives if need be.
If these two infamous Sith Warlords were to meet in battle, who would win?

General Horse Nah, Vitiate’s One Sith Order has more in common with Fascism, even more than other Sith. Most Sith are in it for themselves, and their regimes are much the same. Krayt has a greater vision. The One Sith Order serve a singular vision through Krayt, not Krayt alone. To the point where Wyyrlok killed Krayt in service to that vision. Much more in line with Fascist ideology, though lacking the us vs. then dynamic common to IRL fascists.

Reborn Krayt would win majority of their fights. I would argue it'd be a stomp. He no longer has any physically disadvantage. He has Dark Transfer to heal any damage taken. Shatterpoint to see every weakness Malgus has. Even if you managed to kill Krayt he'd use Essence Transfer to steal someone's body to survive another day, or use on and Malgus to win the fight.

I know this comment is really old, but Traya probably stomps Malak. Her unique tri-saber form is more than enough to keep Malak pre-cooupied while she widdles him down and eventually destroys him with her vastly superior control of the force, and unique force powers. Malak is not skilled enough with the blade to make up for his massive short comings in the force. The fight would go as follows:
Traya unleashes her barrage of sabers against Malak, who is able to defend himself but isn't able to press Traya in return. After Malak either slips up, panics, or just becomes exhausted - Traya reaches out with the force and one-shots him with either force drain or telekinesis - if the fight were bloodlusted Traya wouldn't bother with her lightsabers and would immediately overwhelm him with her vastly superior force powers.
To put it in perspective, Malak is an overwhelmingly average force user and a half decent lightsaber combatant, he struggled with the weakest version of revan and padawan bastila. He doesn't even register in the top 20 of his era. Traya is arguably in the top 5 or top 3 of that same era for force users, she one-shot several jedi masters in an instant with force drain - all of whom individually Malak would probably struggle against.

Its time baybee! Also, yes we are using Vong Krayt because the match is a lot closer than using Reborn Krayt.
Full thoughts after I watch (duh). But seriously, I have been waiting for you to analyze Darth Krayt.
Btw, here is a copy/paste of my full thoughts.
When I saw your teaser, I assumed that you are using Vong Infested Krayt (or Vector Krayt as you called him). A shame your not using Reborn Krayt, but as you said yourself, Reborn Krayt wouldn't make much of an interesting matchup. But lets begin, Darth Krayt is The Dragon of the Sith, but as Jensarrai1 once said, Darth Krayt is a goddamn beast. Actually, here is what this video should be called.
The Goddamn Beast vs The Betrayer.
7:49 While I agree with your argument concerning TCW, doesn't Krayt have drain in a RPG sheet? Also, I think we should consider this from a force ability standpoint because as astral projections, their force abilities remain. I wouldn't use it for this breakdown, but I think its fair game for Reborn Krayt. Moving on.
8:50 Omg this is brilliant. Darth Malgus is the defender of everyone's right to be an asshole. Thank you Darth Malgus. Without you, I couldn't be the ass I am today.
Physical abilities: 2 geezers, one is a mechanical monstrosity, the other is a biotech monstrosity. That alone is really interesting. Now it makes me want Darth Krayt vs Lord Nyax for some reason.
Malgus's benchmark being Vader is something I agree with, but Vader's refit is more technologically advanced (worth noting, don't know how much that means). Still generally agree that Malgus's physical abilites are on par with Vader though except no lightning weakness, and superior agility (Vader's armor does not affect dexterity).
As for Krayt, realized this entire time I have drastically underestimated his physical abilities. Used to think he was Anya Kuro, old as dirt human whose only stand out trait is coping with injury. Thought his armor augmented his strength, but I was wrong. Krayt is a biotech juggernaut, but his stamina is ass.
I totally agree that Malgus gets the edge on the basis of Krayt's ass stamina but his overall performance levels is comp to Malgus and his Crab Armor provides a more consistent level of def.
Lightsaber abilities: Your breakdown is on Malgus has been more fleshed out than your Malgus vs Malak video. He might be lacking in technical skill, but his varied skill set and massive combat experience more than makes up the diff (most of the time). Hes kind of an inverted Darth Bane. They have a similar skill set, but Malgus is taught by experience with min academic/tech skill while Bane has min combat experience, but his academic knowledge and technical skill more than makes up the diff (again, most of the time). Unfortunately for Malgus, that experience edge is something he doesn't have because Krayt's is even more experienced than Malgus.
Darth Krayt skill in Teras Kasi but lack of integration is due to his lacking stamina. He needs to min physical strain so he shouldn't use the physically intensive Teras Kasi techniques.
I agree that this is a brutal slugging match, Malgus is just experienced and focused enough to contend, but I think Krayt's greater experience and usage of dual blades boosting his performance levels should give him an edge here. But I do see where you are coming from in declaring them equals.
Force abilities: While this is only with Reborn Krayt, I think we should also consider force throw to be on the table. Also consider how Krayt manhandles Cade, his force power should be > than Malgus, Force Malestorm is a dangerous factor, but Krayt can deflect the lightning. Also, Krayt has 100 years to project himself into the force boosting his powers. Malgus has better fluidity but Krayt is more balanced and powerful. Yes Malgus will completely throw himself into the darkside and channel it while Krayt is to controlled for his own good at times, but Krayt has been shown that he can do so when he goes full dark rage berserker.
45:12 I do understand the limitations of Krayt's focus on control preventing him from channeling the darkside to the same level as Malgus, but since Krayt is capable of consume essence, he can feed on Malgus's power to amp himself up. The stronger Malgus gets, the stronger Krayt causing me to believe that Krayt's force power is > than Malgus's. So I heavily disagree with this verdict and think Krayt should get the edge.
Overall: Wasn't to surprised to see you siding with Malgus on this one and loved your breakdown on the thematic of Krayt's desires and how they directly display his physical abilities. At the end of the day, Malgus is just powerful and experienced enough to contend, who can take a crap ton of punishment, and can win by simply outlasting. Krayt could take an early game win, but odds aren't in his favor due to Malgus's ability to tank a massive beating. Though I do disagree with some points of your breakdown (mainly with Krayt), this is still very well presented.
But we all agree that Reborn Krayt slaughters the crap out of Malgus (and most people in gen).

@@robgeorge4581 Krayt beats Kun easy. They're both tricksters in combat, but Krayt also has discipline, whereas Kun just catches people off guard and hopes there's an opening afterwards. Many of Kun's strongest Force powers come from artifacts or rituals, strip him of those and he's at a disadvantage (which tactical opponents like Revan, Obi-Wan, or of course Krayt would likely do). Kun is a powerhouse who loses most of that power if someone sees through him, and Krayt excels at that. It's a good fight, but once he's lost his tricks and tools, he's at best on par with Maul in skill (though Maul is a little better imo). Still impressive, but Reborn Krayt wins.
Revan Reborn can hardly be gauged. That is to say, he's ridiculous on paper, but we don't really know enough about his power. It took a group of the strongest beings in the galaxy to bring him down, but who knows if all that was necessary, maybe you didn't need all that to win. He supposedly has great Force feats but I don't remember him actually killing anyone of those "great beings" with them so it could all be for show, and he lost all of his tactical abilities in his final duel so I'm not sure how his style compares with his past self (his strategy in the end being: "I am Revan, so I'll win", though to be fair this makes sense because it was his dark half talking). And speaking of his past self, a few characters in KOTOR 1 claim Revan is nothing compared to Exar Kun, I don't think that translates well to KOTOR 1 Revan's chances against Krayt.
...I don't know enough about Darth Caedus to say. All I know is that Luke claims he's stronger than Vader, while the internet's general consensus seems to be that he's not.

@@wolfgod6443 Really, I find Krayt vs Kun very tricky at times. Agree that Krayt wins though. Kun's trakta saberstaff is something Krayt has no experience fighting against and while he could adapt and overcome (especially given his >skill, combat experience, and they are both the same fighter type) but it would take a while. Yes Kun's best force abilities are artifacts and rituals, rituals aren't combatively applicable, but he always has a Sith Amulet equipped at all times which gives him a OHKO move in his full power force blast (to be fair, Krayt also has hax in the form of Dark Transfer). To me, Krayt's win is determined by force abilities and his greater variety, skill, and ability to combat almost everything Kun can bring to the table should give him a win, but it would really really close due to how they stackup.
Im aware of KOTOR 1 Revan being weaker than Exar Kun and agree Krayt would give KOTOR 1 Revan a terrible time. The Revan I wanted to look at was Revan as of Shadow of Revan. Its been a while though since I last looked at Revan and at times I agree with you, he is tricky to gauge.
I agree with Luke that Caedus's force power is greater than Vader's, but it really isn't by much. Caedus's main issue is his lacking lightsaber combat skills and tendency to drop the ball. The reason I recommended Caedus is that his application is almost opposite of Krayt's so it would be a interesting compare and contrast. Actually, that's the case with all of these matchup ideas.

I think Darth Malgus is highly underrated because of how he "died." Malgus bested Satele in lightsaber combat twice. • @wolfgod6443
      @wolfgod6443 5 років тому +1

Malgus "died" the same way Anakin did in RotS. Not paying good enough attention, and overconfidence in his abilities. Power and strategy are both important. Malgus had power, not enough strategy. And Star Wars often favors strategy (Revan beating Malak, Obi-Wan beating Anakin, the Rule of Two Sith in general, Clones outsmarting Krell, etc.).

You can see his tactical mind in his dueling ability. In all fairness his death was because he was overwhelmed by a team as opposed to a single opponent.
The rule of two is strategically horrible. The secrecy is what saved the Sith and the Jedi's codependent nature on the Republic separated them from the force and also became their biggest crutch. The initial idea of the rule of two didn't do so well it didn't start to work until the Sith became politicians under Plagueis

    • @wolfgod6443
      @wolfgod6443 5 років тому +1

@@josephmoore5422 Honestly that death always bothered me a bit. It ensured that no one can properly gauge Malgus's strength because a group killed him. So we are unsure which individuals could have. From a stroytelling perspective, it just dodges the question. Even with Nihilus we know exactly which 3 people defeated him and can gauge his skill from there, but Malgus just has the nebulous "a group of jedi and sith defeated him". Still, perhaps it's what makes him fun to analyze. Who can kill him?
I always felt the Rule of Two always existed in a way. Malak and Revan, Exar Kun and Qel-Droma, Vitiate and Malgus, the rest are just pretenders killing each other. They're like Maul in TCW calling themselves sith, that's not how it works. I understand that in the Old Republic, they had an army, but that army killed itself constantly. The dark council overthrew itself, acolytes fought for status, and even Malgus lost to his own would-be allies. Moving away from Vitiate's rule, Malak's dark acolytes were pathetic and weak. They only existed to strip numbers away from the jedi by recruiting force sensitives first. Otherwise they were cannon fodder. Only Malak and Revan (and later Bandon with Revan's turn to the light) were sith lords. Besides, even during the rule of two, Dooku still trained any bodyguards and assassins, and the Galactic Empire employed dozens of Inquisitors, Shadow Guards, and emperor's hands (Jarec, the grand inquisitor, is generally regarded as being on par with most sith lords). It's the same organization from a new perspective. And is far more efficient because it forced the acolytes to be loyal servants, and at worst only betray each other rather than their masters.
Anyways, on a practical side, the Rule of Two works because, as Bane puts it, the Dark side is not fire, it is venom. It is not meant to be shared. With two, they get all the power instead of siphoning it out to a bunch of nobodies. There were less acolytes under Dooku and Sidious, but they were stronger because of it.
Tenebrous (Plaguies's master) was incredibly powerful, and nearly destroyed the jedi in a single stroke. He failed, but we can see how close the sith were to winning from the shadows. Also, Tenebrous had a second apprentice, and unsurprisingly, Plaguies and the other one fought eachother because like the ancient sith, they just want to kill each other and have everything for themselves instead of teaming up to fight the jedi.
Always remember that the rule of two sith were more successful in the end than they were during the Old republic. Sidious finally achieved the goals of the Sith (ruling the galaxy and wiping out the jedi). Revan, Vitiate, Malgus, Traya, all of them failed in their goals.

@@wolfgod6443 I agree Malgus is fun to analyze. He is one of my favorite sith lords because his dueling ability is seemingly unmatched by any ONE person in his era. He even seemingly wrestled power away from the other Sith so he is no slouch as a leader. His force ability is ridiculous he sustains his own life like Vader whild being just as potent if not stronger than before. He becomes one with the force without assistance which is a feat not many have done. His force maelstrom is devastating so i think Malgus is one of those all time great Sith.
I disagree with Banes philosophy and the sense that there were only ever two. There are always powerful people we just tend to focus on the strongest Malak and Revan. The Triumvirate prove that the Darkside does not need only two conduits, especially since they were not the only powerful Sith at the timdle. Even during Banes era tgere were powerful Sith, Bane took power by using decpetive tactics to kill his allies and we didnt see his power skyrocket. Banes philsophy shows its weakness during its inception. As powerful as Darth Zannah was she was not capable of defeating Bane. It took another apprentice and Banes aging to finally cripple him enough for her to beat him. Just like with Exar and Qel-Droma other darksiders are around but they didnt have the teachers that Ulec and Exar had.
Dont forget several times during the rule of 2 era it was almost ended because it sourced itself in one place. Once i think with Darth Millenium (not 100% sure this is the correct Sith Lord) and we even see its failing with Sidious. The problem with the rule of 2 is its strength is it greatest weakness because not every Sith Lord taught their apprentices everything. Tenebrous ability to see the future made Plageuis look like childs play which is what led to his downfall. Plageuis was killed before he could pass down all his knowledge to Sidious. Plaguies never taught Sidious respect for the force which Plaguies learned the hard way by fiddling with midichlorians too much, thus creating the end of the Sith.
Also 2 has alway been a theme in star wars lol A master and an apprentice. This only stopped in Legends post battle of Endor where evwryone vasically was Revan. I love it

      @wolfgod6443 5 років тому +1

@@josephmoore5422 You have to keep in mind the magic of Star Wars though. The rule of two was never in danger because it never could be. It's a binding law of the universe. Particularly with Sidious, saying the powers of the sith are limited with only two is like saying Satan is weak because he's only one being. You can't get rid of the sith like you can't get rid of the devil. The only thing that could stop the sith was the Chosen One, and that came at the price of nearly every other force wielder in the galaxy. Sidious also proved the power of the rule's philosophy by becoming the strongest sith to have ever lived, alongside Vader.
The sith triumvirate was obviously a special case. Nihilus and Sion were wounds in the force, and Nihilus was more of a monster than a sith while Sion was a puppet under Traya. Granted, it is true that Nihilus is regarded as the true sith lord at the time, and even created a holocron.
As for the other sith we don't focus on: Revan, with the help of two others, can destroy the entire sith academy on Korriban (gameplay wise, you can do it before you've regained your former power). Meetra Surik singlehandedly crushed Traya's sith academy, and those sith were named marauders and lords, and some of them dated back to Malak's rule. If we want to get deep into this, just compare Traya, the strongest opponent in the game and final boss, to other sith. Comabtively, Traya barely compares to the likes of Revan or Dooku, so by extension, we can assume Meetra isn't exceptionally more powerful than the likes of Obi-Wan or Plo Koon, yet she still wiped out every sith. Post-endor, Kyle Katarn sums things up perfectly to Desaan, "Most of your shadow troopers are being mopped up by real jedi; one who've been trained to use the force." And I highly doubt the old republic acolytes have much better training. Most of them even complain about how horribly they're treated and how little they learn.
Zannah proved the effectiveness of Bane's rule. Bane was an old republic sith transitioning into a new era, Zannah was the true beginning. She defeated bane through subterfuge and wisdom. She picked the perfect moment to strike and won without question. And the other apprentice didn't intervene in the fight. Not all strength is combative. Plus Zannah was the beginning of this, meaning every sith afterwards was still stronger, and Darth Millennium may have broken off from the rule of two, but at worst he created a new dark side faction anyways, which isn't too different from the old sith fighting against each other. Here's there's less of it.
The Sith combined power with intelligence. The only one before them to do so was Revan, whom Bane idolized. Where others like Malgus, Vitiate, or Nihilus made the galaxy weak, tearing others down to make themselves seem stronger, the rule of two and Revan built the galaxy up, with them as the masters. Malgus is respected by sidious though because Malgus was playing the long game, and would later rebuild what he destroyed, he just never reached that point.
And to address the dark council real quick because they're the go-to example of a group of strong sith, it's basically the same as the Dark Brotherhood Bane opposed. None of the council members were strong enough to defeat the jedi, and at best were on par with a jedi council member (i.e. their parallel). The same weakness was seen in the Dark Brotherhood, reflecting the Jedi only means that you will only become their equal, not their superior. Malgus was a true sith, not some anti-jedi, which is why he succeeded, and he would've been better off without the dark council ever existing.

You wrongly paint Malgus as a brawler instead of a masterful duelist, yet actual source material disagrees with your assessment. The Hero of Tython regards Malgus' form as flawless:
"Malgus's lightsaber form was flawless, but he let his anger and desperation cloud his fighting. He faltered, and I followed through."
Given there was context to Malgus' boss fight that made him desperate that wouldn't exist in a hypothetical fight between Malgus and Krayt unless otherwise specified, which it's not, you too should regard Malgus as the masterful duelist he is, instead of some brawler who is capable of defeating the actually skilled duelists with adaptability and brawn.
Um... AotC Anakin was not a near-equal to Dooku. While he challenged Dooku, he merely challenged him to the point where Dooku had to actually put effort into defeating him, which was more than Dooku expected, and it took him by surprise.
I do however agree with your conclusion that, for the most part, Malgus and Krayt are equals when it comes to their dueling skill.
Agree with verdict, though I wasn't all that surprised given the versions of the characters you chose.
I think pitching prime Malgus vs. Krayt at the BEGINNING of the Legacy comics would have been more fair, as his Vong spores weren't affecting him quite so severely then... or maybe instead you should have had it be Malgus circa Deceived against the version of Krayt you chose.

It is flawless in its use considering the kill streak he wrecked up and this is his style. His style is very simple like Obi wan.

Dulio, no. Please read more carefully. The Hero of Tython specifically stated Malgus' lightsaber FORM was flawless. It's pretty clear he's referring to his technical dueling expertise, not referring to, as you suggest, Malgus' reputation, and essentially saying his fighting style was effective for what it was. -_-
No. His style is NOT like Obi-Wan's. XD
Obi-Wan uses almost predominantly Form II: Soresu, at least circa RotS. In other words, Kenobi is almost entirely defensive/passive/reactive.
Malgus uses MUCH more variety in his fighting style. He uses more of his actual body as a weapon; he integrates far more Force usage in combat; while primarily offensive, he's demonstrated more than adequate defensive prowess; he's clearly adaptable as demonstrated by how he defeated Ven Zallow... I don't know... I have no idea how you see Malgus' fighting style as similar to Obi-Wan's...

Again, I have to disagree. The perfect counterexample to what you're suggesting is the fact that, in the Deceived trailer, Malgus force throws his lightsaber, then force pushes Zallow when he dodges the lightsaber. That's hardly simplicity. It is fair I suppose to consider his fighting style direct. However, Kenobi's is not. Kenobi's is simple and indirect... Malgus' is direct and somewhere between simple and complex.

Coming out on a Friday night, making it an even better surprise.
It's easy to see why you chose this, and is a little ambitious to compare there characters and do justice to them both. I'm impressed.
You emphasis on their backgrounds, their experiences with loss and success, participation in certain Wars, and their roles as Emperors was perfect. Especially by exploring their philosophies. A very intriguing topic, plus highly original and truly brilliant place to begin.
Your summary of their physical capabilities is near-perfect. Not only for it's content, but for it's focused assessments, to-the-point descriptions, and thematic pacing. You explore what is relevant to the fight and how each factor matches against the other's. Building a complete picture that is easy to follow and envision for the audience. It's like a masterful story plot. Very impressive, and a testament to the development in you video quality.
Your description of Darth Malgus is always deeply intriguing to watch; as he was the uptime example of an archetypal Sith finding Combat transcendence. The way he defines many limitations of Lightsaber Forms also shows just how individual and relative fighting can be. And what is the most unique factor about him is your summary. Under duress, he will increase his mental clarity and control, using creativity rather than more power. THE most distinguishing factor between him and Anakin Skywalker/ Pre-suited Darth Vader. Yet he accomplish this without dealing down his emotions, a truly amazing feat.
Your argument was also very complete, not only by identifying his limitations and weakness but also exploring WHY and HOW they are present and effect him.
Darth Kryat's description was also impressive. He is a very dangerous duelist, but lacks the flamboyant displays that many similar fighters in his league have shown. His technique is moderate, and epitomizes the heights of Niman through this trait. Your description of how multi-angular, layered and complex his offence was further displayed this, borrowing technical moves characteristic of separate forms all tied together: aggressive ferocity (Juyo), dynamic full body-movement (Ataru) broad slashes to hit multiple opponents (Shii-Cho), Deliberate subversion and precision (Makashi), strong and technical counters (Shien). Even using two-handed power-blows for a single blade reminiscent of Djem So.
While his defence used the same moves, leaning for a layer used of Shien technical deflections, Makashi parries. Plus, it avoided the absolute defence of Soresu, which would be very counter-productive given the deficiencies for physical longevity.
A method layered further with Force-Based attacks, physical combat, and more. All employed decisively and deliberately; opposed to a reactionary mindset like Anakin Skywalker's or Yoda's.
And you further balanced this description by exploring his weakness, both technical and personal.
For their comparison, your starting was again was very well written and to-the-point. Instead of comparing them side-by-side, your choice to establish and contextualize Krayt's accomplishment and track record against Malgus' shed new light on the former.
I especially liked one particular phrase you made: "Niman, Jar Kai, and Teras'Kasi, were each comprehensive and specialist techniques, with their own offensive and defensive practices. Which Kryat layered on top of each other." 34:15-34:27. This use of a layered fighting-style is what is a deciding factor between different fighters, especially in your post-mortem analysis videos. And show just how masterful, developed and dangerous certain fighters are. Particularly separating between your Tier 3 and Tier 2 categories.
I agree with many of you assessments about them, but not all of them. I believe that Darth Malgus has greater consistency under duress, and will enter a defensive-counter roll with more composure. His skillset, orientation and magnitude is enough fight evenly with Darth Kryat. While it would not, I repeat NOT, be deliberate; Malgus could make Kryat frustrated over time or taunt him into a mistake, then become creative and opportunistic to pierce through his guard. A trademark Kenobi-esq win, but out of opportunism and circumstances rather than intentional strategy.
From how Kryat could be compromised by the right taunts and Malgus' own wide-spread force sense, I do believe he could aggravate the Dragon by sensing his pain and internal weakness. While on the flip side, Malgus literally purged himself of personal weakness by killing Elena Daru and we highly focused yet personally detached after her death. Psychological Warfare against him would be highly fruitless, but I hesitate to say impossible.
Your examination fo their Force powers continue make this a very impressive video. Exploring the fundamentals and origins of each individual's capabilities, establish their skills, and going greater depth by presenting the intentions and results of each power they had. You didn't ignore the praises they gained from other Sith and Jedi, but used it as a supplement rather than as a starter. Which to me was a good choice, building them up forth ground rather than showing a mould and filling-in the gaps.
This description of Darth Malgu's capabilities were actually more impressive than what I have watched before from anyone else. While Darth Kryat's was very detail but not filled with tangents. You masterfully present them to-the-point without sacrificing details.
I was especially impressed with how you noted Kryat used direct physical contact to bypass force-defences. And how thorough you presented him as different from Malgus, epitomized by their different capacities for Healing Arts. The biggest difference between them both, however, is very easy to see in this video. One, Jedi with an unorthodox career turning to the founding of the Sith and achieving greater power, knowledge and skill through his life. The other, a conventionally trained Sith molded through war, who built himself for the battlefield but disparaged the culture and traditions with the same pragmatism.
The epitome who worshiped the darkside. The maverick who was dedicated to the order. Which can also describe their preferences and applications of the Force.
You also have great coimpletionism by show the limits each has against the other. And how those short-comings, along with being present, separate them. It was surprising for you to give Maglus to edge as a Force-wielder. And while Kryat is more diverse and accumulative Sith, your argument for a controlling generalist against a dedicated specialist is a strong one.
I was impressed with your description of how fragmented Darth Kryat is as a whole. It's a stark difference to the description you, Evanova, and GreyJedi use for Plo Koon: an accumulative character with skill and power adding up to something greater than the sum of it's parts. Between Plo Koon's skills are part of a whole, while Kryat's part appears fit together but are individual and minority complimentary.
Another fantastic video; and another contender for the place of Your Best Made.

11:41 Yeah's he's definitely had his limbs reinforced.
24:58 Freeform I could see. He's more of a mixer.
25:45 Interesting concept that I've been thinking of for years.
27:15 Good assessment of Malgus. I agree that his formula can work both ways.
36:11 I'd say it comes down to Malgus being used to fighting opponents better then him.

@@benerdick_cumberbiatch well comparatively, Savage Oppress generally thrashed her, and he embarrassed Savage on several occasions. She was never able to do much but match Obi-wan while Maul is his quintessential rival. He very briefly matched Sidious. She can't hang with Dooku for more than a moment, even with help in some cases, whereas Maul can capture (yes I know the story behind that, but it's all the same to me). I don't think for a second Anakin would manhandle Maul the way he did Ventress. In fact, I think it could very likely be a win for Maul in the right circumstances. Stryfe could match Vector Cade in TK. Cade when he hadn't used the force for years and was hopped up on Death Sticks could throw starships. And in Vector Cade has massively grown in power.

I believe his 4th style should be Ataru, using the spins, jumps, focus on one-on-one and integration of physical combat in his arsenal and leaving out the intricate swordplay and using instead Shii-Cho for his simplicity to guide his lightsaber and rounding up a versatile style

In Legends lore a Lightsaber creates very strong centripetal force; essentially trying to rotate itself out of the wielders hand at any given time. • @geoffreyedgson7875
      @geoffreyedgson7875 6 років тому +3

I think one of those those might be a little too easy to call, but for deep reasons.
Darth Bane was powerful, but in an ideal world he would never fight a Jedi after destroying the Brotherhood of Darkness. He wanted the Sith and himself to remain hiding, cultivating and progressing their order, and only ever face threatening combat between Master and Apprentice.
But the flip side, Exar Kun catapulted himself into wars after becoming a Sith, whether against the Krath Cult or the entire Jedi Order and Republic immediately after meeting Ulic Qel-Drome. He invested heavily in combative powers and weapons, arrogantly driven to outperform every Jedi who existed and revelling in personal combat.
The fact that Bane is such combative powerhouse is a testament to his preparation, dedication and investment in himself and his new order. But Kun prepared to fight consulate masters like Bane, had greater offensive options and might against Bane, and was a special kind of "careless" fighter.
Exar Kun did not care how he won, so long as he did. Depth, perfection and refinement mattered far less than immediate results. He was a prodigy who took shortcuts. While Darth Bane was a consummate master of the Darkside, capable of either using or having depthful knowledge of every branch of the Darkside that existed. Kun took shortcuts for greater personal power, while Bane accumulated more knowledge to pass on to later generations and improve the order as a whole.
Kun reviled in combat, prioritizing it first and foremost. While Bane placed combat secondary after the development of his order. Their legacies show this difference, but Exar Kun was the more dangerous fighter than Bane, and in my opinion the most likely to win.
While Revan Reborn is a closer contest. And a very relative case. Especially Dark Lord Revan against Kryat at the time of his ascension not Emperor. And even more tricky with Revan Reborn against Kryat Reborn.
The titles of both would make the comparison very thematic. But the relativeness other repertoire's, their power, their limitations, their track-records and more make it very difficult to assess.

Honestly I don’t like post resurrection Krayt because of the lack of limitations. Luke Skywalker imo being the only exception because he had EARNED it all. Every battle, lesson, loss, and win came together in harmony. He was grandmaster BECAUSE he did damn near everything to make it possible. Krayt got resurrected without his parasite, essentially making him super powerful without earning it, were he to purge it himself or go under the knife, I’d accept his power increase and think it was perfect. He essentially got his “all powerful” form through deeds of others but is treated as if he deserves it. Even Palpatine’s clone wasn’t as perfect to the same degree as Krayt is. It also undercuts his whole character, carving his own path and Sith order only to become another typical Sith. All his motivations and reasonings get thrown out the window because he is no longer the man that built his empire. Now a hypocrite and almost not noteworthy leader of the Sith. Everything that made him special now gone.

Great video as always. It would probably have to be a short since there's not much info on him, but I think it would be cool to see Lord Praven featured in one of these.

A good review, but the verdict was incorrect. Darth krayt should be understood as a final Sithari, conquering death and destroying fellow sith. Krayt and Cade Skywalker complete the great circle by their roles with xoxxan, sorzus syn, karness murr, and Ajanta pall, who may be seen somewhat like the four horsemen of apocalypse, although Ajanta returned to the light. Regardless, greater understanding of the force belongs to Krayt. That alone gives him victory over malgus, much like Marka Ragnos defeated all enemies with sorcery and knowledge of the force, never once drawing his lightsaber. What made this match most interesting, was its potential to fit in to the existing universe ( being that malgus was last seen frozen in carbonite, handed over to Vitiate's new incarnation as Valkorian.) Excellent video but an unjust verdict, I do declare a mistrial.

Makes me wonder how Post Resurrection Malgus in the new DLC would match up against Post Resurrection Krayt.

Rewatching this video again (because why not) and I can’t help but notice Krayt wielding one of his lightsabers in the reverse grip while duelling Cade Skywalker or when fighting the Imperial Knights, suggests that Darth Krayt would be proficient with a saberstaff. Plus given his childhood and brief time as an adult amongst the Tusken Raiders, his use of the gaderfii would have provided him with familiarity with a staff like weapon.
I suppose my question is: why didn’t Darth Krayt ever make use of a saberstaff? But one who is the inverse of someone such as Kas’im. Where Kas’im used his saberstaff almost exclusively and only separated the hilts on occasion, Krayt would be more of an Asajj Ventress and fought with separate hilts while connecting the hilts to form a staff weapon as a reserved tactic.

I wonder now if Reborn Malgus VS Reborn Krayt could be done, given Malgus' return in the latest SWTOR expansion.

A video on Lana Beniko vs Assaj Ventress would be nice or something on the
    Hero of Tython.
