Hey there. I just joined a certain railway company in the engineering department and have been deep in the woods a few times already. Been thinking of this channel a lot more frequently since I started working there.
What you say about poison ivy is true, and I have no argument for it except that the opposite is what happened to me. I worked in an apple orchard for 19 years, from 1987-2006. Every year for the first 10 years or so I got poison ivy rash. The first year was the worst, with incredible amounts of oozing and grossness. But every year after that the rash was a little less severe. And after those 10 years or so, the rash never came back, even to this day. I have come in contact with poison ivy many times since then, with no rash whatsoever. Of course now that I say that, it will probably happen.
Actually properly worn chest waders with a good synch belt are perfectly safe and won’t flood. I do a lot of ocean fishing in fairly rough waters in inlets with very strong current. I’ve experimented a lot with different waders. A very strong thick belt that can synch closed will prevent all of the water from entering the leg portion of the waders. I’ve been fully submerged and only got wet on my upper torso
You're right about the poison ivy; my dad didn't get it for years, and he was active in Boy Scouts and other outdoor things. Then when he was 40, he was helping the guys that rented our barn and pastures to clean out a fence row, and boy did he get it! Up between his fingers and under his watchband. He was miserable for quite some time and had to be very careful from then on. One of the first things my parents taught me was "Leaves three, let it be! Berries white, take flight".
😅 I also became allergic after I moved to a rural town. First 10 years never had issues, last 10.. boy it’s gotten way worse. It takes almost a month for me to fully get rid of it most the time. Recently moved to a new house.. no sign of it here, so thankfully I don’t have to weed eat any while clearing fire break space away from house.
