5' 10" and 220 here. I was 420 2.5 years ago and made the decision to have bariatric surgery. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I always loved outdoors and hunting and fishing but my weight limited that. Now I do 20 mile hikes. Congrats John!!!

I had a 20-mile training day-hike went bad on me in May of 2019. It was the Bull Run - Occoquan Trail in northern Virginia. Plan was to hike halfway and go back, but it turned out the weather was much hotter & more humid than forecasted. Ran out of water on the way back & I was seriously dehydrated and close to heat exhaustion. Made it out ok and all turned out well & learned a good lesson. Two years later I successfully thru-hiked that sucker and felt fantastic. Redemption achieved!

I’m late to listening but my redemption hike is also the Foot Hills trail. I attempted a thru hike in March of 2023. The weather the couple weeks before our hike was fantastic, but the forecast for the week of our hike was lows in the upper 20’s low 30’s. My gear was fine but that was pushing the limits for my two kids. The first day was great. Then the first night we had several hours of downpour followed by below freezing temps. We also had a friend along for the first night. One kid and the friend both had water pool in their tent. My son hammock camped and learned his under quilt wasn’t warm enough. The weather wasn’t going to improve for a couple days and we didn’t have a way to get everything dried out to continue our hike. So we bailed. Our redemption hike was supposed to be spring break of this year. We were just going to do one section, then I got sick. Instead we car camped and did some day hikes that I could manage. But we will give the FT another go in the future.

Great episode, guys! Beard's lookin good, Jeremiah. And congrats on the weight loss, John!
I just went on my first backpacking trip in 10 years. I backpacked down into the Grand Canyon. We camped at Bright Angel campground. It was so epic, and the views were breathtaking. My training over the past few months really paid off. And now I want to do a redemption hike of my own. I had a faied trip about 11 years ago. We got lost on a loop trail in the Superstition mountains, and we chose to turn back and just camp at a campground. Which was not what we had hoped for! Haha. So I will most certainly be redeeming myself of that trail this fall 👊😎
Keep up the great work, guys! I live in Arizona, but it would be cool to meet you guys one day if you are ever over here and do a group meet up or something.

Did the FHT last summer in a hammock. Completely doable. Just an FYI, I read on Facebook about a month ago that FTC wasn't allowing shuttle drivers. So TAZ was looking into it and I don't know where it stands now. You might want to find out before you go. Good luck on ur hike, have a blast.

The FKT for the Foothills Trail is 14 hours 26 minutes. The unsupported is 17 hours 27 minutes 25 seconds.
I think Jason was just fast packing it from what I remember.

My redemption hike is Upper Creek Falls in the Linville gorge area of NC. Every time I have attempted this hike an extreme amount of rain made it not possible. I step on trail and the rain appears!

When I was weighing myself regularly I would do it after the morning coffee (☕💩) and before breakfast.

Redemption hike will be to finish the Ouachita Trail. I injured my knee 50 miles in. It’ll have to wait until after I complete the Colorado Trail this summer.

Is it considered a redemption hike if you’ve planned to go 3 separate occasions and haven’t made it out the front door. Blizzard. Covid. Noro
