End of an Era!

- This is a video that I never wanted to make. Billy has decided to step down as my musical director. Although is breaks my heart to lose him "on the road" I completely understand the reasons. A year and a half away from traveling has made all of us take a hard look at our priorities. This video is long, but at the same time, not nearly long enough to pay tribute to our musical years together, our friendship and my love and respect for him. Billy, I know I will never stop missing you behind the piano - the magical music you made the piano sing, and the golden smile shining over the top of it. This isn't goodbye, just see you around!
Besides being a great singer,Linda eder is such a genuine and candid human being.

As a pianist myself - that's the first thing I notice on a stage, who is at the keys. I loved Billy - loved his energy and playing and yes, that smile. Glad to have seen you a few times with him. Will be seeing you again in a few days and will be sad that he isn't there. But SO glad that you're out there playing again - we missed ya.

WOW, I am so very sorry to hear Billy is stepping down. He was the happiest guy to watch playing his piano. Smiling, laughing and rocking to the beat and I watched his hairline and sideburns change over the years. So much fun to watch and I thoroughly enjoyed him. I know this is a big loss for you, Linda. Your voice has seen me through some tragic years in my life. It was always a safe harbor for me to visit. If you decide to retire one day I will always have your music. It fills my home with peace and joy. Such wonderful contribution to the world. You can feel certain of that.
Linda, you are my favorite singer in the world. So glad you had the opportunity to meet and have a great musical director in Billy. Have followed your career since Star Search. Love everything you do…please DON’T retire anytime soon.
What a beautiful tribute to an amazing talent! The two of you are magic together on that stage and I will miss that dearly! I laughed and cried right along with you while watching this video, especially when I heard the audience finish singing over the rainbow. It was such a beautiful and touching moment. Thank you for your honesty and candid view on your life. It helps to know we have all changed in many ways through this. I also hope that when you are able to get more shows in your schedule that you will be visiting Cleveland. I have never missed a show.
Watching you for many years both in person and on youtube and in addition to your incredible talent, I really appreciate your humanity and emotional honesty. Most performers want to project a certain facade but you are also willing to strip that away and let us know your fears, worries and affections just like the rest of us. Linda, I first saw you in Plano, Texas at a Beauti-Control convention back in the late 1980's and absolutely fell in love with your voice. I have to say my favorite song is still Vienna... that brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. What I would give to hear you sing that in person again!

Well now I'm crying. Wonderful to see the old and new footage. So appropriate to close this very long chapter. It's not by any means the end of the story though. Looking forward to many years with a change but you'll find someone to fill those very big shoes and carry on and only you can do. I'll be there to cheer you on!

Thank you Linda for making this video....you are right...we will absolutely miss Billy Jay Stein! So much in here, but I will add a couple of things. Firstly dear Linda...totally understand your reaction to Billy's email, because this is the second video wherein you have used the R-Word, which inspires the very same reaction....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I have been to about 35 concerts so far, and really I go because I just don't want to miss out on anything...my favorite seat in the house is always front row in front of Billy Jay Stein on The Steinway! Billy, I leave you with one thought...Neosporin and your toothbrush! Fontana, CA was one of my favorite concerts ever (Billy mistook the Neosporin for his toothpaste right before the show.) Linda couldn't stop giggling, we had tipsy party girls at the front table, Linda sang her flying song which I love...that whole night was just a party! Thank you for all the grins at the Steinway (thanks Linda for that Waiting for the Fall, and the Billy laughing at the computer)! And for all the music you made together! And yes, "I Want More"!

The Other Side of Me album is my partners favorite album of yours. She took it out of my collection of your albums and claimed it for herself. You signed it for her at one of your concerts. On Wednesday 7/28/21 she had her last chemotherapy treatment, first thing she did when we got in the car was put your cd in. We listened to Make Today Beautiful ❤️ You have been part of her healing journey. Thank you!🌻

Thoughts on the possibility of Linda retiring. First of all, she has worked nearly non-stop for 41 years! She has more than paid her dues. Secondly, Linda has indicated she would like to cut back on travelling. That is not retirment. It's an adjustment. I predict she will continue to engage in some form of art for at least the next 20 years. It's her creative destiny. I also predict her devoted fans will continue to support her in whatever pursuits she embraces.

One thing I’ve learned since I got sober is that there is no such thing as coincidence. I just finished watching your “farewell” to Billy video from the hospital where I’m getting my last chemotherapy treatment. Good news the chemo shrunk the grapefruit size tumors in my abdomen! I really wanted go to Vinegar Hill to see your concert. It was going to be my 10 year sober gift to myself as I’m still collecting those chips in my pocket. But with my immune system being compromised from the chemo I didn’t think it would be a very good idea. It would have been very special seeing you and Billy together one last time. I hoping that I will get to your concert in Del Ray on Valentines Day as I will be visiting friends then. And perhaps I might hear you sing “I’m in love for the last time”
This is the second time, living through such a momentous change in your career, shifting, growing, change. I can say that the first time, you moved on to work with a wonderful man that brought out direction and strength in you that his predecessor didn't. That's not a negative, that's just the differences is people. And I think that's awesome. Each talent that enters your life finds a new facet of the diamond that is your talent. That's the wonderful. But yes, it will be a new world of stage without Billy.
Retire What have you lost your mine! We will are going to miss Billy there is a reason this man with such a hugely successful business has stood by you, because he believes in your talent. Yes you ready are that good. He believes in you it’s time for your next step in life. What ever that maybe. We have enjoyed so many more amazing performances that I can count. We Love Billy!
