Thank you so much for taking on one of my favourite singers!! Looking forward to Nessun Dorma
Big fan of the new format, nicely done. Regarding Eric, since he has said in numerous interviews over the years he doesn't have any formal training whatsoever; pretty amazing he is so technically sound.
You'd probably have a field day with Joakim Brodén of Sabaton. lol
Un spanish please!!!!!!!
@@MDMetal Hahaha, one of the less skilled "metal singers" I've ever heard.
at last someones bothered to react him, has been among the greatest singers of any genre for 35 years...well done sir!
Nessun Dorma is probably my favorite vocal performance of his. Right up there with Guyana in my opinion.
@@CordlessCinema cant argue with your choices, but for me dark avenger is the moment i realised he had a voice thats once in a generation
@@stonersid Adams is one of a kind, he was called "the wonder boy" back in the days ;) i just can't get enough of BAttle Hymn last verse and his powerful voice!
Manowar is a hot topic, all videos disappear in an hours. They managed to erase all history, even most lives.
My fav band and vocal fore over 30 years, greetings from Norway.
Fantastic analysis, brother! Keep going!
Thanks. :)
O melhor cover de Eric Adams! Grande Dan!
Uai,ah oce aqui meu fi,se tá bão?!kkkkkkkkkkkk...
THE MOST UNDERRATED METAL VOCALIST EVER!
Hail King Eric! 🤴
He's not underrated.
@@bjoern_thun_dersteel he isn’t among people who know him. I’d say the band is underrated. I think the Viking/Nordic/fantasy theme puts many off without giving them a chance
@@TheNoSuchThingPodcast i don't think it's the Viking things that putts them of. I think it's their attitude about were the kings of Metal. But the thing is,
Eric has nothing to do with this .
It's just Joey DeMaio .
And everybody ignores that fact.
@@bjoern_thun_dersteel good point. I didn’t know about the backstory at all until I heard all this. I know they haven’t played in the states for years and I’m pissed about it
One of the BEST voices ever at the Heavy Metal genre!!
Man EPIC analysis..Finally Eric is given his due. Nice to see a deep analysis of this great singer and on one of the greatest ballads ever made..BRAVO the GODS are pleased with Zach Ansley today.Your seat in Valhalla is ensured
Eric's voice is the reason I got into ManowaR and Metal at all, when I heared his singing and screams in the song 'Kingdom Come' back in 1989, when I was 10 years old!! It kept stuck in my head and ManowaR are still my Kings and will be forever!!
I knew a lot about them, but never seen an analysis that professional about Eric's voice!! It was so interesting, and I'm thankful, that You did this video!! Well done, my man, keep up the good work, and I'm now about to subscribe, because You deserve it!!! 🙂🙂🙂
Kingdom come still makes me sooo emo. the ending is the most epic ending across any songs, any genre! Thats how much i love it
@@musicbynaush
Agreed!! 😊☺
Man totally agree!! Kingdom Come is definately one of my favourite Manowar songs. The same happened to me when I first heard it. For me it was actually on my 13th birthday when I got the Kings of Metal album as a present from my sister in May '89 several months after its official release...it totally changed my life...!!
Kings of Metal was the biggest change in my musical taste for me, ever.. it was like made by god 😆 absolutely unreal!
Eric is extremely underrated. Eric is without a doubt one of the best metal singers that ever graced the industry.
Eric Adams is the best ever! He once told that he visited a vocal teacher only once as a youngster. The lesson was how to breath. After that, he never had any formal training! Eric is completely self-taught, which makes his accomplishments ever greater!
wildyracing1 well, thats what he told in media to sound cool, but he has had a lot of formal training. He has been singing classical since 75 actually 😉
wildyracing1, Sorry, but that’s not true... Eric has had many years of formal training. 🙂
@@Thomasoekland1 Any links? I assumed he was classically trained
@@bigron8896 a lot of research whent into find it all. I have taking photos as I found things, but it would take a while to find them all 😂 In 1975 he joined St mary (church choir - i found him on the picture) where he sang tenor for at least 35 years (the same choir that sang backup on the «hail to england» album. Somewhere between 76-78 Lou sang the lead on a recording of a classical piece - but it has proven imposible to come by, as not many copies where made.
What you can find on youtube is «harlequin - fever», where you really can hear the the beautifull unspoiled voice he had at that time (78). You should also check out «bible black», where you can find 2 numbers with him singing (lou marullo). There is also a lot of interesting history from the guy who put it up 💪🏻. Think bible black was demo’ed in spring/summer 81, and manowar whent to florida in the fall/winter 81, so i do not know if lou left or was kicked from bible black, or if he was just helping them out. (The guitar player from bible black, played with joey and lou (eric) in a band in 1976 (looks).
@@bigron8896 so I know the choir leader was teaching him (classicaly), but i have not found any sourses on anything before that. But Lou whent to a catholic school, and there was a classical choir there, and strict teaching, so if you put 2 and 2 together - I think he started early. He is from a familly with a lot of children, and as i can recall, his father was a good singer, there were music in the home (his parents liked opera). Lou’s son is also a good singer - his name is Eric 🙈 Lou tells some cool stories in «lou marullo - string theory for bowhunters» i could recomend it. I have found most info when reading stuff under his real name, not under manowar, because he is supposed to be a bad ass there 😂
In a manowar «story» he states that he heard the screams from ian gillian and tried to foumd his own way.. but if you listen to «harlequin - fever», it all comes from his classical training. In that song you hear how carefull he was at that time in his mix - he whent into head voice from about F#-G#, and was not pushing. And the head voice was gentle. But his pich was brilliant. I read somewhere that produsers called him mr «one take». All that choir on the Harlequin single would be a pain in the ass money wise if he couldn’t cut it in one or two takes.. if it is not 98% in pich - all that choir would sound terrible - but it sounds heavenly.
It’s amazing how Eric still has a voice with all that screaming for many years especially live night after night. A true talent and well disciplined individual with a warrior’s scream.
Cesar Plaza I don’t know about night after night. The band took long breaks between records from Hail and Kill forward. Not detracting from Eric’s skills, but surely not as overextended as say, Dio or Dickinson.
@@JosesAmazingWorldsyeah, but that's the band's fault also, Karl Logan hast produced any song that really fits the style of the albums before The triumph of steel. They're good and all, but it's like it's not Manowar before. All the previous albums were interesting and fun to listen to. There was never a song like Hatred or The blood of my enemies.
It's all De Maio's fault
Eric Adams is a phenomenal singer, and one of the nicest persons.
Eric Adams hasn't lost anything in 40 years. He knows how to sing.
This guy seems like the ultimate storyteller. Everything he is and does serves the music perfectly. Makes me want to listen to them again, after many years. On the other hand, the songs are full of kitsch and I can't listen to that for too long. When I think of anyone to rival him in terms of storytelling, only Dio and Bruce Dickinson come to mind.
Th greatest metal singer ever!
Zack, best reaktions on youtube! First Manowar reaction I’ve seen. Really liked it! Everyone else seem to follow in each other’s tracks.
Something I find defining about Eric is how well he articulates, can’t think of another singer where each word is as clear.
I saw him 3 times live. This guy is a genius. He can sing everything. His voice is powerful and its unbelievable that he sings better in Live than on the studio albums. I saw 1 lot of bands live but erich adams is definetly the best live singer ive ever seen.
what's makes this extra impressive is that young Eric Adams was even more devastating. He really aged finely
Zach,by far you are my favourite vocal analizer in you tube, been here fro your very begining, you deserve so much more mate!keep it up!greetings from greece!Unfortunatelly there is not much material of live manowar on you tube! His has even more better live tracks and more demanding to analyze like bridge of death!Amazing job, thank you
Robert Plant, Rob Hartford.
After 40 years, Eric still kind of sounds the same.
Thank you for analyzing Eric Adams. I've been a big fan of his voice for years and your video made me listen to him in a bit of a different way. I now have even more respect for him and his voice.
Btw, anyone who wants to hear Eric's whole range in one song, look up Call to Arms, all the way from b5 to d2 by the time the first verse is done!
Great analysis, Zach and much needed.
Manowar has been one of my favorite bands since 1987 when I got my hands on a Fighting the World cassette. Eric's been one of my favorite singers all of these years too. I don't have his range and I can't scream like him without hurting myself, but I have learned so much singing along with him over the past 30 years. This was a great video and I really appreciate it!
Eric Adams is the best singer for me. And he is shamefuly underrated.
Loved hearing your complete analysis of Eric, Zach. I have been a fan of Manowar and Eric's voice for decades. I still remember back when my (ex) wife heard his voice on this particular song and, as an amateur church singer, she decided to get all holier-than-thou and insult him. I found it highly ironic considering how 1) his body of work and ability are amazing and recognized by millions -- including vocal coaches like you, and 2) she wasn't even capable of vibrato or matching Eric's range. During my karaoke trips here in Japan, I always sing some Manowar, among other similar things, and my friends compliment the performance and music -- it's not something most of them typically hear. Whenever I sing Manowar's stuff, I am always renewed in my respect for Eric Adams' voice and discipline.
Eric Adams is a beast!!!
Thank You for this video. Eric Adams is one of the best of all time. So many memories listening to Him and Manowar .
This video was a joy, sometimes it's just nice to have a singer THIS good being analysed. Nice stuff, Zach
Thank you for this! I've been trying to find a professional review of Eric Adams for a while now, but due to the aforementioned difficulty of finding Manowar videos on UA-cam not many people seem willing to put in the time and effort to give him a fair shake. He definitely deserves it though, he's got talent in spades. One of my musical idols and inspirations for a long time now.
I’ve been following Manowar for 35 years I’ve never missed a beat
Who else thought of "Grandfather tell me a story" when the vocal coach talked about Eric Adams use his voice like he is storytelling :)
yes mate that music have 2 legendary voices of all time eric and the best story teller voice of this planet orson wells.they are like fredy mercury one of a kind cheers 👍
Hi is a modern bard
Awesome analysis...... would like to have you analyze Michael Kiske..... He is one of the most rounded singers out there... from Helloween, Avantasia (metal)...to his band Unisonic (rock).... his Solo stuff (heavy+acoustic)...and now his duets with Amanda Somerville..... Analyze then reserch.. cause this guy will blow your mind🤘🤘🤘
Michael Kiske fan myself, but his schtick has been done (and sometimes even surpassed) by other singers, HOWEVER : the truly mindblowing thing about Michael is that his voice never aged. Every other highpitched heavy metal vocalist lost an octave throughout the years. Kiske didn't. That's pretty amazing.
Make a video on Daniel Heiman
Heard the two songs when I brought together Michael Kiske and Daniel Heiman? Check Angel of Light, and King Thorgan’s Hymn :)
Manowar is my favorite band since i was 16 (now i'm 31) english is not my first language so i struggle to understand foreign music, the voice of Eric was so clean i could enjoy the lyrics even without searching for it.
There is footage of him from this year at 66 hitting notes that he could hit 30 years ago, unreal, you just don't see that!
Great video Zach! Eric is the most naturally talented person I have ever known. I'll make sure he sees this.
Thanks! I hope he enjoys it :)
Zach Ansley he certainly did!
@@andretonelli Greet Mr. Adams from a fan in Bulgaria. First time I heard Manowar, I was about 3 - 4 years old. My brother a fan of metal brought a cassette tape back in 91/92 of the Fighting the World album. Still have it and love it.
First heard Eric and of course, MANOWAR about 1985, the song 'Gates of Valhalla' and was absolutely blown away and been a fan ever since.
Would love to see the follow up you mentioned you might do with him singing Nessun Dorma. My 1st time seeing them was in 1999 at a festival in Milan when he first performed it and it blew my mind. So many grown men crying in the crowd.
This is Eric Adams far from his prime. He's astonishingly 66 years old now (I didn't realize he was that old until I just looked it up) and I would suspect this is concert is quite recent. This song came out in 1992 (the studio version). It would be interesting to analyze how well he sung this same song on that 1992 live tour promoting the album. Even better still, you should listen to him singing in the early 80's (his absolute prime). Songs like, "Dark Avenger" and "Battle Hymn" from 1982. That high end could literally shatter glass (a la Geoff Tate, circa 1981-1987).
He's 64, Wikipedia was recently messed up, He's not 66
His live performance in the early days was a little inconsistent from the live videos I have listened to, I would say his best days were the 90s and early 2000s
Dan Maler they did not play this song live until 2002 ;-) in 1992 and 1994 they did heart of steel, but it was amazing 😉
Tate in 81 ...
You sound like a skull was made of crystal glass, or had And aluminum plate at the top of his mouth, he could project so piercingly.
I would stand right next to him in the practice Barn a few times, and listen and watch carefully, I could not figure out how he did that
@@StaticYonder Whatever dude, you missed my point.
Prof. We all need to listen all the discography.
We need more Manowar in any case.
I'm shaking trying to explain how much these artists moved the emotions inside me, expecially Eric.
They gave me so much in life through their music, i'll always listen to them like the best thing that my heart could listen.
My favourite music for 20 years
First time i watch them was 1989. Last time was 2019 and Eric still sounded amazing. The dude its 70, its amazing
YES ERIC IS THE MAN! One of the best out there if not the best!
69 years, just think about this, 69 years!!! sounds like on the albums right now! that's crazy...
I was on their show in 2022... that's awesome!!! he is one of the 3 best vocalists.
Thank you for the analysis, Eric's voice is amazing, been listening to Manowar since the release of Battle hymns in the early 80's and have listened to thousands of Metal bands since the 1970's, he is a standout as a vocalist, just as Ronnie James Dio, but for some reason he never got the kudos Dio did. Your review was excellent and well balanced, because I believe his range and power are so awesome, yet other vocalists find it intimidating and can be jealous, because it seems so natural and easy for Eric. Listen to his version of Nessum Dorma, on the Warriors of the World album,
I just saw him a month ago with Manowar in Birmingham and he sounded great. He was clearly enjoying how stunned the audience was when hearing his voice and smiled a lot. I have to say I did not expect such a great performance from a 66 year old singer who has been screaming his head off for 40 years.
Now this guy is really underrated. The one of the best.
Eric is the very best singer of all the entire world. No one can reach that beautifullneess
hmmmm, study, watch Eric Adams analysis. Study, watch Eric Adams analysis........I guess I can just study later
Don't worry you'll learn more by watching Zach than from studying
Literally what I'm doing now! 😂
I am a huge manowar fan
Thank you for the analysis!
Hail FROM BRAZIL
Daniel Heiman of Lost Horizon would be nice but finding a high quality video of him singing may be hard
Wow! Your analysis is so much more detailed than others doing the same kind of videos here on UA-cam.
What's more, after almost 40 years of touring and recording there is no substantial vocal decay to be heard from him. They've started playing in the D tuning by the year 2000, but mostly for aesthetic reasons rather than due to his limitations it seems, because the live recordings from 1999 show no problems on his side in hitting E5-A5 notes in almost every song. It seems that his tessitura just lowered with age - he was more trebly in the 80s, but with age he traded that for a more rich baritone lower end, which he started displaying more often later into his career, alongside his insane falsetto.
I've loved Eric's voice since I first heard them in 1997. He is just amazingly talented and gifted, from mellow and clean, powerful, beautiful lows and extreme highs. I wish that in his prime he was also in a progressive side project :). Perhaps it's not too late for an Ayreon guest spot :D
Would be killer if we hear him in an Ayreon album.
osi really 1997 , cmon he’s been around since the early 80s , do the research , and as a fan from the start I just want to respect him always he’s a genius, and the best LIVE singer EVER,
Every new video gets better than the last one, keep it rolling.
When you do the Nessun Dorma song, could you also compare it to the version which James LaBrie did? It would be interesting to compare 2 metal singers' approaches on an opera song, something that they don't do in their careers.
And Mark Boals!
Yeah, do it! That would be awesome!
Eric Adams is everything.
I'm no vocal coach, but even I knew Eric Adams was something special. I'd recommend taking a look at Marco Hietala of Nightwish, also a very talented singer.
We are the hammer of the gods. WE ARE THUNDER WIND AND RAIN!
One of the best analyzing of music I have seen since Ken Tamplin... Fantastic my man 🤘😎🤘
I saw Manowar this March in Germany. Still awesome! :)
I only recently discovered this channel and I must admit that it is a breath of fresh air. Very educational, keep it up, it is very much appreciated! I would love to see the analyses of Blind Guardian, Guns N' Roses, and AC/DC down the road.
Excellent !!! 😎 very balanced and informative 👍Healthy singing technique pointed out against choiches in diction, detail and story telling. You point out the tension between it all very good.👍
He is *really* old here. 55+ You should hear the stuff he sang in his 20's. He took two classes about breath control (I have met him several times). This is also *live*. I would love for you to check him in a song like "Carry On", or "Ride the Dragon". Please do it, you will love it. He also did Nosua Dorma.
Great reaction, thanks for that. The way you analyze his vioce is great. After watching your video I will listen to Manowar in a different way.
Also I want to mention that you are the first one who reacts to Manowar. For me personally it was very important, because Manowar was a part of my life and gave me so many emotions. Of course I grew up and listen to much more genres. But metal and Manowar (and some other metal bands from the 90s) made me the person i am now. i am calm, friendly and of course a guy all the rapper freaks want to punch. :-)
Anyway, I grew up till today without any fights.
Thanks again for this video and your opinion.
Btw... you really need to make a reaction video of "Nightwish - Ghost Love Score". Takle the live version from Wacken.
only this reaction to the video will get you a lot of attention. Your channel will boost like a rocket, trust me.
Stay healthy and keep doing it.
Zach, have in mind that Joey -the bass player, main songwriter and founder of the band, has PHD in musical arts. That can be also related to Erics singing habits.
Loved your analysis of Eric Adam!!
I was 15 back in 83 when I heard Eric. He is one of the best ever. Ronnie Jamed dio, Glenn Hughes, Eric Adams, Rob Holford. End of story!
Stumbled upon this vid while listening some metal & I'm glad I did.
I've always thought, that Eric is the best vocal in the whole metal genre and now I know why.
THANK YOU 👊👌🤘
Eric Adams the best..Titan lite
Fantastic, I've been looking for ages for someone who knows what's what to analyse Eric's voice. Tbh, his early voice (first half of the 80s) was less disciplined but pure like a clarion, just amazing. As the 80s come to a close he probably peaks, uniting that incredible tone with good techniques. Personally I think his overall better performance is in the 1992 album the Triumph of Steel. In the mid 90s his range starts going down, and he introduces a lot of more guttural sounds. It's still him, unmistakably, but that perfect vibrato is gone. The video you analyzed was probably from the late 90s, I'd say anything between 97 and 00. You really should look into the song Gates of Valhalla, perfect example of how versatile his voice was in 1982.
Wilfrid Sephiroth this was from the wotw tour in 2002. He actually sang better live in 2017 than in 2002 😳
Very underrated singer in my mind..been listening to Manowar since 1984. Love the band but can't help but think that Eric would get more credit for his singing if Manowar was not looked at as sought of a joke(not by me just to clarify)band that other than their die hard fans they often not taken seriously. Now for a suggestion for you....Take a look into Jeff Scot Soto he has some very good solo material also sang with Malmsteen/Journey and did a Queen Tribute concert that is impressive. obviously liked your analysis of Eric and will be checking out some more of your videos. METAL IN THE BLOOD!
JSS should have stuck playing real metal, but his love for Journey was too strong. I remember when this came out, I was going "ugh! How could he go from Yngwie to this." Yngwie dropped the ball getting rid of him.
ua-cam.com/video/RLlz2bvrebA/v-deo.html
@@timbrown57 I agree but id say in long run Yngwie would of held him back...Have you heard the S.O.T.O albums 2015/2016 they in my mind are very metal...ua-cam.com/video/LLdWDthAbPU/v-deo.html this off the 2016 album...also Eyes Thanks for reminding me this one i have not heard for so long....fucking love METAL something for all
Eric rules! It's been almost 35 years that I listen to him. There are some old recordings that he sounds phenomenal! He was always one of my favourite singers. I'd love to see a review of Rob Halford as well.
Incredible! So glad somebody on the vocal coach analysis side of UA-cam finally recognised Eric's Immense talent. Bravo sir, Bravo
Another great singer to react to would be Micheal Kiske of Heloween Or Till Lindemann from Rammstein
Finally an analysis about this great singer.. thanks!
MORE OF ERICK ADAMS PLEASE!!!!
Listen to "Each dawn I die", "Blood of my enemies" and "Bridge of death" - not for educational purposes, but for your own pleasure. Eric Adams is incredible!
Eric Adams is in top 3 of best singers of all time..for me only Fredie Mercury can stand by him
Try Axel Rudi Pell - The Temple Of The King(Rainbow´s cover, Live Over Europe)
Singer - Johnny Gioeli
I highly recommend Tommy Kerovik from Kamelot/ Seventh Wonder /Aryreon . I think the seventh wonder stuff is the best.
Yeah, I don't like his Kamelot stuff, but Seventh Wonder is something, especially Long Way Home and Tears for a father.
Eric Adams is definitely one of my all time favorite singers (of course, especially in metal). I rank him with the likes of Freddie Mercury, Ronnie James Dio, Tony Martin and King Diamond.
Maybe you can analyze Ralf Scheepers from Primal Fear
And from Gamma Ray! Heading for tommorow and Lust for Life are both amazing. Would be cool if he analyzed Lust for life in the lust for Live video
@@MrHaaaj Yes, you are right. But i think Ralfs voice matured over the years too. And he uses a special technique bending over with the upper body to produce high vocals. I think that is also not very common. Which Primal Fear live video would be good for an analysis in your opinion? Maybe someone who is a patreon member can suggest Ralf.
HAIL KING ERIC
Another great video, I liked how you showed both sides of the argument while still being clear about what you personally believe. About the Nessun Dorma it would be great to see you analyze Eric singing that song but I would also recommend Sarah Brightman. She is a pop opera singer and she also sang it, I think that would be a good place to really point out the difference in technique between the styles of singing.
Eric Adams sang a duet with Sarah Brightman called "Where Eagles Fly", and it was incredible, but for some reason it was not officially released. There used to be a video of it on UA-cam, but apparently it was removed. But I found it on a Russian video site.

David Coverdale
I dont see David analysis much
Prime eric adams lasted during 80s and 90s and early 2000s, his voice was second to none in metal
NICE! Do some more up-tempo from him, like the Warriors Of The World United LIVE, would be amazing to hear your views
one of the best singers and the greatest metal bands! Shame you didn't find a video of Kingdom Come, that would have been awesome.
Master of the Wind is one of their few ballad songs and very melodical, similar to many Scorpion songs.
Please bear in mind that he’s been belting out metal songs for about an hour before this song.
Eric is the best .....
Best singer in HM
Eric has italian origins, and he's a fan of opera. He is one of the best metal singers alongside Halford, Dickinson, Tate, Mercury.
And then there's Dio.
I suggest an analysis about Marco Hietala. Would be quite interesting!
i would love to see you react to heart of steel by manowar !
Great stuff man.
I think one to put on the list is Einar Solberg of Leprous. The guy has an amazing and unique way of singing. Any performance from Live at Rockefeller, but Third Law, Slave, The Price or The Flood are just awesome.
I've been trying to set up an interview with him for a while now (and with Ross Jennings of Haken), but they keep falling through. I love Einars voice, but I would rather talk to him directly than analyze him, if possible!
If you can get an interview, that would be so sweet. Not to mention another way to grow your channel! If there's one thing prog lovers do well, it's analyse EVERYTHING about their bands, so "Vocal Coach Interviews Leprous Singer" will be like good quality cocaine to them.
So when the Nessun Dorma review?
The best male voice ever.
Really don't like the band's music besides few songs but still give them a listen once in a while only for his outstanding voice...Great analysis btw!
The last thing I expected was someone saying Eric is on Dio's level... don't get me wrong, Eric is my favorite singer... but I didn't know how good he was technically. All my doubts have been cleared, obviously.
A nice surprise.I'd like to watch your review of one of his aggressive songs.
Thanks for the video
