The way you edited and scripted this makes it one of the greatest auto racing video reports of all time
I'm so happy I did not know the results ahead of time. The ending was totally unexpected and had me absolutely verklempt
@@groundcontrolgainesville4841 emotional rollercoaster for sure - Taz.
No kidding!
But to me its feel like a daily small community doing races at the mountain
amen to that
That new carbon fiber steering wheel was the secret sauce! All Hail the Algorithm.
That sketchy grip on it add a few more hp
18:40 what an absolute god 🤣. I can imagine that conversation when he got back "sorry my time was a little slow in the top section, I had a rollover"
I'm absolutely shocked that it wasn't too damaged to finish. Proves how durable you need to build them to handle the forces of racing.
@@906MediaProductions that is levi shirley in an ultra4, that is a nothing compared to some of the normal racing conditions they see. Its another great style of motorsport where the top class is truly unlimited and the only rules relate to safety.
It was the narrow "off-road buggy", so bodywork and tires/suspension were tough and would not be bent out of place. (But you're certainly more likely to catch a rollover than something much lower to the ground/wider)
no kidding lol, dude just shrugged it off like it was normal, probably took him a second to get moving becuase he had to recall where the track was. "That way? yeah that way"
Not the first time he has rolled and KEPT rolling lol..! I love that he has a rock racing buggy up PPi.
This uniqueness is what has been missing from the Indy 500 for many decades. In the early days, maybe up through the 1970's, the cars were much more interesting.
Bow there is the freedom 500 with stock crown vic's.
Always been a fan of hill climbs. Grew up near a very nice track in the Alps. Cars got better every year. 5 mins after finishing my driver's test, at age 18, I took my dad's Alfa and raced up the hill. I never told him.
Built my own 500hp Cobra hill climber for Haleakala. Good times.
Modern can am series would be insane
18:40 Like a boss. He rolls his car over, takes a sec, and then gets back on the track to finish the race.
A friend of mine owned a 1952 ,all aluminum Jag roadster. He did the Pike's Peak Rally several times. On one run ,he ran into the cloud layer. So he slowed way down, because it was total white out. He was then passed by a Ferrari, he pulls to the side of the road, shuts off the engine and listens. He can't hear the Ferrari, he gets out of the Jag,and walks up the road, he then hears some one cursing a blue streak and struggling. Approaching the edge of the road(a drop of about 1000 ft) hear is the Ferrari driver trying to climb back up on to the road. My friend helped him up and took him as passenger for the rest of the rally. The Jag driver was Charlie Morgan, classic Jag drivers will know him. Rest in peace Charlie.
I am a senior engineering student, my motorsports experience is only in Formula Student. This video summed up our emotions on our last event, except for the end:
We followed the if it ain't broke don't fix it mantra. We had new hubs for our second year car, but didn't swap them because testing was limited due to covid. We went to our last competition after a failure in the first one with our hopes being high. On acceleration, our tripod on the right rear hub rode the insert, a result from a driveshaft failure last year. We had skidpad and autox on the next day. We decided to not replace the hub and hope for the best. It did the same thing in skidpad, machining the insert completely. In 5 hours, we swapped the hub, pressed it into the upright and passed tech (again). We were 5th in autox and as we were celebrating a bolt was found to not meet ground clearance: DSQ
Next day endurance: everything is checked and ready:
Car goes out, blitzes everyone but the top teams (millions in budget, ours not even in 6 digits). As we are celebrating techs find oil spills from the catch can, a one way valve had failed and oil had boiled: DSQ
Sour taste but a rollercoaster experience in 2 days.
Oh man that sucks, that bolt shouldve been found during tech
@@D3nn1s the inspectors were either alumni from other teams, or they found it and kept it from us for post, either way, those were some of the most intense and amazing days of my life.
@@TheZanzaroni 2nd option would be pretty shitty but yeah people are doing that, been a similarish incident on my sailing team too...
Yeah that mustve been nice, once had the opportunity to look at a formula student car closeup, pretty nice :D
@@D3nn1s Thanks! Some competitions do it for sure, I don't know about our case. It's a crazy world where engineering usually happens at the first 6 months and then it's just a project car built by monkeys, but when these things run they're awesome!
The downforce commentary is so damn logical and informative. The corrections for cutting the front undertray and adding more front wing are great. The difference between the old and new diffusers is insane. It's not incremental at all. I can imagine that conversation ending with, "fuck it."
Love the array of cars. Wish I could have taken my dad before he passed. He was an aerospace engineer and total car guy. He would have loved your channel. Thanks for the awesome videos Matt.
This is one race that’s on my bucket list to see in person
Pikes peak, Baja, and King of the Hammers
Yes to all of them but I don’t know of king of hammers I have to look into that one
This year was my first year! I couldn't see shit the whole time and loved it😅
I was here for this race. I was at the staging area where the car waited to take off. I saw myself a couple times in this video.
And The Isle of Man TT
Matt, really excellent storytelling. I've honestly never been that interested in hill climbs until watching this. Bravo.
I was watching from devils playground! Sadly didn't get to see much because of the fog but still an incredible experience.
Great video, very interesting to get some more context behind the winning team!
nice to see you here!
Pikes peak rocket carplane when? Or maybe a spin launching it up the mounatin?
@@Propulus This is a great idea!
Hmm, one of my favorite KSP players likes hill climb racing too? Nice. :D
The crossover I never thought would exist
Beautifully told. Was on the edge of my seat the whole time, even after already knowing the results! Well done.
I've hill climbed in soupy conditions, but the level of commitment Robin, Rod, and the others that basically went as full-send as possible with that level of visibility is simply incredible.
i've been watching your channel for about three hours tonight. First time seeing you. Your videos are so great. I want to be you when I grow up. But I'm already grown up, and missed my chance to be a mechanical engineer. Your channel is the perfect way for me to live vicariously. Keep up the good work and I'll tell all my gearhead friends about you (if they don't know about you already). Found you through Jay, and I'd love to shove a motorcycle engine in a small vintage roadster. See you up on the crest some time!
Oh, and love your sense of humor :)
Love these pikes peak video's, it's nice get the signature slightly snarky matt commentary instead of the overplayed screamy race anouncers
As always, incredible storytelling, Matt. All hail the algorithm!
All hale MATT. He is moter head master story teller.
Man, that was wholesome. Great storytelling, I cried at the end. 🥺
Matt, inspite of the algorithm, you are an outstanding writer.
I love your delivery. Thanks for sharing.
You provide such a unique glimpse into the racing community. All through an incredibly enjoyable lense. Thank you for all your content!
Great year! Always funny to see yourself in random videos on UA-cam when you aren't expecting it. I was probably standing next to you at least a dozen times and it never registered otherwise I would have said hi. It was a whirlwind of a week and I will need at least a week to get caught up on sleep I think.
Thanks Matt for bringing us along on this race. I don't watch racing much, and I don't plan to start now. Unless it's on your channel, then I will watch it. All hail the algorithm!
I've built and run a lot of race cars and it's quite incredible how many things go wrong and for seemingly the strangest of reasons, in the end you learn to build and prepare the car to an exact formula where every single thing you've learned from all the previous failures is included in the build then at last you reach a point where the darn thing works reliably. At times I seriously wondered if God was playing a game with me the way that the reliability issues were caused by so many, so strange and such unforeseeable things.
Damn you cut this one together superfast, Matt.... I couldn't believe they actually ran to be top this year. Crazy race.
This is got to be one of my favorite PPHC commentaries ever! All the drama without the hype and plenty of problem solving explained. I TRULY enjoyed this beginning to end. Congratulations to team of The Sendy Club.
Love those team uniforms. Amazing car and great teamwork getting it back up and running....And Winning!
I remember being super disappointed going out with a failure for the first time, all the old guys just chuckled and said "That's Racing".
I loved that car that flipped, landed right side up and just kept on going as if nothing happened lmao
That was a fantastic documentary of this attack on the Peak. Well done, sir!
Pikes Peak 2022 was great, too bad it did not get that much attention as the Goodwood Festival of Speed coincided with their hillclimb as well. By the way, that McMurtry BLEW the competition away. Literally!
You mean the competition that does not exist at Festival of speed?
@@indiebekonn Are you unfamiliar with the hill climb???
The McMurtry run at FOS was insane. I hope they run it at Pikes Peak next year.
@@dddddyyn I’m very familiar with it. But claiming any records and to be fair timing it at all is disingenuous. The only true record of the course is the Nick Heidfeld’s one after which F1 was banned from competition because “it got too fast”.
@@indiebekonn Seems like you are unfamiliar. You should educate yourself.
Congrats to the Sendy Club, this shows that Hard work, Dedication, Good Luck and a little bit of Insanity goes a long way.
Here's to a new Dynasty! 🏁
Thank you SuperFast Matt for covering this for us.
As a former motorcycle competitor on pikes peak, this video absolutely captures what almost every privateer goes through. I've had engines fail to start during practice, synthetic clutch lines melt on the start line as I get the green flag, crashes, poor running tunes, etc. Persistence is the key to this race. I started in 2012 and finally won in 2014 in the lightweight moto class. Always fun watching stuff like this
My comments don't show up in certain places but hoping this one does; This was an awesome video, great footage, excellent story telling of the challenges and the culmination of all their efforts.
I initially misheard "everything finally went smoothly" as "everything finally meant something" , can loosely relate to thrashing to get to an event just to break right off the trailer, or in the first run, etc. as both interpretations (misheard and actual) are definitely how I've felt.
The absolute legend that rolled and their cage/chassis builder(s) are to be applauded.
I've never ever had even the slightest interest in cars, let alone race cars. But then I stumbled over you channel, and you instantly became my fav UA-camr. You videos are just awesome, keep up the great work!
Another excellent film/documentary Matt! Really enjoyed it!
Got to say their perseverance was/is completely amazing. A well-deserved victory!
Thanks for doing these videos man. We went this year because of the one you did last year and we will likely continue because it was awesome! Devil’s Playground was super foggy but the sounds and the split seconds that we got of the cars were exhilarating. 10/10 would recommend. (Bring a rain jacket and 3 layers more than what you think you need)
Fantastic! great story. Brought back some good racing memories of friends helping rebuild a motorcycle to make the grid. The "racing" is the whole experience, not just the driving/riding.
Really really great point about changing nothing and having an excellent car with a comparatively lower risk of failure.
First time watcher of your channel. I really like your succinct but just detailed enough commentary, keeping the pace up. A lot of channels tend to have a slow and meandering pace, but I like faster paced information, and focus from an audience perspective, great job!
Great job recording, narrating and editing. And, anything else I may have missed.
Love this video I promise I gave you all my thumbs... Quite uncomfortable I might add but I'm truly content with my life decisions to go above and beyond to support you and your channel while handy capping myself....my gaming dreams aside. I can only give you 2 stub ups for future reference... hopefully you can except these stubs proudly for what they used to be in future videos when given and to continue the good fight for all those that have wacked off there digits due to your pursuits in making awesome content. Really do love the videos... whatever your reasons for making them I don't know but I appreciate knowing that it's going to be good when watched.
Better coverage than anyone else i've watched yet.
Great video. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride!
Brilliant Video Matt, one of the best, great story at a great event
Yes! So much enginerding! Keep up the great work Sendy Club!
I just discovered this channel, 2things i love,GOOD COMMANTATING AND RACING YEAHHHH
That was a really professionally made little mini documentary Matt...superb, I'd guess you really love the Sindy Club, and I suspect they really love you!... Thanks.
Good job on the commentary and editing! I really loved it!
Amazing coverage, I was expecting them to not even start, many times!
Good job boys, and good camera & narration work Matt. Send it!
This is an awesome little documentary. Well done.
Fantastic- love your content Matt more than any other on YT. The win is the only recent event that I can remember that makes me proud to be a Brit. Thanks for keeping me entertained 👍🏻
I've been wanting to watch this for 4 months inbetween busy life.
Thank you again for fantastic coverage of The Sendy Club's attempt.
You strike the perfect balance between technical detail, entertainment value and overall higher level coverage of the event! (yes, even though its Sendy Club centric)
Great job overall! Thank you!
That was a great account of the Pikes Peak run. Great video!. Thank you.
Great video! Such an awesome event. Also it has been paved for 10 years! Dang I am getting old
wow what a nice documentary, never were into that kind of racing before, but this is amazing
Always loved that livery. Looks perfect on the car.
Another great video about Pikes Peak Matt thank you
I'm pretty sure that steering wheel "The UA-camr" made was one of the deciding factors to this year's win, mind a little hard work on the teams side helped a bit as well.
Your getting good at this sort of stuff maybe you should keep doing it!
Tony from Western Australia 🇦🇺
Great video sir! Amazing you got this out so quickly.
This was by far my favorite race event I've ever been to. I was up at Devil's Playground in the shitty weather, and I loved every second of it! I will attend every year form now on. Got to speak to the 000 Porsche Project guys at fan fest and they ended up being friends of my neighboring shop (I restore Porsches at Potzinger Rewerks and our neighbors are TKX Performance)!
Well done SuperfastMatt!
Amazing video Matt, thanks for sharing!
Man I love the way you tell stories
Examples of human passion and ingenuity so often bring a tear to my eye. Thanks for telling the story. I love it.
Gotta love Rod Millen. He has won in so many different classes of car of racing over the years! At his property here in New Zealand (where he is of course from) he runs a hill climb race that is actually his driveway! he designed it to be like a race track! All for charity at the same time.
best video I've seen of the race! Thanks for all of the nitty gritty details of what goes in behind the scenes!
Best race report I've ever watched! Love it, very happy for the team and Robin!
fantastic narration, top pictures too, thank you, not many videos like this available, pity
I own the 1952 MGTD that my grandpa raced in the Pike's Peak Hill Climb. I absolutely love your coverage of this race.
Awesome video. Loved the flow and presentation.
After being there this past weekend to watch this team win, this video puts the icing on the cake on an amazing race full of challenges. SuperfastMatt has done an outstanding job putting this video together!
Great commentary. Thank you.
Love, love, love the style of your storytelling. Keep this going - PLEASE. Subscribed. And going to follow.
Been eagerly awaiting this video. Thanks so much for your excellent edit, commentary, insight, reporting, etc.
Finally, the Pikes Peak video we've all been waiting for.
Very good job presenting Matt. Engineers that understand dramatic timing are never appreciated in the field because people wanna know what went wrong and how to fix it as fast as possible. When you dramatically pause or introduce twists it's fantastic. When I do it, I get fired
Only victory can sweeten a sweaty shoe full of champagne. Well done team Sendy.
Amazing. I heard the news whilst watching Goodwood. Thanks for the great vid.
Oh yeah! Watched the 2021 video last onth and I have been trying to memorize this course on BeamNG, it is WILD, even in game it is a victory to finish with the hardcore cars. The in-game track is pretty unforgiving, can't begin to visualize the real life one, with a full send prototype. As allways, amazing documentary on the race.
I meant to attend this year, especially since I live so close to Pikes Peak now, but I lost track of time and missed the date. >.< I'm so glad you presented a brief overview of Sendy Club's efforts, glad I got to see it, even if I'm very late to do so.
Matt, this doc was incredibly well done...
Great coverage again Matt!
Congratulations on overcoming the madness!
*CONGRATULATIONS GUYS...!!!*
Well deserved! Amazing effort.
Thank you for covering Pike Peak and the SCTA! Love it!
A very well told story, thank you for the (as always) wonderful narrative.
Thanks for bringing us one of the best team specific, and appropriately abbreviated reports, of the 2022 Pikes Peak.
Major kudos to Robin Shute and his team for doing it again!
And of course - All hail the algorithm
This was awesome to watch. Thank you.
I appreciate the team uniforms. The understated speed and practicality of plaid. Genius!
Wow Matt, 👏 that was awesome! What an amazing team! Thanks for that video!
Ive been WAITING to hear what happenned.!!! thank you for such a great video!!!!!
Great video production Matt!
Marvelous summary. Are you sure it wasn't your steering yoke that won. I hear it got there before Robin. OK I'll go ahead and ring the bill like you asked.
Just what I need.......something else to squeeze into my bucket list. Cool segment there Matt!
How cool is that! Well done, Sendy Club! And many thanks, Matt, for bringing us so close to the action.
I typically skip driving/event videos because they tend to be very boring to me, but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Thank you for bringing us this story.
This was awesome ! Thank you
Masterpiece of editing in suspense. Well done, sir.
