It’s a simple rule of travel that anyone who takes too much interest in you is probably gonna try something. The honest people are too busy working and getting on with their lives. Doesn’t mean you have to avoid everyone, but instantly, instantly, you should raise your level of suspicion.
Nah depends where you go, some countries people are just interested in you because they get fuck all tourists
@@okok72277 I have been to countries where the tourists are rare and the locals are curious. That’s fine. What I am talking about is the need to raise your level of suspicion. You don’t need to accuse anyone or avoid anyone. There might be a bunch of people helping or watching or pointing you in the right direction. But when someone emerges from the crowd, speaks your language (and probably half a dozen languages, not that there’s anything wrong with that!) and wants to slide smoothly into your daily activities, just be aware. This person has targeted you. Your first reaction is to be friendly and trustworthy. Be that way, but not blindly.
Wise advise .

When you see someone with a real paper map with the technology we have now and doesn't look like Dora, it's a scammer.

Horrible take. Most tourists actually do use paper maps considering that international data costs are astronomical and you don’t want to be dependent on accessing wifi in order to do something as simple as access a bus map.
@Mars🚀 If you think that is untrue you have clearly never visited a popular tourist location; specifically one that is popular among those of a foreign nation.
@Mars🚀 it is true lmao. I was using a paper map when i went to italy because the internet was so slow lol
anyone who is a complete stranger desperately wanting to talk to you that bad for more than 30 seconds on the street is a scammer. Like i know there's plenty of idiots out there who probably would fall for this, but are they just completely unaware of how suspicious they look? I mean jesus christ.

A tourist wearing a business suit that’s def the giveaway right there. I’ve traveled all over the world and I’ve only worn a suit for two weddings one in London and one in Cebu other than that I wore my everyday clothes when sight seeing. So this man in the suit is defiantly up to something fishy, never trust a stranger taking too much interest in you and asking too many questions like where you’re from, how’d you get here, where you’re staying, where you’re planning to go next etc. I’ve had multiple scammers try to corner me while abroad but to no luck on their side I’d just keep walking and show little to no attention to them.
Can you clarify the exact nature of the scam that was about to go down in this video? It wasn't clear to me and I saw at least one other comment from someone who also couldn't figure it out.
@@moneyguy2008 As you can see, the fake police sent away the "tourist" very quickly after the "control". Also he mentioned lastly that he would have trouble with the 'big police' if he didn't comply...
I speak 6-7 languages conversationally. I know very basic greetings and phrases in several other languages as well. So when I met a pair of guys who told me they were Southern Italian (clearly looked Romanian or Bulgarian…), I instantly greeted them with “Ciao amico, piacere, come stai?” They could not look more helpless. They uttered a pitiful ciao in response and I knew from that moment these guys were amateurs.

If you are a tourist, this is my advice:
1. Tell the police in civilian clothes, that you are a tourist and do not know about police procedures or how IDs look like.
2. Tell them, you call 911 to check their names on the ID if they are real.
3. Then call 911 and check it (at least 911 can tell you if there are any unmarked police units in the area and send uniformed support in case).
Normal police would understand your worries. Criminals would run or harass you.
Of course, this only works in stable countries. In Mexico, you put a 20 or 50 $ bill in your passport and do not care if it is the real police or some armed gang member.
@@kleinerfeigling8277 911 won't net you anything in London, it's 999 in the UK and 112 internationally
He’s not from Italy, he’s from romania. There are many Romanians that also live in Italy as gyspies and scammers so I’m assuming he’s lived there for a couple years.
Also we were looking for building work at our home and we found a Romanian guy that was posing as an Italian guy. We found out he was Romania from his WhatsApp status LOL and that idiot wanted us to pay 40% up front and said he will leave his tools at our home. He was potentially looking at a £1400 upfront payment and thought leaving a few paintbrushes and half empty paint cans would suffice. LOL
Often times, people who hold large maps out in front of you, looking and pointing around to distract you, are usually pickpockets. In this day and age with mobile phones and Google maps, nobody needs directions. I had PR in Singapore for 5 years, wonderful wonderful place... and I’m sorry that you guys experienced these scammers.
I've not seen a cop in public for years and I live here
Almost the same thing happened to me earlier at Gosfield Street - 5min away from Oxford Street.
Guy asking for directions, then a "police officer" came - I shoved the "police officer" out of my way and walked away
Hey - I was scammed in London too - a guy told all the locals wear the Fuzzy Union Jack top hats - I bought one to blend in and never saw anyone else wearing one
The same "policeman" and same "tourist" approached me and my husband last year at Bayswater(night time) asking for direction to Oxford when we on our way back to our accommodation. The policeman said that the "tourist" maybe selling drugs and want to check our bag. Please be alert and be extra careful. We are very lucky they did not harm us or stole anything from us. If they ever stop you anywhere near Bayswater please walk away.
This means they got out of jail doing the same thing again lol :(
You know you're screwed when the British police tells you "You don't to bee worree" with a nice Slavic accent.
That happens everywhere. A while ago i saw near the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam 2 guys posing as undercover cops. They stopped a group of 5 Chinese tourists, flashed some fake ID and demanded to see their passports and wallets. They said they were looking for counterfeit money. When they saw i was watching them they got pissed and told me to fuck off. When i replied in Dutch they had no clue what i was saying. They sounded East European. I called the police who had a team of undercover cops in the neighbourhood. (A pickpocket team) They were there in 5 minutes and caught the scumbags.

A Romanian thief who impersonated a police officer to prey on tourists has been jailed for 10 months.
Chirica Dragnea, 52, was sentenced on Friday at the Old Bailey for this part in an organised gang that engineered an elaborate scheme for conning visitors to the City of London, the Square Mile's police force said. City of London Police said Dragnea, along with an accomplice, would pose as a tourist and a police officer to lull their victims into a false sense of security.
The ruse involved the fake tourist asking an unsuspecting member of the public for directions on a map, providing an opportunity for the impersonated police officer to intervene, the force said.
The fake officer would then take advantage of the real tourist's unfamiliarity with British police procedures to begin searching them for counterfeit money. During the search, the crooks took items including cash, identity cards and bank cards, and sometimes even demanded the victim's bank card pin. Police said Dragnea was arrested last year by genuine officers after being found in possession of an "official-looking" ID card in a black flip wallet.
He was dressed smartly, and with an accomplice dressed like a tourist with a fake camera around his neck.
Wooow I love the British accent of the police!
And the way they were sneaking around whilst ahead of them was already very weird.

Here's how it should be... caught scamming people in England when you're from another Country, you're sent home on the next flight and banned from the Country permanently. Simple as that. Nobody should be allowed to come to England, walk the streets and prey on the public and other tourists. Not saying its okay for English to do it..but visiting another Country is a privilege not a right, and should be a privilege you don't get to enjoy anymore when you abuse it.
I wonder 80% Europe is classified as a developed country. But, the people here really have to be careful and especially in Paris I swear.
