Ice-fishing in Mongolia I SLICE
Вставка

- In the snow-covered plains of northern Mongolia live the Tsaatan nomads. They rely on fishing to gain a meager existence, but the lakes in the taiga are shallow and the ice thick. So they have to come up with an idea to spot the fish and catch it.
Sticks, nets and a bunch of joyful experts: that’s all it takes to do it. It may not be the greatest catch, but they’re surely having fun. And if it ends with a family diner by the fire under the tent, what more could we want?
We followed these Mongolian fishermen in their methodic, unusual and peaceful fishing process. A fishing trip in Tsaatan territory…

I am Mongolian and I've thought that reindeer Dukha people speak more of paleo-Siberian or Turkic dialects but when I listen to them they speak more like Mongolian dialect. But probably it is somehow recent transformations of their language
You know, finding a Mongolian comment is very rare.
@@invalidaccount6147 Really? Actually, I have seen some below.
They had me when they showed up riding the Danm deers with huge racks 👏👏
I guess Rudolph has a day job

Same here. This is my first time seeing a man riding in a raindeer
So peaceful. It's beautiful to see people living simplistic and patient lifestyles. Very refreshing and calming.
Sungguh sangat bahagia mereka tidak mengenal Amerika
Mongolia is my dream country to be in. Love from 🇪🇹
Suppose anywhere would do you..'
They deserved to catch more for all that hard work.
Yeah, kinda like crabs, more work than the calories you get from it.
🤓🍻
thats how fishing is tho, maybe from time to time they catch some good fish(bigger) but there are times when they fish only a handful or nothing.
and to think that thousands of years ago these people conquered and ruled most of the earth :/
They will probably reuse the holes. It looks similar to it’s done in Scandinavia by those few who winter fish with nets
@Jack Gull gfy
these people value what they have and appreciate it
This was Beautiful! I can't believe their dedication, wow and here Some of us think that, we've done something out of Ordinary, by going Steelhead or Salmon fishing in the Rain or Cold winter day!! I'm Sure no Cold weather that I've experienced, comes even Close to their Extreme cold!! Can Someone at "SLICE", tell me, what species of fish that was, to me with limited View, it looked like either a Salmonid or maybe an Unusual "Strain"/Race of Arctic Char!! I'll formally give Credit in a book that I'm writing!! Thanks 😊
This is in Khuvsgul. So it should be one of the lenok, salmon or sturgeon. We call them “white fish”. But I don’t know much about fish. So I don’t know 😅

The same technique is used in Northern Quebec by Innu and Naskapi First Nations.
They are Mongolian descendants
Great people 👏
and to think that thousands of years ago these people ruled most of the earth...
what the hell happened?
Extremely cold, hard , tough and exhaustion ways of living . Most of all they find Happiness, Simplistic and Joyfulness ! 💕👍🙏

Somebody tell them to use their Bass Pro credit card points and get an auger and some tip ups🤷♂️
Ermmmmmm, no bud.
Skip all that. They just need to run over to Costco and buy some fish. Duuuuuhhh
Как тысячу лет назад😊🇷🇺
Hard work , endegeneous technique of fishing by nomad Mongolians!
What a survival humans have 😍
They are just having fun. They were saying it is good that ice is not that thick here and telling each other instructions such as push to the right , to left. Seems quite a team work. 😁
these guys need a frabill sponsorship, give them rods fish finders ice shelters and a lil buddy heater! i bet they would catch way more if they used a rod and jigged.
they need ghengis khan.
As an avid ice fisherman I agree but when you show up on a reindeer it doesn't matter if you catch any fish or even fish at all. You have already won.
I am so happy that I have a fish market near my house
These people call themselves as "Tsaatan" but they are termed as "Dukha Turks" by anthropologists. I'm from Turkey and I caught common words occasionaly when they were speaking. They've kept our original lifestyle and stayed close to our ancestral homeland in eastern Siberia (Orkhon). We've moved westward and settled in Anatolia, our Turkic dialect (Oghuz Turkic) taken many loanwords from the neighboring people, so much so that we cannot communicate with the original Turks nowadays.
I just love these documentaries.
The guy singing while he works makes me so happy 🥺
So beautiful and peaceful
If you don't eate you will get cold very fast and it won't be peaceful and beautiful anymore.
These people experiences life as Jesus envisioned, Not withstanding the face they still believe their traditional beliefs, It's very very strange how Russia deny itself from passing the laws which will in time make their traditional ways evaporate even making them hate their ways of day to day life, Back in Africa my Luo traditional ways of life have been long gone, I remember when I was young anyone who didn't go to school was a laughing stock, Its hard to fight modern temptation because wanting is one of the core stimulant in our DNA, Wanting controls ,,,,,, but these people mentality if not forced the want clause doesn't impress them at all, You live your life whilst we will live ours, Watching them I came to respect hard work and thanking the lord that he has allocated undiminished wealth for all us that is living space and FOOD,
Да уж.!!! А монгольское мясо самое дорогое в мире !!!
7:58 that smile, its contagious! 😊
This is wicked cool! Possibly salmon with the forked tails
I kinda wanna travel there and bring them some ice fishing gear from Minnesota...
🙌🙌🙌 up why so good in narrating 😉..great videos 👍
There is another method of pulling a net under the ice that was used in North American. It is using a diver board that when pulled heads down at a steep angle and then floats up at a slant away from you. You keep working it until you can get the string at the other hole and then use it to pull the net . Having ice you can see through is pretty important hear either way. Guess you could also make the second hole when you have reached your extent instead of having to steer it to hit an existing hole.

I had no idea you could domesticate a reindeer to the point of riding and using them for work.

Riding a reindeer must be soooo cool rather than a horse.
What the Hell ! How SMall Are Mongolians ? goddamn if i were to sit up/down on one of those theyl fuckin DIe ! Reindeers ARE SMALL ! REAL SMALL SO SMALL IVE STOPED EATING THEM (mostly because i dont like the swedish sapmi/natives that have "dibs" on the reindeers ... ) the mongolians got to be around 3-4 feet right ? goddamn 11 seconds in and my brain snapped ! / Paul Roger Nilsson -Nortern Sweden

How do the fish get more oxygen under the ice?
When people see this they think the are suffering.. tho it wrong lot of people live to live in cold places and in this mode. Look at Philadelphia what is better? This people want to live like this tho to be able to survive the need lill help specially with medicine. This is how we have lived inany generation's.

well netting is againts law in mongolia
Great fishing way
Now that's blast freezing your catch right there no chance those fish would spoil.
I’m from Minnesota and have ice fished all my life. This is outstanding ‘technology’. However, I’m not sure how badass cold it is. You can’t see their breath. The air has to be incredibly dry. And around a lake and woods, that’s doubtful. It’s a mistake movies make all the time.
That said, these men are badass anyway.
@@dejavu666wampas9 It is windy so that is probably why you don’t see their breath
@@dejavu666wampas9 also mongolia is inland, it does not have a coastline. So less moisture. Anyway it is below freezing with a lot of wind, so it is definitely cold enough to freeze the fish
@@eveneeee -Good points all. Internet civility is a thing for me, so thanks for being civil and not calling me names or telling me to go to hell.
Below freezing I’ll grant you. BLAST freezing, as the OP stated, is a stretch. Maybe you’ll get blast freezing, but I’m not sure. I’ve ice fished when it was pretty cold, and it took a bit for the fish to freeze. For sure, these guys are getting blasted by the wind.
I’ve got no beef with the OP; sorry if I offended you, Mr Coughlan. Actually, I’d be interested to know if you pronounce your name rhyming with ‘cough’, or with ‘cog’.
Let’s all go have a beer and a sandwich.
Энд нэг гоё авчих гээд бна гэж үнэн хэлжээ
All that for 4 fish. Not worth it
во первых монголы не едят и не ловят рыбу соответственно,это наши дядьки и речь проскакивает русская
Humans are super intelligent...our survival instinct is our secret weapon
This does not appear to be a very productive method for ice fishing.
