Joey is an exceptional talent and that build is off the charts. I look forward to seeing how the car does this year. Thanks for sharing this great project.
Lots more like this. Most of us who watch your channel view it as a halo channel, meaning we’ll never touch the level you operate on, but it makes us dream about it. Going to watch this ridiculous pikes peak 911 rip around willow springs and talking with the team who built it is near unfathomably cool, and for a lot of your viewers this is the closest we’ll ever get to experiencing it. Keep this content coming, and I, for one, will keep watching.
It’s cute listening to an American-ized New Zealand accent. I’m Australian living in the US and the same kinds of things have happened to my accent too.
Man, what a hell of an opportunity of an experience! Definitely jealous haha. Being able to sit down with someone who's ran into the same issues you are encountering and being able to access his wealth of knowledge on the matters is definitely priceless. If you're anything like me, you probably took what you learned and dove into an evening of applying it to your own project. Seeing what tweaks can be made, what big changes overall can be done, etc. To me it's one of the most exciting parts of an engineering project! Nothing better than a good problem solving session; well, maybe the actual building portion. Watching plans come to life is always satisfying too!
Why not altitude compensating boost like turbocharged aircraft have instead of loosing boost as altitude increases? As altitude increases the waste gate closes.
I remember Rhys from a great show in Serra do Rio do Rastro (Brazil) and he's not only an amazing driver but also a wonderful human being. If I had to place him somewhere in motorsports he'd be close to Ari Vatanen and Walter Röhrl, to say a few.
What an incredible opportunity, really excited to see how it'll translate to the future development on the 308 and future projects. Will you be attending Pikes Peak this year??
Great content Mike, just love the California car culture and all that it feeds around the country so great timing as Indy is this weekend and so is the longest NASCAR race of the season! The 308 is looking great, heading down to the shop to adjust the clutch on ours today :)
I love your channel. The information you provide and the depth you go into detail with about the engineer side of things is the best I've seen. Would love to see more. Keep up the awesome work
Emotion engineering works on some mega top level Porsche... like the yellow GT1 lemans car. He has a really nice shop, too. The Millen’s have crazy experience on Pikes Peak. I think Rheys set a record in an electric /hybrid car.. few years ago... I think
I wish he would’ve kept working with Hyundai and the Genesis platform. That genesis coupe that he set the record with at Pikes Peak in 2012 is bad ass.
Pikes Peak is a really tough engineering challenge due to the altitude change and therefore air density change. This has generally been proven by how long it takes teams/individuals to build some kind of proficiency at the event. Joey sounds like he knows what he’s talking about! I would have loved to see more of what’s under the skin of that car but, suspect they didn’t want to give too much away!? I try to never miss an opportunity to learn. Everyday’s a school day and knowledge is king.
My middle son is named Rhys, not really after Rhys Millen, but because of him. I think I was watching a documentary on Netflix on the Pikes Peak hillclimb I think. My wife was about 6 months pregnant and we had no idea on names. I was like, oh, I like the name Rhys. The next day my wife said the same thing.
Amazing video, and an amazing opportunity to bounce ideas and problems with others of the same focus. These type of interactions get the gears turning and the joints greased up to get back to the grind. Hopefully the parts hold up resolves and the Ferrari moves under its own power soon!
Man 100th running of pikes would be a great event. Wish the boy was a bit older, I would love to take him! Are you going to go? Definitely some good content there haha.
Mike, ask if they can come and take a look see at the 308 Feronda. Worse thing you will get is we r si busy maybe later in the year. I think Joey and Rhys will coxme take a look and give you some pointers. Plus maybe can help you get those wheels.
Does it ever strike you that one day you'll have your car out, testing and playing with set ups, and someone will be there, like you were ..asking the same things? And to have that knowledge from your own experience and those that've been shared to help the next person perfect their build?
Outstanding content, Mike. Terrific job in filming the on-track portion and the interviews with Rhys Millen who needs no introduction. Joe Seely has some tough competition this year which will make a win more meaningful.
“It’s hard to capture the sound of anything but the wing at willow springs…” Understatement of the century. It would have been considered a light day by residents.
Definitely keep producing videos like this when the opportunity comes up! What a great day for you to learn and validate your ideas. Thanks for taking us along.
Yeah, always keen to see more stuff like this when you've got the time! Wouldn't want it to take over your project, but dropping an ep like this in every so often is awesome
Would be interesting to see how the motor makes that power on so little boost , we know porsches make good power on not a lot of boost but 1000 to the hubs with 17 psi ???
I would have been right there with you asking all kinds of questions. A smart man knows when to ask a question, then be quiet for the answer... Keep up the good work brother...
Up against the BBI /Hoonigan crew ..with their 901 hoonipigasus. It’s got 1,400 HP ( 4.0 twin turbo flat six) ... the driveshaft to the front is at arm rest level.. over the top of the motor.... all the way to the front
When your intro just let the engine idle with no music or interruption I knew this was going to be good 👌🏻 this format is a great compliment to the build content.
Yes sir!! I love how you share everything you learn so that we're not just along for your ride we're along for our own.. I'm coming up grass roots and no content yet but I'm with you dude learn us all!!
The only guy as suitable right now for that job, IMHO Ruben Zeltner. Absolute GT3 specialist, German Rally Champion in a Porsche GT3. Or Kevin Estre, lunatic by trade. And I would look especially for a driver with a Porsche background . Edit: I forgot, they are busy with Nürburgring 24 right now.
You should not gloss over the fact the he asked for less torque. The car is like a lever, down force on the back lifts the front (bad mid corner). Don't make the mistake of upsetting the car by putting too much power or downforce on the rear without an a similar force acting on the front. You will probably need a massive front spliter to counter a massive rear wing at high speeds.
Edit: I replied to the wrong person. You're totally right! I do have a huge splitter to go up front. I'll also be running a good bit less power on track than the 911 is. We'll start small and build up!
I assume you're using audio filters when you process your video footage, but if you aren't, try a 150hz high pass filter to block the traditional ruffly wind noise that makes it past your dead cat/blimp on your mic.
Fantastic video Mike, the videography is awesome! It's really cool how you can go from fabricating right into basically journalism and it's all completely interesting. Love it!
Great video, that's one great testing learning a lot about airfoils and how they can better aero dynamics an upgrading the same static to a active wing is so easy ,found the ex10 builder kit by victor racing outstanding .
Pretty sick. It’s not really a GT3 cup at this point tho. Lol. Maybe more similar to a GT2RS “cup” (if they made one) with a ton of downforce (obviously for the thinner air).
While the car is WAY faster, more powerful, and better looking than any car I've ever owned, the exhaust note at start up is just..... sad. Nothing like the drag cars at Brainerd, Crossville, or Bristol. Totally different cars yes, but still exhaust sound is a standard thats hard to get around. Cool car though.
Any knowledge given by SMEs is good knowledge taken to add to any project of your liking. It's just a matter of taking that knowledge and applying it to the project for desired results. It would be really cool if that engineer would come down and look at the 308 and give some pointers. Their is nothing better than actually having him at the shop.
sir great informative kool video.... my opinion on a comment you made in closing tho, just an old offroad racers opinion..... knowledge is much more than just "worthwhile" it is the king on the list of needed items to complete any given task.... that is to include the knowledge of when to stop and ask for help .... that last one is often the downfall or delay in accomplishing said task
if you ever have the pleasure of meeting Joey you will understand why he is as good as he is. He’s very methodical. No one else will touch my Porsche but him.
😈😈😈 how do you contrast level shifts in diagnostic results where o2 sensor on input as out put would decine where motor operation should advance to compensate limitations then the torque curves with turbine boost could burn out the plugs 😈😈😈😈
when was this filmed? i was driving through the desert last week and im pretty sure i saw this car without the penzoil stickers? there was a few other 911's . i thought it was odd until i realized willow springs was 5 minutes away.
So this is up against the hoonipigasus? Can't wait to see that, same cars, 2 of the best drivers in the world, 1 ultimate time trail, it's gonna be epic.
Dammit! Back to the salt mines. Chain yourself to the 308 and do some work, you off-topic slacker! Wait... This sort of field trip is great content to watch, and is near-adjacent to SW projects in general. This is on-topic for why I watch, and interviews with these kind of experts elevate your channel. Feel free to share more pics of that 911 and things that caught your eye as a fabricator. Great episode! You can work on more double-jointed inverted TIG pedal manipulation next week.
Shows how amazing your build is compared to fully equipped shops who work with the best tools available.
Pikes Peak - Ari Vatanen - Climb Dance.
That was control of overpowered car on gravel (then) road!
Joey is an exceptional talent and that build is off the charts. I look forward to seeing how the car does this year. Thanks for sharing this great project.
What this guy said
Is there any way to watch pikes peak live ? or like who should I watch on here ?
Lots more like this. Most of us who watch your channel view it as a halo channel, meaning we’ll never touch the level you operate on, but it makes us dream about it. Mike this was actually a nice surprising break from the builds
Not only am I here for the 308 and the model A truck but I’m here for the next build
It’s cute listening to an American-ized New Zealand accent. I’m Australian living in the US and the same kinds of things have happened to my accent too.
Rod and Rhys are absolute Kiwi legends, racing's in their blood for sure
Don’t leave out Steve!
Man, what a hell of an opportunity of an experience! Definitely jealous haha.

Damn Mike, your interview videos are shockingly good! Great lighting and shot setup, great audio, and great dialogue content. Well done sir!
I remember Rhys from a great show in Serra do Rio do Rastro (Brazil) and he's not only an amazing driver but also a wonderful human being. If I had to place him somewhere in motorsports he'd be close to Ari Vatanen and Walter Röhrl, to say a few.

This was a fantastic video! Love learning about the intricacies and nitty-gritty bits of the build over just flashy stuff.
I’ve never been this early and I am so excited to see this car in person.
Me too😂
@@seanstuck572 have you been to pikes peak hill climb before? This is my first time
@@beastfte2129 no

It's nice to see the channel branching out with video style. Please more like this!
I love your channel. The information you provide and the depth you go into detail with about the engineer side of things is the best I've seen. Would love to see more. Keep up the awesome work

Willow Springs Raceway... Famous for being devoid of willows and springs.
More like Wind Desert Raceway
Definitely keep producing videos like this when the opportunity comes up! What a great day for you to learn and validate your ideas. Thanks for taking us along.
More of this would be great! Absolutely love the involvement in the culture. The opportunity to access guys like these is so awesome and very unique.
Your 308 is a joy to watch during its building. Well done, even if you did not put a Toyota V6 :-) in there
Yeah, always keen to see more stuff like this when you've got the time! Wouldn't want it to take over your project, but dropping an ep like this in every so often is awesome
so does stacking the coolers works or not ?
Great episode! Great to see that the fellow Kiwi's are flying..
Enjoyed the trackside video = More Out & About please
Mike、 thanks。 Exactly what I was looking for on Pikes Peak topic。
Rod Millen is the MAN!
Amazing car. I would call it a GT2-R if it has twin turbos. 😎
Yes more stuff would be great. Hopefully this convinced you into the Porsche gang. I know a 944 is in your future here soon :)
Can you get access to do an episode on Rod Mullen's Celica that he is running again this year. It is one of my all time favorite cars
Would be interesting to see how the motor makes that power on so little boost , we know porsches make good power on not a lot of boost but 1000 to the hubs with 17 psi ???

I loved both this video and the Tocoma video. This is properly cool content

sadly BBI/ Hoonigan didn’t qualify as the car broke down and couldn’t make the qualifying run in order to race.
You're a filmmaker now, so, yeah, tell the stories you feel like telling, also, who doesn't like a swell fieldtrip?
I could listen to that Porsche cold start up for hours.
When your intro just let the engine idle with no music or interruption I knew this was going to be good 👌🏻 this format is a great compliment to the build content.

Excellent video all the way through! The filming, the order of the content, the shots, the story telling, so good! Will you be going to Pikes Peak?
Really enjoyed the video, Pikes Peak is on my bucket list. Will you be there? Yes to more field trips.
Unfortunately I won't be. I don't think.

@StanceWorks are you going to Pikes Peak hill climb?
Dope video Mike keep it up👍🏻
thanks for this window into how preparations are going, looking for to see how the car performs on the mountain. good luck on your build
Dude, the conscience doesn't counter-steer towards a cliff, that's a gut thing. I'm also sure it's the right driver when I see that.
I would love to see outdoor RIPS in the Ferrari, that first start up was awesome...

this was a great out of shop episode.would watch more

Love watching this series!
Keep the content coming, Mike 👍

Great content, superb edit.
Both he and his father are also successful ralley drivers! They both have run this when it was at most to about half dirt.
I’m going to see the Pikes Peak Hill Climb Race
😈😈😈😈 or a stage 2 tune setting on swtich to steering wheel 😈😈😈😈 dont know the rules

Whoa!!! We are not worthy!!! Prerequisite Ken Block? You are just showing off and I love it! Thank you for the content!!!
Hell yes that car is epic keep following up with them
you think you might attempt pikes peak with the ferrari at some point?
Nice son of cobra body parts !
There's some pretty stiff competition this year, I think a tickled up gt3 won't be enough for overall victory!
Dude yes. Loved this one.
The best type of field trip
wow ,, subscribed .. :-)
Now THAT is how you start off a video.
Solid video brother
My man Austin day is looking good
Knowledge is wealth!
I’ve never heard a Porsche have chop 😳
It looks similar to ken blocks
