I have a jetboil Flash, minimo, and mighty mo, but still want a zip 😅, the Oex heiro is better for around half the price, but I'll still find reason to get 1. Stove issues
Thanks for your content. I really enjoyed it, and the price list, is a bonus for I now have good ideas, especially since I'm on a budget!
Another great video , keep the adventures coming 😊
Great Information I enjoyed the content I have one question to ask why don't you fit a microwave oven?
@@Nobbysuper7 we don’t use a microwave at home so I guess that’s why.
I'm looking at the base camp mainly due to your videos!! do you park nose in first with awning out to the front ? Or mainly back door first. Only thing that puts me off them is the back door rather than on the side does it bother you at all.
@@lukejack56 I park the caravan in the direction of the best view. With regards to the backdoor, the caravan was designed this way so bikes can be stored and transported. Personally I love the design as this opens up the space inside. It’s personal preference so maybe go have a look at one however the caravan doesn’t need to be a Basecamp to get out and enjoy the delights of camping adventures.
Best view sounds like the best plan.
Nick, have you refined your packing technique at all since your early days? As the best Basecamp vlogger it would be good to go over some of the more mundane packing/checklist/setting up stuff again. IMO Money for old rope, but YT algo loves revisiting stuff 😉
@@minibigs5259 that’s an interesting idea. Thank you. I will give that some thought.
Hi, we recently bought our first Base Camp and find your vlogs really helpful. We’re on a seasonal pitch throughout the winter and wonder whether you think the RVA1 or the Dometic Pro 200 would stand up to the winter weather best? Many thanks for all your help so far!
@@TonyWilliamson-s6k both of those awnings are very strong when pitched correctly. However, for the winter storms we get in the UK I would take the awning down.
Thank you for your help, that’s fab!
There’s several reports on the FB group of leaking Basecamps. I’m guessing from joins in the body construction, doors and windows.
Water ingress can be a problem in all leisure vehicles. The troublesome areas in a Basecamp ‘can’ be the infinity window and the back door. The latter though in earlier models. The actual joints in the construction are impervious to water ingress by the nature of the design. This is called Swift SMART construction. Our Basecamp is four years old now, used regularly and has had no issues with leaking.
When do you hope to return to the Isle of Man again. ?
@@lizcox8379 hopefully next summer🤞. My wife and I talk about it all the time. Such a friendly and beautiful place. There is a magic there.
Great video Nick, you have given me some ideas to get into Scotland in October with my BC. What is the navigation app you use.
@@patm8369 The app I use to plan and navigate my hikes is called Outdoor Active. I subscribe to it in order to unlock all the features I need which cost around £30 per year ish.
I’m on Nightshift so just watched this during my break. You’ve had a good season so far and it’s been great viewing. 5 awnings mate 😂😂 you are now officially the awning whisper 😂. Interesting regarding pitches i always go for hard standing with a preference for fully serviced which does limit choice a bit. I have now booked my two weeks holiday in Wales next summer both fully serviced. It just makes it easier. However i do still go to EHU only sites. Do you have anything planned for winter or will it be spur of the moment choices? Great wee vlog Nick 👍🏻
@@johnstewart2507 thanks for your comment John. Got my eye on a run up to Dumfries & Galloway in November and we are going to Plas Farm for a weekend this month.
Dumfries and Galloway is a stunning area Nick you’ll love it make sure and visit the Mull of Galloway its awesome and the lighthouse is amazing you can climb up it, the views are stunning. Portpatrick is bonnie isle of Whithorn is lovely also.
@@johnstewart2507 thanks John. Top quality recommendations especially the Mull of Galloway.
Great video Nick! 👏👏👏 We were going to get rid of our expensive and great quality pole framed full sized Isabella awning in favour of our inflatable porch awning, but found that simply labelling the poles really well so that both me and my partner knew exactly where the poles went - thus being able to put it up quicker, made us rethink. Glad we have kept both. The pole framed awning is far superior in bad weather.
@@graemedawson1509 Great comment👍🏻 If I had a full sized caravan such as coachman of elegance etc I would most certainly have an Isabella awning for it.
Thanks for the reflections Nick. The piece relating to awnings was very relatable. I have purchased 4 different awnings for the California so far and got rid of 3 of them. What I have now works okay but I will only bother with it if I am going to be staying in 1 place for a few days. The perfect scenario is where I just use the wind out awning and avoid the faff.
What a fab year you have had camping wise. Nick, you have been my inspiration to lose a tremendous amount of weight and go camping with my little Caretta and go hiking again despite my knee. So a massive thank you. You are an inspiration to this country by making us discover some fabulous places through your adventures. And thank you for helping me with the measurements of the Portico. Take care.
@@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection that is absolutely amazing feedback. Thank you❤️
We’ve done 3 trips in our base camp and done 3 sites that you have recommended. We’re really enjoying it. We’re getting to know the pros and cons now of the base camp. We have found your UA-cam channel invaluable. Many thanks Lee and Mandy 😊
Fascinating mini review / update of your experiences and lessons learned so far. You’re so right that as we all gain more experience by using our vans we modify where we go, what we do and what we take in or attach to the van. Having been a subscriber since the early days of your channel, I have noticed the considerable improvements in the quality of your vlogs and your cinematography skills 👍 In June this year I went back to a caravan, a 2 berth. I love the Basecamp 2 but I sort of felt it might not provide enough room for me and the 3 dogs (rightly or wrongly!). So my caravan is bigger for that reason but who knows in the future 😊. I’d like to thank you for providing the inspiration through your adventures and destinations which have and will shape my own adventures. Keep up the cracking work Nick. As always I shall be waiting eagerly for your next adventure. Cheers 👍
@@SmiffsBeardies amazing comment. Thank you😊
What’s the range of the Audi when towing, vs solo?
Genuine question - have you watched the video?
@@TangoFourZero Day to day, typically the car has 450 miles range when the petrol tank is full. When we went to Cornwall in the summer towing the Basecamp the drive was 330 miles and I stopped to top up the car with petrol once.
@@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales Thanks, we went to Cornwall this year, 320 miles on a full tank of diesel with 30 miles range left on arrival😱. Range at outset was around 450 I believe, so was interested to know how a hybrid might compare.
@@TangoFourZero something to also consider is the size of fuel tank. My previous car the BMW 320D had a 57 litre diesel tank. The Audi A3 has a 40 litre petrol tank which almost 1/3 smaller.
@@matthewdaly6920 I have, but I didn't hear this question answered, hence why I asked. The reply was interesting as the numbers are very similar to a trip we did this year with a 1.5l diesel.
I'm just dipping my toe (tow LOL) into caravanning and appreciate all the videos you post - great quality and you can see your developing experiences too. Keep up the great work!
@@matthewporter6890 thank you for your comment and good luck with the tow dipping!
Fantastic scenery shots.

As always a great watch. We have been wondering where to go next year and have never been to the Yorkshire Dales but you have wetted our appetite!
@@NigelTerry-o5m its beautiful. I’d never been before either prior to getting the Basecamp.
Another great video. Although I’m biased as a Yorkshireman, it really does look stunning on film.
As always Nick, I didn’t want the vlog to finish? Stunning presentation as always, along with a gorgeous walk. The dogs bring something to your vlogs, which is personal and lovely. Sound quality is so good. Another place on my list to visit now 😩 Have you ever thought about a trip to the south east Nick? Thank you doesn’t seem enough for the time you must spend prepping these vlogs, but thank you anyway. Just outstanding ❤️
@@DavidEastonLondonDL amazing comment. Thank you🙏.
Beautifully made video, thank you 😊
Generic caravan/camper problems... not unique to the the Base Camp.
Well, that’s blown the “it’s grim oop north” saying out of the water. Lovely vlog as usual.
Been here, loved the video. Thank you
Thank you 😍
Absolutely class. Thanks nick.
Absolutely stunning vlog Nick the Yorkshire Dales are another bucket list Area for us to visit. Beautiful scenery and the site looked amazing. Looked like the weather was not too bad also. Superb mate 👍🏻
Thanks John. We got lucky with the weather as the forecasted rains missed the area of the Dales we were in.
I have always liked the look of these vans How strong are the bunk beds are they strong enough for adults
Great to watch as per and the Basecampy bits aren't that bad either 😉
My favourite Vlog. Thinking of getting a base camp myself. Very informative, great scenery, history and campsite info.
@@KarenSmith-li9mb they are a brilliant camper. Thanks for your comment and feedback.
Yet another superb Vlog Nick. Your introduction commentary and imagery was superb. Certainly a stunning walk/hike you put together too👍. Lovely to see the 2 Cockers striding out with their “dads” on the walk. As ever, thanks for the time taken to create your vlog and sharing with us 👍
Absolutely stunning location. How come dogs are not allowed to roam free where you were walking?
@@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection that section of the moors is used for shooting so there are nesting birds in the undergrowth.
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales ah i see. Thanks Nick.
Great Vlog 👍I’m sure our first ever caravan trip was Howgill Lodge in the late 70’s. It was just a sloping grass field back then as I recall. 🤔
@@CaravanWithThatYorkshireChap it’s a stunner. Not the easiest to access over the last few miles in but certainly worth it.
@@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales we remember going to a pub in Appletreewick, the only pub in the UK at the time to not allow smoking. They had jars of cigarette buts on the bar. Gross 😂

@@petra3498 the landscapes are ours and for everyone. Enjoy them when you can❤️

Very useful information thank you 😊
As always Nick, thank you for your efforts on this vlog. Gorgeous photography and it looked like a wonderful weekend. I visited there with the scouts from London - 57 years ago and I still remember how magical the place was. I plan to do this trip next year, but once again, thank you. Fantastic film ❤️
The reason the caravan is often resold is the shock of new owners when they discover the complicated process of packing, hooking up the vehicle, and moving the vehicle.
Hi, i bought a 2020 base Camp a great little caravan. Have just come back from Northumberland quick brake for 4 days. Although i can answer this question i think. When i first took it out for the first time i could not sleep in it and wondered why????? Second time i realised why. The level of fire retardent in the upholstery was making my skin itch and burn!!!! Once i had changed the upholstery ( swapped from my old Bailey) and cleaned the whole interior Twice!! with Bicarbonate of soda and Vinegar + then Soap and water. Got rid of it all, GREAT some people cannot deal with this stuff that is forced upon us ( none smokers).
Can I ask what app you use to sort your hikes please. Love all your videos. Thanks.
@@lizcox8379 it’s called Outdoor Active. I subscribe to the PRO level to unlock all the features I use for planing and navigation. Costs about £30 ish per year.
How beautiful is that stunning scenery 🤩I can only imagine you thoroughly enjoyed that. Thank you for sharing🙏
Thinking about going for one of these. Is the front table big enough to eat a meal on in the van or is there another solution?
@@graemeelliott4147 the small table under the front window is suitable for drinks and phones etc. However, the caravan is supplied with a large table which is stored in the wardrobe which is plenty big enough to enjoy a meal around👍🏻
I don't mind simplicity, but curtains to the windows wouldn't hurt 😏😏
@@michaelfuxeklint4909 it wouldn’t be a Basecamp if it did!
