I,m just finding out about the tams. I never knew who was who. , but now I know Joe , his brother, Charles, and their sons. I,m glad to know the tams are still performing. Great voices. I love the tams.

I was driving down I-26 in Charleston S.C. And this giantic greyhound blew past me! About 90 95 MPH! Blew my car so hard I panicked. I WAS PISSED! Just back from vietnam, and ready to fuck something up! “”Exit beach citis” and I followed it down to the folly beach area. They had beach music back there, and all the top bands would go down there and party for the college kids! The more I follow this bus with Georgia license plate the more pissed off I got! Finally it turned into a one-way non-paved trail right up to a club on the beach. I thought to myself what in the hell is this big ass greyhound bus doing at one of these college dives? They pulled in and as soon as the door open about 30 or maybe like 15 or so black dudes came bailing out! Some of them went directly into the club. The others were opening the size of the bus and removing equipment they had drums guitar, sound, equipment, amplifier, etc. so I finally see this white guy wearing a vest with a greyhound name tag and some longevity pens. He kept the bus running, and I went over to him and ask him what the fuck he was doing he knew I was not playing! He said this was a band out of Atlanta and they just had a number one record break while they were on this tour. And they needed to get into the club and get set up so they would be able to do two shows that night for a bonus from the club manager. I never seen so many Black people in my life! You could have made a Tarzan movie! We were interrupted by a Pabst blue ribbon beer driver, who had 5000 cases he needed to unload in that very spot. There is not enough room in that shack for 500 cases! So I asked the driver who were all the Negroes and what is the name of their band? Is it James Brown by any chance he said hell no look up on top of the bus where the destinations sign goes. I looked up there, and it said “The Tams” That’s funny because they have been playing Tam’s music all afternoon that I was in Charleston now I understand why I just told this guy to be careful because there’s a lot of us out there. I don’t want to live and he ain’t shit for driving a bus I made sure he was afraid before I left him. About that time a station wagon pulls in and all over the side of it it said “Doug Clark” the hot nuts. Another five or six Negroes! I had to get out of there quick! So that’s how I have my encounter with his band that I have loved for the past 60 yers! after that ,damn near getting killed by their bus.
Joe would pass away 3 years after this concert. Joe was a great singer. RIP Joe
