Basecamp 2 - The last adventure of the year

For this Basecamp adventure, we have planned a two-night trip in mid-December 2024, just before Christmas. We returned to the beautiful Plas Farm Touring Park near Abergele in Betws-yn-Rhos. From there, we hike into the Carneddau Mountain Range to discover the most remote church in Wales, which has a history that predates the medieval castles of Wales by 500 years. Basecamp 2 - Beautiful Anglesey Adventure

In this Basecamp adventure, we return to the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales. Pitching up on the pristine Rhosboeth CL in Benllech, we explore the outstanding Red Wharf Bay, visit Penmon Point famous for Puffin Island, step back 5000 years as we discover the ancient burial monument of Bryn Celli Ddu and hike 7 miles along dramatic cliffs to explore the industrial heritage found at Porth Wen.

This includes my switch from a diesel tow car to a petrol hybrid, my final awning selection for the caravan and letting go of my obsession with fully serviced pitches in favour of more fulfilling adventures.

Basecamp 2 - 'Red Kite' bird of prey adventure

In this Basecamp adventure, we return to Mid-Wales to witness the native Red Kite bird of prey feeding in their hundreds. We pitch up for the weekend at one of the finest touring parks Wales has to offer aptly named the Red Kite Touring Park in the Clweydog Valley. We also enjoy walks along the Clywedog Reservoir which is located a short drive from the campsite.

Another great vlog. Just had my BC2 serviced and can’t wait to start this year’s adventures. Enjoy crackpot hall - locals pronounce Muker as Mewker in case you need to ask anyone! Can recommend CB Inn near Reeth for food if you’re staying in that area.

@@brianbarnes2909 yes I still fly my Paraglider whenever time and conditions allow. I no longer create videos on paragliding as UA-cam is saturated with flying content.
@ Great that you still fly. I have done lots of powered flight, but paragliding must be a completely different experience. I’ll give it a go one day! It’s a beautiful country to explore by land, sea or air.

Yet another fantastic video Nick and covering the app quest I have asked you previously. So I could see you also have OS Maps downloaded, but how does Outdoor Active and OS differ and why do you prefer Outdoor Active? Thanks buddy
@@tonks1968 Outdoor Active is far superior. Easier to plan and navigate on. Rarely use OS maps now other than a back up
Another Excellent and informative Vlog Nick. I’ve Started planing this years trip. Wales is all booked up really looking forward to that trip. Got 2 weeks off in march not sure where to go yet those ones are weather dependent. Inverness in April and thats it so far. Crackpot hall looks amazing maybe i should visit i’d fit right in 😂😂. @@johnstewart2507 Returning to Glen Nevis with the wife and we’ve got tickets on the Jacobite train. A return trip to Morvich is in the plan for 2025 but TBC. You may remember from your time working in Wales that the Ffestinog highland railway runs from Blaenau Ffestiniog with day trips to Porthmadog. That would be great day out for you during your stay. Yes remember the wee train passed right by the hydro station that is definitely on the cards. Glen Nevis is an excellent site as you know and the trip on the Jacobite train is awesome. Mallaig is Bonnie but not much in it a few good places to eat though and an interesting wee museum. If you get a chance there is an excellent museum in Fortwilliam the West Highland Museum it’s well worth a visit and the Cinema next to it has a bistro that does amazing food. Have a great time i love that area.

I love both of my Jetboils. Got a BRS stove, used it twice, and went back to my Jetboil. But the Zip... they removed the best thing about a Jetboil, the piezo.
@@syberphish the Zip is ideal for boiling water and that’s it. Perfect for making a cuppa and preparing dehydrated meals
@@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales My Jetboil Flash is the same, and an older model. They're pretty much JUST for boiling water. But they have a piezo push-button igniter built in, so you don't need any other ignition source. Makes it incredibly simple to use.

Try putting the smaller bed cushions at foot of the bed length not the centre, which is under your main body weight to be moved Empty the chemical loo every day or two - less weight to move and less smelly on discharge.

Thank you for sharing. We tow our Basecamp 2 with a beautiful 2012 Defender - beautiful until someone drove into the front of it a couple of weeks ago. The poor little Basecamp is looking a bit lonely on the drive by itself. We should be back up and running soon and in the meantime we can enjoy an adventure second hand. That looked like a windy tow in!

Love your videos! Could I ask with this particular campsite and others do you book far in advance to secure a pitch? Do you mainly plan these trips during the week or weekends? Keep up the great work!
@@blackpool123 Most of the two to three night adventures like this one I book over the weekend or shoulder the weekend so I don’t use all my holidays up in work. I tend to book them several weeks in advance and avoid school half terms. The week long trips I book months in advance. For example it’s December now and I’ve already booked Scotland and Cornwall for next summer.

I worry she would wonder off if innocently called as I don’t have my eye on her all the time when out camping in the BC. I’m usually distracted with capturing content!

@@markwantling2893 The app I use for the walks is called Outdoor Active. I subscribe to it at the ‘Pro’ level to unlock all the features I need. It’s about £30 per year. I use the app in combination with the ‘Wild Guide’ series of books to find all the places I hike to and plan the routes.

A great vlog and you raise an interesting point on campsite choice with the increase in site fees we now tend to only book CL sites with electric hookups they are cheaper than fully serviced sites which enables us to go away touring an area for a full month! Have you planned any trips for next year yet? we have already booked our 5 site tour of North Wales and Angelsey using the cl sites!
