If you want to hear some solo Freddie one of his last projects was an opera album called Barcelona with the famous opera singer Montserrat Caballe. They did a song called Barcelona which is the epitome of theatrics. It was was one of the first ever rock Opera collabs out there.
...and of course off the Barcelona album, Exercises in free love (which is a Freddie only vocal) which he did to show Montserrat Caballé the part he would like her to sing and the finished song, Ensueño (Dreaming) both are spectacular as is Barcelona, which Freddie wrote as an homage to Montserrat's home city especially for her!
This is simply a gorgeous song and the Way Freddie controls his voice throughout is absolutely stunning. Excellent performance of this song, Thank you for reaction to this live version. This was a new song so the band hadn't recorded it yet so they decided that Freddie would do it by himself with just the piano. This was a free concert at Hyde Park at the end of a tour to thank all of their home fans for all their support. There were at least 150,000 people at this concert. What a thrill it would have been to be there.
Now listen to the album version. I always imagined this was how Freddie presented this song to the band. Then Queen recorded their version of it. Both are beautiful in their own way.

Freddie never said who he wrote it for, the two most likely subjects are his lover David Minns and his lover Mary Austin. There will never be another Freddy. Also..... "All dead"

There is just something about just Freddie and the piano that makes this already haunting song even more intimate…it works its way into your soul somehow. I am just grateful that it was recorded for everyone to see.
This was at a special free Queen concert in Hyde Park, London. About 400,000 people showed up, more than expected. Local authorities pulled the plug on the power early because they were afraid things would get out of hand. Our 4 boy geniuses were hustled into a van & whisked away, not too happy about it.💙

The whole band at various times branched out and did their own thing, (Roger Taylor's The Cross, The Brian May Band, John Deacon's Immortals and of course Freddie's solo work) but they always returned to what they referred to as "The Mother Ship".
The story of Queen, with Freddie at the center, is without doubt compelling. Each band member has a story and there is a different color thread between each of them. This song that night was for a lover sitting in that crowd...imagine that hitting you and you can't let out a scream.
Freddie did have solo albums outside of Queen and they’re brilliant. After you’ve gone through Queen material which I hope continues, you should check out his solo work. Especially, his work with Montserrat Cabellé

In 1978 Queen played their News Of The World concert at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood California. I was 19 and the concert was great. They opened with We Will Rock You.

He had such a powerful voice. I remember I saw them live for the News of The World tour (so 1977 or 78), he went off pitch at one point. But even though it was a mistake, the wrong pitch was done with such power it was impressive.
This is one of the few live performances I’ve heard him hit all the high notes. He usually sang an alternative lower note ducking the “difficult” stuff. This is really impressive. Glad I got to see it

But even in the early days he used to cheat a little, not like at Live Aid where he literally didn’t sing one song like it is on the album unless it was an easy one from the 80s maybe. But this performance proves he can do it. As a fan it always bothered me when he wouldn’t do it live. At least this proves he COULD…..at least in 1975

But recording in a studio with as many breaks as you want and replicating we are the champions after a 2hr live set is impossible. All good singers know their limits and how much they can risk and push their voice over a long period before it tires and you start losing pitch. He was a master at it.

Freddie would doubtless have had a prolific solo career on-the-side, as well. ....Freddie wrote this song "You take My Breath Away" for his would-be first boyfriend, David Mann. (It was during this time that Fred would confess his gay sexuality to his fiancée Mary Austen/breaking off their engagement.) Freddie had been wooing him... I am not sure how accurate the movie about him Bohemian Rhapsody is, but I absorbed it, ya'll should watch. like I said, how so much I did not know, that conert for Liive Aid was EPIC! I watched on tv at my Dads as it happened, no, is wasn't hd and the screen was far from 70 inches, but the impact was the same , I knew some things but back then there was no internet, and I am 66...and I loved their music and his voice and stage presence, he was born to be a performer..and he did it...the worst thing about gettin old is the longer you live the more people you lose....such is life! Yes, in the mid seventies they were at their highest level and the most interesting rockband ever. Freddie is still praised for his charisma, showmanship and singing abilities,..........but as a songwriter he was really out of this world. His catalogue is absurd.
Has anyone recommended The Lovin' Spoonful for 60s reactions? They have many very catchy tunes, but I think they were AM radio stars at a time when FM dominated popular music. You might recognize John Sebastian's voice from his theme song to the 80s TV show Welcome Back Cotter.

I was a huge Queen fan in the 1970s. Frankly, I never cared for their big hits that came after 1976. Songs like "You Take My Breath Away" are from what I consider their best period. But not everyone agrees.
Hell yes! The first 3 queen albums are my absolute favorites. The next two albums are good too. I’m lukewarm on the late 70s stuff and absolutely hated the 80s/synthesizer/mustache era.

I watched on tv at my Dads as it happened, no, is wasn't hd and the screen was far from 70 inches, but the impact was the same , I knew some things but back then there was no internet, and I am 66...and I loved their music and his voice and stage presence, he was born to be a performer..and he did it...the worst thing about gettin old is the longer you live the more people you lose....such is life! Ya'll really should watch that movie, the acting, to me was incredible and, like I said , I do not how accurate it is but it is Amazing

Yes, in the mid seventies they were at their highest level and the most interesting rockband ever. Freddie is still praised for his charisma, showmanship and singing abilities,..........but as a songwriter he was really out of this world. His catalogue is absurd.

Has anyone recommended The Lovin' Spoonful for 60s reactions? They have many very catchy tunes, but I think they were AM radio stars at a time when FM dominated popular music. You might recognize John Sebastian's voice from his theme song to the 80s TV show Welcome Back Cotter.
Funny that you mentioned THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW …… Did you know that Freddie was offered the part of Frankenfurter? He turned it down three times. Tim Curry took on the role & made pop cult history. Tim Curry & Freddie were good friends, too! 😁
I was a huge Queen fan in the 1970s. Frankly, I never cared for their big hits that came after 1976. Songs like "You Take My Breath Away" are from what I consider their best period. But not everyone agrees.

Hell yes! The first 3 queen albums are my absolute favorites. The next two albums are good too. I’m lukewarm on the late 70s stuff and absolutely hated the 80s/synthesizer/mustache era.
