      Italians are the Kings of scamming tourists in restaurants. Honestly, I can't understand why tourists would order something in the first place without knowing what they are expected to pay. When I was in Athens every menu had the price next to the food so I was impressed. Italy though......awful place.

      it's not that. they fools u. the waiter gives you Menu with low prices. than someone else will give you an invoice with high amount and force you to pay it.
      they are proper criminals. in my case 2 girls sat beside us and ordered drinks, and i asked to step out. so the guy told me to pay for the girl which sat next to me was like 1300 TL. but i run out ended up not even paying for my drink.

    That's nothing: In my younger days, I once went to nightclub in Paris, and had a tiny espresso. When I refused to pay the 70'000 francs, I was seized and sold into slavery in Northern Africa. After 23 years in the desert, I managed to escape. Now you try to tell that to the youth of Magaluf, and they won't believe you.

      If you ask how much the drinks cost, and pay right there right then, no bills or anything, chances are smaller to get ripped off. Just be smart and don't do stupid things. There are plenty of nice places where you can have a good time, but with a target painted on your back, there will always be individuals who will try. Especially in countries with unreliable law enforcement, it is difficult to get yourself out of trouble once you're in it.

    • @alexandercrush
      @alexandercrush 6 років тому +9

      They target the scared people. Even if they did say it costs 100. They can say later it was 10,000 and you just misheard because you are tourist.

      Sad reality is that this is true for the municipalities and governments, but individual merchants are not smart enough to have that foresight or just don't care. Touristic places also have scammers.
      I would still advise people to learn about common scams used in places they are going to visit and be prepared.

    My question is: who the hell goes into a club or even worse, nightclub, with a stranger he met on the street?? You are alone, enjoy your time alone, go to a club alone and buy drinks for yourself. Simple as that. Someone will always try to rip off fools. Or maybe it's just my Eastern European sense of conservation and realistic-life-expectations-management system.

      i know this comment is old as fuck, but I think it would be amazing to meet a friendly foreign stranger who is local and could show you around and may also be interested in your culture. This happens in any city where there's alot of tourists. I had a French friend who got into the exact same situation in Istanbul, but that was like 20 years ago. I can't believe this still works. He was lured into the club by a friendly "guide" who promised to invite him to a beer. The guide goes to the loo and never comes back and then the girls show up. Then he gets a bill for the equivalent of 700 dollars. He only has 500, so they let him off with a warning. My friend said the girls were both Russian and one of them looked like she was always on the verge of tears. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these women are trafficked. The cops didn't take him seriously at all. I have been approached here in Paris by women, often pretty Eastern European girls, who try to get me to go into clubs and have drinks with them. It's usually on a Friday or Saturday night in touristy areas and late at night when alot of men are drunk and don't have their whits about them. I'm pretty sure it's the same sort of scam going on, just with a different lure. I always just tell them I like men; they never know how to respond to that one ;))

    • @gordonquick6830
      @gordonquick6830 Рік тому

      The police get a cut. That's why they don't care. They probably showed up to tacitly intimidate the guy into paying his "debt." But the thing is, if they over-charge you for beer, they are attempting to rob you, so if you are foolish enough to get this far in the scam, you need to stand your ground and threaten them right back with exposure, which is what they fear. It's best to NEVER let it get as far as them buying anything. A few nights ago, I played along until the waiter came over with a big bottle, then I said adios and bailed. They couldn't do anything because I had not taken a sip.

    Unfortunately this happened to me! so here's what happened ! i was walking to my hotel and a pretty young man showed up from nowhere and tried to start a conversation with me, i told him that am going to my hotel but before that am getting some food on the way, he told me that he knows a pretty good restaurant, i thought that i could walk with him since the street was crowded and it is safe so far, then we got to the restaurant and i ate there while he is with me chatting about life and stuff, i felt ok with him, he told me he is an engineer from Cyprus and he is alone in the Istanbul, when i finished eating he offered a beer in a near bar and since he spent 2 hours with me i thought its ok to have some beers with a guy who is alone like me, so we went to the bar and turns out it was something more like a dance club, when we entered he went to a table with 2 beautiful girls sitting sitting on it, so we joined them and there when i started to get nervous and suspicious! right when we sat they served us 4 drinks and some fruits, then i told them am tired and am going to my hotel, he was insisting on me to stay and spend more time, but he didn't succeed in that, so when i got off the table and was heading to the exit a man came to me and told me that i have to pay the check first and the thing is (computerized) i told him that i didn't order anything nor didn't i ate what you immediately served on the table, he got a bit aggressive and walked me to the cashier ! the check was 800 TL for cups of beer and 1 plate of fruits, that was the wtf moment! then i told them that i don't even have that in cash! then they called the guy who is supposed to be my friend and told him that your friend (me) doesn't wanna pay, then we decided to split the check, i gave them 400TL and got out, sorry for writing a long comment but i felt like the details should be mentioned, so any one can learn from my huge mistake, that was when i first time be in Istanbul, i went a second time but they couldn't get me.

    Hahaha... This is exactly what happened to me a couple years ago. Walking alone at night in Istanbul I was approached by a young lad who invited me to joim him at a famous club for some fun. He even called up two girls to join us. The club looked very similar to the one in the video. Tables, tableservice and a dancefloor in the centre. My new friend ordered food and drinks for the table. There was no menu to be seen. The girls came and we ate drank and danced. The manager and staff were very friendly, even applauding when I and the girl I met that night were the only ones dancing. Anyhow soon enough the bill came at we were to pay 3000 Euros. The manager took us seperately and eventually I was able to make a deal to get a reduced bill. I too ended up having to walk to an ATM escorted by a huge bouncer.

    I got taken to a brothel/bar like this by a Turkish ´friend who was apparently a racehorse trainer and seemed very respectable. We had 2 beers each and the 2 x girls that joined us had orange juices only and our bill came to almost $2000 of Turkish Lira. The Turkish ´friend´put his ´half´of the money on the table I REFUSED to pay my half as realised how large the bill was. He asked what I was going to do. I demanded to see the Manager so got taken to a room with 6 bouncer types and a small rat-like guy who was apparently the manager. They were demanding I used my credit cards. They could see the cards when I was showing them I had no money to cover the bill. Told them they would have to stab me (was feeling very angry and crazy) if they wanted my credit cards.. Ended up in the room for maybe 2 hours the guy who took me got bored and left. I was on my own so was a scary experience but I would NEVER bow down to scammers like this. I ended up slapping my head shouting ´so you think I'm a rich crazy English man´? I threw about $40 or $50 worth of Lira down on the table and stormed past the bouncers. I was so sure I was going to get jumped there or in the alley on the way back to my hotel but luckily I got back safely... Was one of the scariest travel experiences I have had to endure. But I do look back proud of myself for not giving in to them.

    A similar thing happened to my best friends dad in Japan in the 80s, he was alone in a bar having a beer and an attractive woman came over, sat next to him and a minute later a bottle of champagne with two glasses arrived at the table. He explained to the waiter he didn't order it and didn't want it but just got handed a bill for a ridiculous amount of money and demanded he paid. When he continued to refuse he was dragged out back by two security guards and beaten the shit out of.

    So rule number one, always ask for menu to see prices with your own eyes, if no menu, ask about cost firstly. Stick to this rule at all times. Don't bring more than $100 to those bars, keep your money secured in debit cards, etc. Don't carry with you many credit, debit cards, use only one with small amount of money in the account.

      Most Turks descend from Gypsy men and Tellak boys who made muta pleasure-marriages with Fatamid Shiyat sect girls, then Caliph Umar forced them to convert to Sunni and they secretly practiced Judaism and Freemasonry Occult as a protest against Umar, then married their cousins for many generations.

      My dear butthurt Greek friend.
      You are inclined to blame Turks as well but you are not the one living in Turkey and you have no fucking idea of cultural stuff going on here. Kurds had a feodal living system for long even close to end of 20th century, which government had to put much effort to cease but which was confronted by them anyway there is a certain cultural difference which you have no fucking idea about. Please make up your ideas with your brain because your butt is hurt and I dont want to hear shit.

    I think he should have undercover security at all times, That way instead of asking for his change at the ATM the guy pretending to be drunk could have sucker punched him.. Seen this guy in a few scams where he really needed security, Saying that though.. He probably could have ran off anyway.

    I was cheated 1000 lira tonight in the same way. I am very very very upset. Don't come with anyone to a bar for drinking even though he say he would pay for you especially in a single travel.

    I hear that's a common scam charging crazy high prices for a drink in Istanbul, Turkey.. My brother spent a few days in Istanbul and mentioned he got cheated regularly.

    This sort of thing is unheard of in nordic countries like Sweden, Norway, Denmark etc. Tourists are safe here. The only scammers we have are foreigners.

    End up in a darkroom, a place you've never been before? Common sense tells me to get ready to stand up and punch back real hard! This buy being English, he knows the phrase: "You've been bent over mate!" A-he-he-he!
    Hey, here's a thought: don't be such a wimp, and cave into the scammers demands! Walk away with an attitude!
