Attempted scam in an Istanbul bar in 1980... My US Navy shipmate and I were taken by a cabbie to a bar on a side street. We each ordered a beer, and immediately two ladies from Sri Lanka were ushered to our table. The waiter popped a cork on some wine an we owed $60 bucks. We did not invite the girls to sit down! An argument ensued, and it was apparent we were outnumbered. My buddy left to go "get more money", leaving me as a hostage. An hour later he returned... with the Turkish Naval Attache and two armed Turkish sailors. Those guys locked and loaded, and we were escorted out. Thanks to the Turkish Navy, we paid nothing!

When you check out of a hotel, make sure you pack your things yourself. Don't let anyone in the hotel do it for you, cause they might steal your stuff.
I stayed in a hotel near the Istiklal area, So on the day i was to check out, i went out and wasn't sure when I'd come back, so i told the receptionist to help me pack my bags when it's time so that the room can be free. And boy, it took me two days to realised they had stolen my designer glasses and one of my African beads. LOL.
who the hell lets other people pack their stuff at a hotel? I have never heard of anyone doing that.
Had the samw done to me. Will NEVER visit Turkey again. I'm scarred for life. Told the police the next day, they just laughed. I've made sure at least 20 of my friends and family have not visited Turkey. Until the authorities clamp down on this, they don't deserve our money.
same thing happened to me 2 times in same day, i was in turkey for 4 days, my hotel was at istiklal street near taksim square, i was going somewhere, a guy stopped me around 7 pm and asked me to go club i said okay, when i went there they immediately served beer without asking about the order and 2 ladies came over my table and and telling about rates and i asked them i dont want girl and i dont want drink then they gave me a bill 750$ looll... i had money in my wallet but i asked them i dont have then things getting worst, they push me and my collar and take my wallet, and took 300 turkish lira and left all other currency 100 us dollar, 200 georgian lari and 100 euro, i had a in georgia as well thats y i had dollars and euro etc... then i left the club and went to restaurant near the club and asked the waiter give me the number of police and when i was writing a no. a guy cam suddenly and gave me 200 turkish lira and he said forget 100 bcoz u came in the club and see the girls wtf... i asked him i didnt touch the girl and i didnt touch the bear and i take my all 300 turkish lira.. i think that was the same club like we have seen in the video.. incident happened with me near taksim square and exactly on the istiklal street.. turkish people are full of shit asshole muderfucker.. turkish girls are so rude without having any thing.. beggers.. huhh

Personally I'd find a way to sabotage the place before I left the country.

i am tourist and i wanted to see every thing.
i live in dubai and here we have very controlled law and order, almost no crimes and scams and i thought turkey as also like dubai thats why i went club with stranger and i had lot of money but i got a lesson after this incident to not to keep much money in wallet when we travel somewhere.

you have to lure these scammers into an ally then beat the crap out of them or police should go undercover and if police are to corupt make this a national thing and report the police to a higher power
It is very well played, going to the only scammer club in Taksim, Istanbul which is closed. I made travel to many european countries and saw worst scammers. It is simple to avoid scammers just knowing how to say 'NO'. If you are travelling alone or feeling scared just download a police walkie talkie conversation sound to your phone and play it if you are feeling threatened.

I have been in Turkey ONE time. Because I had to - business trip. Will NEVER go back. Drank one beer, which had shards of glass in it. Luckily I saw it, and when I told the waiter he shrugged his shoulders. Don't go to this country!

There are limits to how much one is allowed to write in a comment on UA-cam. I could tell you many stories from my stay from street sellers, hotel employees, taxi drivers. A female friend of mine was raped in this country. I also know Turkish people. Again: don't go to this country.

I'm not saying all the citizen of my country are good but I know that if you go to any european country there is always people try to scam you just because you are a tourist. I know that because I travelled most of the europe and those countries are not different from us. And 1 more thing like you said wherever you go always do your research first and try to hang around at the places where locals go don't spend your holiday on touristic areas all the time. If you go to local places which can be found easily you won't get scammed instead people will treat you like a local not like a tourist.

I entered by mistake with a friend once in a oub like this in Istanbul. We ordered 2 glasses of whisky and at the end the waitor asked us to pay 400 dollars arguing it is the cost of the Chivas Regal bottle opened. My friend is a wild girl and she became shouting them about we will f****g call the police. We wont never pay anything like this! Give us the ticket and we will go to court! All this bravely screaming and facing the big guys. We left the place without paying.

Do you really think that the population of Istanbul is Turkish? Istanbul citizens are mostly descendants of byzantians. Eastern Anatolia is the place where Turks live.

I am Brazilian and now spending a few months in Turkey. The loveliest people on earth, even though they can't speak any English or any other foreign language, they will do their best to help you. If you find english speaking Turks trying to help you, get out... not a normal turk! :D

They tried this on us in London Soho. We drank shit loads of beer and had a fab night. Then bill came, £900. They locked the doors, we threatened to bottle them then burn the place down. We had another beer, all on the house. Plus we got to play with their girls. All for free.
