My First Casio Was From the Late 1970s and It Wasn't A Watch

- At the start of the 1970s it was unheard of for folks to have picket-sized calculators but, by the end of the decade, they were everywhere. (It was a decade of tremendous change, especially when it came to anything with an LED or LCD readout.) Before Casio was well-known for making watches the company was known for making calculators. So it's no surprise that my first calculator was a Casio. But I'd forgotten that fact until just a few weeks ago when I was looking for some computer repair tools in my archives and I found this Casio Micro Mini calculator. Of course, I remembered that I had a tiny calculator in the late 1970s but, at the time, I didn't really take note of who made it. It was similar to most of the common calculators of its day except for the fact that it was so small. These days I have over a hundred Casio products in my collection. Most are watches. But it's worth noting that this little calculator was, in fact, the first Casio product I ever had.
So, in this video, I pay tribute to the first calculator I ever had, which was likely a Christmas gift in 1977 or 1978 (or possibly as late as 1979). This one still works, using a button cell A76 or LR44 battery. If memory serves, I first saw it in a display case at a store called Service Merchandise in the suburbs of Chicago. It was just irresistibly cute and that's why I asked for it as a Christmas present. I think but was a good choice.
my father had a casio watch and casio calculator during the '80s. I still remember taking his watch of his writs and putting it on mine (I was only, maybe 5 years old). This video made me nostalgic...
the watch was digital, with bracelet and had a marlin on the crystal. the calculator had a case. My father also had a slide rule... for 10 minutes I went back in time.
Very nice! In 1979, bought a check book cover with a Casio calculator attached. Still use it today. It’s stored in my briefcase.

"Abacus ? Where we're going, you don't need an abacus. "
I always wanted Casio calculator watch because of “Back to the Future” for many years and I only managed to finally get it a year ago and needless to say, I’m very overjoyed when it finally arrived.
They have Revamped the Casio Calculator Watch with a few NEW colors-I like wearing mine as a Retro to the Apple Watch others wear. My first Calculator watch Dad bought me was made in Korea-where the last one about 9 years ago says China. The batteries last 5 years although my second ones still ticking. Dad had a retro strap as backup so I put that on watch two-& will do same for watch one, when Marty was top of the world.
I thought a Casio calculator was a wonderful thing to have 👍 thanks good video
I feel connected to the calculators. The copy cats just made too many crappy ones. It was the best ones early on.
I have a collection of calculators too!
My school uses Casio calculators.
I used to have the "50M" Casio watch. Does anyone know what model it is?
Still got mine, must be an older version as its got the blue Leds instead of Lcds.
