  • The Snowdonia Slate Trail takes a step back in time to when North Wales was the centre of the Slate Trade. Covering 83 miles the trail visits some of the less-frequented but beautiful parts of Snowdonia, passing through all the major mountain ranges, offering a range of experiences from mountain to forest, lake to river, from the valley to the sea.
For this adventure, we join the Slate Trail at Blaenau Ffestiniog to discover the industrial heritage remaining on the quarries of Diffwys and Rhosydd. Hiking over 15 miles we discover abandoned Mills and the remains of quarrymen's barracks high in the mountains all surrounded with the beautiful scenery of the Snowdonia National Park.

As always Nick, thank you for your efforts on this vlog. Gorgeous photography and it looked like a wonderful weekend. I visited there with the scouts from London - 57 years ago and I still remember how magical the place was. I plan to do this trip next year, but once again, thank you. Fantastic film ❤️

Another superb vlog Nick. Im sitting in the basement at the moment watching it lol. I worked in Blaenau Ffestiniog years ago at the Hydro powerstation working inside the huge pipes that take water from the upper reservoir.
When i arrived in the area I couldn’t believe the height of waste slate heeps. I actually looked at that site for next year but i’m looking for fully serviced pitches. It’s a stunning area around there.
Can’t imagine how hard that work was. Welsh and Scottish slate was the best in the world at one time.

@@johnstewart2507 Welsh was the best🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿😂. I’m the same with fully serviced pitches but occasionally I will sacrifice one for a particular location. When our paths eventually cross you can tell me all about it. I had originally included more details on the pipes in the script but had to take it out as the I didn’t have enough supporting video.

I dunno mate Ballachulish slate is the best 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 😂😂😂 we can debate that over a few drams sometime 😂 happy to talk about my time working there i actually crawled all the way into the turbine lol it was amazing to see. I just wish i had the time to explore the area i love looking around old buildings and stuff. Hoping to do that next year even if it’s just to get on the wee railway. It’s looking like Harlech and Conwy areas next year. Look forward to your next vlog mate keep em coming even my daughter has subscribed she enjoys your adventures also lol

@@johnstewart2507 Harlech and Conwy are absolutely stunning. The main touring park in Harlech is the Min Y Don which is below the Castle. Stayed there lots of times but the hidden gem is the CL called Allt y Mor. Both offer fully serviced pitches. Lots to see and do in and around Conwy and it’s where I grew up. Plenty of touring parks to choose from in the area 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Was looking at Min y Don and also Barcdy touring caravan and camping park for the Harlech area . Going to book Plas Farm for Conwy also going to book a stop over on the way down as it’s a fair drive probably around Chester somewhere. Both stunning areas and your vlogs helped in choosing where to go 👍🏻

Thank you once again Nick for all the effort you put into making these videos. I overlook the Malvern Hills which makes a great back drop to the morning cuppa, you should try them out one day, there is a Caravan & Motorhome Club site close by.

Thanks for that recommendation. I’m familiar with the area as the Malverns are a popular location for paragliding. However I’ve overlooked them for Basecamping and hiking. Thanks for the nudge. I will check the site out👍🏻

Another cracking adventure Nick, beautifully filmed as usual. I can appreciate your comments about being humbled by what our ancestors went through - it’s difficult to understand how tough life would have been in those early Industrial Revolution days. I loved how your dog awoke from her deep sleep when you were dishing up your sausage dinner, nothing beats a Cocker Spaniels sense of smell 😉. Looking forwards, as usual, to your next adventure 👍
