Hi Tomlin, I am 70 and have been playing on and off since I was ten. Was active from then to about 23 limited by owning only a C key Marine Band, Blues Harp, and a Chromatic, until I went into grad school and then didn't play much until lately. I don't consider myself an expert at all, maybe a rung or two below since I learned everything by playing along with records back in the 60s and 70s. Canned Heat was where I hit the wall because of the limits of owning only a C! Anyway, as part of my winding up my time n earth, and now being limited to less physical activities (I was a competitive fencer for 20 years at the national level), I want to see if I can round out and expand my skills and creativity. So I have been buying up various harmonicas, I own 17 as of today in various keys. Most are Lee Oskars, but I have two Seydels, one Crossover, one Marine Band (C, of course), a Blues Harp (Hohner A). I also have the Chromatic (C) and an Echo (C), which I use to play folkish stuff I've run across over the years (used to play Irish, French, American, British Folk and still do a bit). I am doing this warm-up and then working on some upper-level skills like overblows and blow bends at high notes, etc., but for my New Years Resolution, I am going to sign up for your four-week class and take ti from there. Sorry for so many words, but I'm excited.
I've learned so much from this man, just ordered sp20 harmonica
That's awesome to hear!
How are things going? Professional yet?
@@cjxplusone Haha not really, it took me months to learn how to bend and finally i can bend all notes (1-4,6). I've also learned many different songs, i love my sp20:)

Good lesson. Well explained. Great technique with video showing musical staff with notes and the blow and draws. Nice metronome with the finger snaps.
Just started playing. Thanks for your time and help provided 👍
Tom, you are spreading positive attitude towards everything through your videos.
Thank you Tom 🤍🤍
Getting started - Thanks Tomlin! You're straight forward, friendly and easy to understand. I look forward to trying my best during your 4 week course. I had no idea what a steep learning curve at first with harmonica, but with every clear note I blow or draw I'm gaining confidence. Thanks again!
Warm ups are essential. Such a small thing, but makes a huge difference! I always do a warm up and I find that it makes my harp easier to work with. Thanks for posting this! Greetings from NC!
You're spot on James! Couldn't agree more. :-)
This is GOLD
Very very cool. I AM learning how to play harmonica blues with you
As a totally beginner, the scale exercise is really an eye opener! I can "feel" the distance between holes/notes.
Also your single notes exercise enables me to follow/read tabs! Thank you for lessons! Regards from Indonesia! 😃👍
SUPER.. thank you so much.. I got a fender harmonica to get started..
Thanks for all your videos Tomlin. I rarely run out of air/over inflate since ive been using your videos
Great video👍👍👍👍

Love your lessons Tomlin... Great tips on warm up! 🙏🏻
Thanks Justin!
Thank you for all lessons!
You're welcome! The pleasure's mine. :-)
Thanks for this tutorial Tomlin! I will definately use this!
Awesome!
Thanks for these explanations and brilliant show from France :)
Thank you!
Thanks, Tomlin. I've taken lessons from several on-line instructors, but they are generally demonstrators; you are a teacher.
The Wizard of the Harp! I'm not worthy! ;P
You're totally worthy - I'm just a harp teacher :-)
Pffft hmmmph GTFS!!
I too got a special 20 and I agree this is a great harp, not that it has made me a great player! Feels good to play and easier than some other Hohners I have, e.g. Blues Harp, Big River Harp or Marine Band. Lee Oskars I also like a lot, and they have some alternative tunings. I love the Harmonic Minor for Yiddish tunes and tango
Liked the video. Just a thought. You could maybe do a video on how to play Sweet Caroline. I know it's not really a blues song, but it is a song we all enjoy.
Nice
Great one Tomlin. U re a good teacher. Just got my harmonica call signature. Does this good for all kind of music?, like gospel music, and some blues? Thank you.
bro aint gone like i thought i wasnt gonna make the minute. i did im proud of myself haha mad beginner ish
Hey! I play other Instruments, about how Long will it take me i've started 3 months ago I had a Lil practice,
you explain it Great, and you''re really Good at what you do, thanks for doing this Man, But i wanna know how long, and what other things i can try out how improve this Art..
Great work you're doing! Thank you very much for that.I am storyteller and shadowplayer based in Germany and just started to get closer to the harmonica. I want to use it for my storytelling and appreciate very much that you are working that deep into the detail.
I just started playing, picked myself up a seydel session steel so that I don’t wear it out learning on it. My question though is that I purse using my tongue, by almost semi rolling my tongue and placing the tip of it on the bottom of the hole, it allows me to get clean notes every time and being that it’s my tongue i can quickly count a 2 or 3 note jump. If it feels right should I change to either lip pursing or tongue blocking?
I always say “ticka- Tocka” on the train beat. Dunno why it’s just what I started doing.
i need on Bflat key !!! please
I'm trying to figure out which harmonica to use for my guitar chords in A7, D7, A7, E7, A7. Do you have a recommendation?
My harmonica is arriving Saturday I'm real excited to learn. Do you have any tips for someone with copd??
Yes - relax and sit and breathe with the harmonica. Open your mouth over holes 1,2 and 3 and get comfortable breathing naturally through the instrument.
Just have fun, try to make your practice fun, learn the blues scale with single notes.loads of help on you tube.
Thanks Tomlin!
Do you ever let air seep in or out of the nose?
No :-)
Dear sir! I will bay the diatonic harmonica:
C harp
And i want more diatonic harmonica.
So which harp is beater?
I think G harp? 🙄🤔
Hey, I'm looking at the 4 week foundation course and I'm wondering if most of this stuff is also applicable to the chromatic harmonica? I have a chromatic, but I find most instructionals at the foundational level are for the diatonic......
Hi Tom, I’m feeling a bit despondent as I think I made a mistake buying a new Chromatic, I’m a complete beginner and have been inspired by watching UA-cam Harmonica players, I realised it wouldn’t be easy but I’m staggered at the difficulty breathing and getting clear notes, 2 hole seems to be the worst it’s almost dead, I do warm the harmonica before starting, I’m at the point of putting it in a draw and putting it down to stupidly, I’m 70 years old and just wanted to learn something new, it is a Suzuki SCX-48, have I bitten off more than I can chew? Thanks Andrew
Thanks, Tomlin roughly how long would you warm up for going into a practice season.
And is there anything else, eg warbles, bends, glissando, or just stick to a basic warm-up.
A good 5-10 minutes is a good rule of thumb for any instrument
7th hole said "Nope" to whoever was creating the harmonica. Totally missed you saying draw again on reaching 7 instead of blow. Had me wondering why it was sounding so wrong 😅
tTrain W U 00:40 1:50 2:30
C scale 5:55
What's the best harmonica for beginners? Thank you a lot
That would be a diatonic harmonica in the the key of C (major)
For example the hohner marine band
Here are two of my lessons that answer your question:

Best wishes,
Tomlin
just beginning, but how to hold the harp?
high notes to the left or to the right?
Right
I don’t understand why the 7 hole lower note is reversed, so that inhale is the low note and exhale is the high. Why is that?
When might you have another enrollment date? I’ve tried to enroll for the 4 week training but I’m guessing it’s full at this time. It reads “course closed for enrollment”
These are things many beginners never learn because no one teaches them & they are in too much of a hurry.
I just buy this harmonica... what vid should i watch first sir
you just said free 4 week course, and when I clicked on the link it was a pay for course!!!
My malware software would not let me load this.
Good grief ...get to the lesson..
