I also saw him with Joe Satriani...mind blowing back in the late 80's early 90's. He and Billy Shehan were light years ahead of most bassists at the time. Both have played with Joe and Billy with Steve Vai.
SRV TEXAS FLOOD "LIVE" AT EL MACOMBO. I've been playing guitar since 1963 and that is by FAR the greatest guitar performance I've ever seen. Watch that and you'll see why some consider him the greatest of all time
Stu is one of the most prolific bassists ever and this is a great solo, but if you want to see one of the best bass solos ever check out Billy Sheehan. You will be blown away!
Subscribed! Its off topic, but as someone who just listened to the entire Dream Theater discography for the first time as a part of a personal music appreciation project, I don’t think you had 3 really optimal tracks to listen to as a first experience with them. You might have gotten some pieces of their flavor, but there are better tracks. Come back to DT for a couple more tracks … from how you’ve commented, you might especially like the Count of Tuscany. Others I especially liked from my experience and would recommend: Pull me Under, Never Enough, the Root of All Evil, Prophets of War, In the Name of God, Octavarium, As I Am, In the Presence of Enemies Pt 1, The Enemy Inside, The Ministry of Lost Souls, The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun … though there are many. Stumbled on your channel and have been watching a lot of your videos! Keep it up!
@@ChasingAnthems Stu does some things like that for the crowd but is a legit great bass player (you might also check another track from one of his solo albums - ua-cam.com/video/NmP9aRHg4WI/v-deo.html). The link for Mr. Big - "Addicted To That Rush" (ua-cam.com/video/GoSD0DLQII0/v-deo.html). Speaking of Mr. Big you also need to check out their former lead guitarist who is very well known - Paul Gilbert with "Paul vs Godzilla" (ua-cam.com/video/QoBWZ8EnQM4/v-deo.html)...enjoy!
All these new guys you mentioned wouldn't be around without Stu setting the bar. I mean, he's got 10 fingers and only used 9 of them, the other one only anchored his hand. Lame.
In his time, there wasent many better.. He was considered probably top 5 IMHO .. But your right, Today there are others who are as good if not better..
I saw stu hamm with jo satriani on the surfing with the aliens tour. The man is so talented, masters so many different styles.

Billy Sheehan... any live performance...brilliant!

Bro you want to see a power trio. Asterism with the song "Rising moon" or 'Dawn" live.
Jaco Pastorious & Stanley Clarke
For bass mastery you need to check out Les Claypool.
