I was a Support Manager for Walmart from 2003-2007 and it was the mist miserable time in my entire life. The company really started going downhill after John Walton died in 2005 and even though I stuck it out until 2013 leaving is the best thing that i did. As far as your channel declining goes I have been unsubscribed by UA-cam three times and I didnt realize it until you mentioned the poll. I checked and sure enough I was no longer subscribed. If this video hadn't showed up in my suggestions I never would have known it. I'm looking to see more .243 content since thats what Im going to be reloading for in the near future.
@@rogerf7265 that’s crazy, I wonder why that keeps happening. There will definitely be more 243 content, stay tuned.
I’m glad that you’re here to make videos for us to watch and learn from . Thanks for what you do!

Excellent selection in rifle choice and cartridge! 7-08 is a great cartridge.
@@johnkaraphillis754 thank you!
A series on forggoten cartridges by you would be something I would look for
@@westleyjohn87 interesting idea, thanks!
7-08 is a ballistic twin to 7x57. Either case, within 1gr of powder capacity.
The twist is fine. Your case capacity means shooting something large like 175gr drops your velocity to 303 British or 30/40 krag velocity.
Stick to 120- 150gr range.

Congrats on the tikka. I have seven of them including 7-08 my go to though is the 300wsm. I love my tikka lite stainless in 7mm-08 can’t go wrong with it. I also added a limbsaver recoil pad and a spring kit now it goes down to 1.5lb trigger pull. I use 139gr SST and 162gr ELDx hand loads
I think I’m going a similar route. I might try Backfire’s recoil pad.
@@hopefulballistics that’s a fair choice. I’d have look into them if they had existed when I bought the gun
By the way, I recommend you clean that barrel before shooting. Several of my Tikkas had packaging dust/debris in the barrel. I just push 3 wet/solvent patches, then use a new brush for 10 strokes, then 3 wet solvent patches, 2 dry, 1 with Kroil, one dry, shoot

I enjoy your laid back style and honest reviews. Own two tikkas that are very accurate and not picky. My 708 is a Weatherby that was just ok until I free floated it
Now as accurate as a Tikka. Like it so much tjat bought a wood stock and finished, pillar bedded and bedded recoil lug. Enjoyed the process and it is one of a kind. Hope you enjoy the new rifle as much as i do mine.

I have a idea for a video, it may end up being several for you. I've often wondered about point of impact shift on second focal plane scopes. I grew up sighting in at 25yrds and then moved out to 100 to get it zeroed. I was always told to leave it on 4 power or close to the lowest Zoom setting. Then I was all set for deer season. A few times, I've had someone want to check out my rifle and zoom it out to Max, and I wouldn't notice it until it was too late and I would miss the shot opportunity. It has happened a few times when the scope was only turned up 3/4 zoom, and I would miss completely at a range (150-200yrds)that I should have been dragging a deer out. I've always wanted to see the POI shift on a rifle that was sighted in for 100 yards on 4 power and then zoom it out to 16 and see where the POI is at different ranges. 100,150,200 and see just how far a hunter can miss by just having his/her zoom on the wrong setting.
Hmmmm, I appreciate the idea
This is something i have been researching lately. So, after all this explanation about how holdovers and ranging functions fail when you change magnification, then how do second focal plane scopes work at all? It’s because those functions are calibrated to work at a single magnification level, usually the maximum magnification setting on the optic. So, if you’re using a second focal plane 3-9x or 5-20x scope (or any other), before you use the reticle to adjust for holdover, you’ll need to quickly zoom up the power level to the maximum setting and then get to work. You can also get into math and perform conversions for holdovers and range calculations at different power levels. Since everything is proportional, it’s not hard. To me, it’s far easier to spin the magnifying ring up and work the scope as designed. Besides, you’ll have a clearer view of the target anyway. The benefits of a second focal plane reticle are that you can have a finer and more precise reticle design that works at any magnification level. The drawbacks are that range estimation and holdover marks are only valid at a designated power setting, usually full magnification. You’ll have to remember to switch to full power before using the reticle for holdover and ranging. cheers.
You’re good solid dude! I do enjoy a lot of your videos.
I’m tired of 6.5 CM videos. The 7-08 I believe is over looked. I believe the 7-08 is a real performer.
Real pleased to watch and learn what it’s going to do in a Tikka which I also really like.
This is a great combo!
I appreciate your sharing as well. Very down to earth open and humble.

I'm partial to the mighty .22. I'm currently tinkering with the 22 creedmoor but not as far along as I'd like, but I'm getting closer to sending rounds down range. It'll be nice to see future videos with your new Tikka. The twist rates on their website are correct, it's the new SKUs. They've increased the twist rates over the last few years. All the 30s are 1-10" and all the 7s are 1-9". I have a super lite 7mag from a few years ago that is 1-9.5".

I look forward to your content with the Tikka in 7mm08 - I've never owned a Tikka but I have friends who have them and I've looked at them - they seem to be a very good quality rifle. Everything I've heard about them has been great except for the feel of the synthetic stock. A different recoil pad is a worthwhile upgrade. The trigger is one of the very best in a factory rifle IMHO. I think you'll be pleased with it.
Kudos to you for leaving Walmart. I haven't heard good things about the way employees are treated there. I get my motor oil among other odds and ends there and that's about it. Woohoo Tikka 708! I have one now, a Compact. Have a bid on another. I do recommend a trigger spring from Anarchy Outdoors or Mountain Tactical. Will take about 3 min to swap out. Also a Limbsaver recoil pad. Those are the only mods a Tikka needs really. I prefer 9.5 twist for 708.
YODAVE spring is best for a tikka ...I got a mcarbo n mountain tactical and the yo Dave is noticeably lighter and limbsaver is good but the Backfire pad is way to go
@@Accuracy1st thank you, I’ll be looking into this!
Good choice , Tikka usually runs a 1:9.5 twist. Great rifles but there twist rates are a little odd and could use a update. That being said my 7mm will stabilize a 175gr bullet with no issues. Actually both my 7mm like the heavy bullets.
What’s your elevation?
@@hopefulballistics it really varies where I hunt from 2950 - 3900 + feet. Where I sight in at is about 3000 feet.
Congratulations! I know you have been wanting a 7mil 08 for a good while. I love my Tikka in 308 win. I did put a Limb Saver recoil pad on it because whatever reason it has more recoil than my 3006.
@@TomL3grandsons interesting, thanks
I hope to hear more about your riton optic as well.
Yes, it’s mounted on my 243. After I use it more I’ll talk about it.
I prefer 1-9 twist for my 280AIs. I think that's a bit fast for a 708 unless your goal is long heavy bullets. I am a believer of using the slowest twist rate that will stabilize a bullet as it seems to be proven that's the most accurate way to go. I bounced into the whole FAST twist rate craze for about a year and have already moved back to what I know works and is needed. I don't like sacrificing any velocity just to turn up RPMs on a bullet that aren't necessary.
Factory ammo has done so well in my 708 that I haven't spend much time at all handloading for it. I did put together some 150 or 140 Nosler Ballistic Tip loads that impressed me for accuracy and speed. I had to use my 308 dies with a smaller bushing and just put a 7mm seating stem in the seating die.
@@Accuracy1st good comment, thanks

Another great video!! Question for you Joe...what catridge, in your opinion, would you select for if you had only one you could shoot for a couple of years. I lost all my guns in a house fire. My choices would be 6.5 cm, 6.5 prc, 7mm 08 or 308 win. I was leaning 6.5 cm based on ammo and firearm selection, as i will only be shooting factory ammo for now. Thanks and have a great day! Congrats on the career move!!
Thank you. Best all around of the 4 you mentioned would be 7mm/08 imo. 6.5 prc would be excellent as well just not as wide of a range of bullets weights. 308 and 6.5 cm are more available and common. Honestly you can’t go wrong with any of them, but 308 is probably my choice if I could have only 1.
7mm-08 is tailor made for whitetail. Great cartridge
What powders are you thinking of trying with it?
Just to throw a few out there. Superformance, Hunter, Big Game, Staball 6.5, W748, etc. Depending on the weight.
@hopefulballistics I've had pretty good luck with IMR4451 for 120 grain and 139 grain soft points.
I'd like to see a discussion on the 22arc or 6mmarc in a bolt action like the howa 1500 mini action in general, but also curious about increasing the pressure up to 60k-62k psi if the action can handle it and potentially get closer to a 243win performance for the 6mmarc for example.
I’d like to see that too.
@hopefulballistics I guess semi-auto developed cartridges in general when being used in a bolt action, are the designs maxing the pressure limits or is it the common platform like an ar that is limiting the pressure? The 6arc is only 150-200fps slower and that's with lower psi. I'm looking at that round as a deer round for kids since 6mm is the minimum diameter here and they can train more with lower recoil.
Tikka t3x 7mm08 that we have likes accurate 4064 with 139's and 162eldx
