....All the Thai girls I’ve dated, (while on holiday there, rent-a-bar girl for 2 weeks or whatever) all said the same frigging thing to me at the near end of my holiday....."My father/mother is sick, i have no money, and can you help me?" This is the point where i start to fall asleep hearing this. All foreigners are targets; they view them as walking ATM machines. When they tell me this, it's the old action for me ...disappear a.s.a.p, which I always did, then found another girl quickly!
That's because you're picking up girls in bars. If you meet girls in trashy places, expect a trashy character. I realize that you're on holiday and not really trying to build a long-lasting relationship. Once you get back to your country she will call you or send you an e-mail telling you that she got hurt on a motorbike or that her mother or baby is sick. She will tell you she owes the hospital thousands of baht. She will tell you that she had to borrow money from a family member and that she will have to go back to work in the bar to pay it back. If she hands you her bank account information, she is going to squeeze you for money. Guaranteed!

Witnessed this phenomenon with my own eyes. It's an industry. Starts when you walk into any Thai beer--bar, disco....any place tourist males gather. I used to be charmed by the Thai ladies. I've been to Thailand three times now and so many women working in the entertainment industry are doing this in order to support themselves and their families, usually living in Issan Province. The best thing to do is to realise this, enjoy your ladies company while you are there and try not to fall in love with her, very difficult though as Thai women are so lovely and so charming. Unless you are in a proper long term relationship with the intention to marry, never send them money and even then I would be wary, their families will always come before you. I've spent time with Thai women that I met on social media while I was there and they were wonderful to be with but yes, I ended up liking them rather more than I should have so be careful.
If you can't find a woman, you'll end up with a Thai.

As a man who has lived in poorer countries for a while now, you can't blame the girl, these girls have lots of external family responsibilities including educating younger siblings, taking care of aging relatives etc.
Its not a game to her. She considers herself a legit business woman. Whether you fall in love or not is your problem, not hers. Its a meeting of two opposite worlds... lonely Western men looking for love vs. women (most genuinely good people) working a job.
Her needs are too far removed from yours for the relationship to grow beyond the "pleasure business". She is probably the sole bread winner for a whole group of siblings and parents (live alone her own children) and she isn't in it for the pleasure - its a job.

Hi i appreciate your trips around the world alerting tourists to being scammed. unfortunately many people are out there "scamming" their way to survive regardless of country and nationality. ive lived in asia myself for some time and have observed enough old and young men with their Thai / Filipina et al "girlfriend". who knows what they are doing and why to survive but i am given to understand that many of these girls do have to support their family or community. there have been some genuine relationships from this dynamic but equally make no mistake many of these girls are used and abused and their lives i would imagine are mostly very difficult. there is good and bad everywhere. we are so lucky in the west having the ability to travel and have holidays. that being said i have been scammed many times over the years because of scammers making illness, death, poverty etc. i dont go out at night when i travel abroad and certainly dont allow myself to be approached by "earnest" types offering their services or "help". i always reject them. enough of my male friends have told me stories when they were apparently scammed by local women "apparently" interested in them. Enough said!

If you go to bars and massage parlors, you should expect fun, not love although I'm sure love is not entirely impossible in these places. I'm sure there are plenty of nice and faithful Thai women outside of these areas that you could easily meet. Although extremely rare, I met a Thai woman in her 40's who was actually paying money every month to a British man who slept around like a "butterfly" according to her.
