Do u give lessons. Would love to take them from u. I'm located in the states
If I could play as well as you Tom I’d buy one in a heartbeat!
Great video buddy! The dynamics in that harp sounds amazing! I truly understand why you enjoy it 🙂
Thanks buddy!
"I don't want it to get cold and lonely" I love that comment!
One thing about playing such a superb instrument is that you realize what is possible to achieve on the harmonica. I've known some really great players who felt that some things were difficult or impossible to do on a harp until they managed to get their hands on a better instrument. In a way it's like playing one of the early mouse-eared Marine Bands that played beautifully and overblow very easily straight out of the box. I feel that playing such a superb instrument will actually have you demanding and getting more from the regular instruments you already own.
What a nice gift!
Great review Tomlin. I have a few of Joels harps. They are nice, but I would truly love to try on of those D-10s sometime. To really do justice to some of the tunes I arrange and compose need desperately to be played on a harp that sounds like what you're describing. I have some favorites, but cant say I've ever played on the perfect harp that is perfectly consistent with every version. $1000 is a hefty price tag... You're a lucky man! Enjoy that thing.
You can try mine Sandy when we get to hang out in person :-)
If you are ready to spend that much money I suggest Brodur Harmonicas and adding a good customization work with your favourite customizers and you'll get by far the best harmonicas I have ever seen and on top of that they are real pieces of art!
I have not tried the one you are presenting but I did tried a lot of very high end harmonicas and none are as good as Brodur (as long as you add customization)
Totally agree that Brodur harmonicas are great, I just couldn’t get comfortable with the feel in my mouth. It’s a personal preference thing.
There is a custom pocket knife guy in town called Rudi Fourie, you can choose your own handle materiel as well as any other custom bells and whistles you desire in the assembly, they are not cheap but they are personally unique, special,
This harmonica is worth it just from hearing how this guy treats his own personally engraved harmonica. . .
I started playing harmonica in nineteen seventy five...blues harps were only five dollars...in addition, you could walk into a music store and purchase any eleven keys with no problem....today things have changed
Great Video, as to is it worth the price, I would say yes if you are a professional harmonica player, no if you are like me and just play harmonica for fun, having said that if my lotto numbers come up today I am getting one 😁👍👍
Hi Tomlin I have a harp made by J.A, wood covers paid £320 full setup it plays like god . hope your doing well all the best Ray
Nice!
I love your page... With you I learn how to do bendings. I am a musician, I play piano and guitar. It's easy for me to understand the fact that, if there are guitars and pianos that cost over a thousand dollars, why not a harmonica? Now, I would love, if you could tell me, at your discretion, understanding that there are tastes and brands, what is the best brand of harmonicas? For years I have used Hohner, a few days ago I got the Mick Jagger, Lee Oskar model, I have also played on the Fenders brand, I even have a G from the Hinner brand with which I play Tom Petty songs
I generally use Hohner harps :-)
The price 😂 ... I understand but all the same ... I'll stick to crossovers and special 20s , Suzuki in C
Unless of course I meet a rich widower 😂
Having said that, it is entirely in the realm of possibility or likelihood that there are advantages, perhaps hidden advantages, to this instrument based on the "secret treatment" of the reeds. In other words, what you demonstrated didn't surpass anything I know to be achievable on other custom harmonicas, high-end beautifully done, like I said, for around the third the price or so, but perhaps as you play it more, you will be able to demonstrate things that somehow do surpass other superbly set up and treated harps.
Beautiful. A Rolex of the Harmonicas. I was disappointed when I bought a Hohner Crossover that came with the terrible gapping problems.
Out of the box harmonicas are generally good these days but you do sometimes get a dud. This is why people pay to get customs. I’d say Joel’s harmonicas are the Patek Philippe of the harmonica world though ;-)
Can‘t buy me love 💙
In my experience, there are other custom harps that accomplish the same advantages you've demonstrated here for a third of the price.
Nonetheless, congratulations on this very special gift!
I totally agree. That’s why I said that you can do anything on a Hohner Marine Band but it’s the feel and musicality that I find amazing on this harmonica.
@@TomlinHarmonica yes, i'm sure its distinctively lovely to play
Ok I want one!
Always buy Quality when you can’t afford it
Those harmonicas are obviously top quality
If you are a consummate professional then those are the harps for you
Personally I would love to have a set
I would keep them in a humidor …. a locked humidor
How cool & what a great gift !!!
For $1000 I bet you do play differently. I’ll start saving for a D-10 !!!!
I just ordered a d10. 33 month wait time. Am I crazy. Yea I guess so. But tomlin sold me on this harmonica.
I think they’re awesome - I’m on the list for the rest of the set :-)
Good morning Tom
It sounds almost as good as a tweeked Lee Oskar.
hello i bought a harmonica that has an E on it qnc im learing is this bad and can you tell me which songs i can play
Im here ❤
If you're hiring a craftsperson to create something special, the hours alone needed to make that harmonica would be worth $1000 - it sounds and looks beautiful (Bet it wouldn't if I had one :-). ). Only downside is Tomlin saying he wants a full set...Does this mean the cost of the lessons is going up? ;-)
lol don’t worry Mark - I have 3 years to save up for a set :-)
Do you just buy them off his website or somewhere else? I seriously might get some custom rockets
Yes you can order on his website.
but how long will it last and stay in-tune?
It will last forever. Like all instruments it will need to be tuned from time to time
I didn't notice which key is this one?
It’s an A
WAY out of reach! But thanks for the review of something I'll never own.
I’ve heard great things about Joel’s lower priced harmonicas as well.
I mean if you make a living playing harmonicas I can understand it but not for someone who plays for personal enjoyment.
Yeah you better say it’s worth it he gave it to you! Yeah you better treat it better than the others.
I’ll take one of his custom rockets
How are you and how is Delacroix doing these days?
I'm good thanks! Delacroix is no more I'm afraid BUT we are still playing together.
@@TomlinHarmonica you have a great sound together.
I could pay this amount just for a Sonny Boy Williamson harmonica😅
That is way too much for a disposable instrument. 30 bucks is also too much.
This is definitely not disposable Jerry - it will last a lifetime
Killing the spirit of harmonica as the easely manageble "stick in youre pocket" and play anywhere, at any time instrument. Total miss.
At $1,000 I'd be afraid to play it.
I certainly treat mine a lot better than my other harps but it is still a tool which is made to be played
I can buy more than 2 months groceries for thousand dollars, that is Insane . I will stick with my lee ocars and wooden blues harp .
If you can get 2 months of groceries for $us1000, you are lucky. I spend about $au 500 per week about $us 2600 for 2 months.
$1000 and its made from recycled paper i don't know
1000 dollar in indian rupee 100 000
Sound like any other 5$ harps from buss station
How does it feel to drive a Lamborghini...
Embrace the baldness, shave it all
I get a heart, this is so sweet. The first time I told you this about 4 years ago I got a very different reaction ;)
@@simonb4689 It's all gone now...
@@TomlinHarmonica been there! That's why I knew so long ago ;)
Could you do a soundtrack instead of video? You're too much.
