24 years ago I first arrived in the United Kingdom. The first place I wanted to visit was Buckingham Palace and the Westminster area. Then I traveled the United Kingdom, Scotland, Ireland...I fell in love very much. These are on the first place in my soul, then Norway, Sweden, Spain, Croatia, France and Italy follow. But why the United Kingdom Wife and Ireland in the first place?! Because you know how to take care of your history in all areas. The icing on the cake are these magnificent locomotives and many others, pure P-40 Warhawk history. When I was a child, at school during breaks, I would take donuts and go up on the footbridge and watch the locomotives working and pass under the footbridge and "eat donuts with smoke". I can't forget ..... I am subscribed to you and I look forward to the next filmings. Thank you and good luck.
25:47....aww.... so cute, that couple reliving their childhood for a few seconds. thinking back to when they took that train as children back in the 50s.
All I can say to the Controller of BR is bravo sir for taking the decision to allow these beautiful locomotives to once again stretch their legs on BR metals. And lets face it, they are beautiful....the smell, the sound, the sight of a steam locomotive in motion is unsurpassed. I do hope that this continues, and that more and more they become a familiar sight on the railways. They have absolutely earned that right.
Magnifiquement tourné ce clip montre des machines parfaitement restaurées tractant des rames très homogènes, du plus belle effet dans un environnement très britannique. Merci à vous !
Wow, fantastic! Thanks so much for this, what brilliant sights and sounds. We are so lucky in this country to have so many preserved locomotives, and lucky to have people like yourself that go to a lot of trouble to film them. So good to see these machines stretching their legs. Hopefully it will not be too long before you will be able to see Pendennis Castle out and about - reacquainting herself to British rails once more, even better both her and the Flying Scotsman meeting up once again. Absolutely stunning video collection, thanks again!
At around 10:55, imagine waiting for a normal train, not knowing this is coming, then BOOM, there it is. Afterward, you're not 100% sure you didn't just see a ghost...
This is a fabulous way tospend time ! No insults , or people saying they don't like you / Just great enjoyment . Thankyou very much . Keep up the good work .Patrick Smith.
What can one say ..... Just wonderful. Thank you for all the time and effort for making these fantastic videos. Just in passing I now live in Thailand and these locos remind me so much of my home. Just WONDERFUL.
Albert Draper in Hull Yorkshire got the contract to scrap over 700 locos. Used to see them lined up as I went to work each morning, mid 60's. He spared ONE loco, a Black 5, and named it after himself. A lot of Peppercorns, like new-build Tornado went through his hands. All gone....
@18.01 That BBC Chopper was flying dangerously low and close to Flying Scotsman Just hope that pilot knew what they were doing but a very superb clip you put together also showing one of my favourites 46233 Duchess of Sutherland
I was impressed with the Dutchess of Sutherland and in particular, it's complete rake of Marron MK1 coaches instead of the usual hotch botch of stock from different era's Great Video!
It's wonderful to see that, when the steam locomotive needs assistance from a diesel, you folks in the Mother Country have the good sense to place the diesel at the END of the train. Here in the States, the diesel is almost always directly behind the steam locomotive... and sometimes in front of it! No, I'm not making this up!
The diesels are there for a variety of reasons but assisting isn't generally one of them. Most common reasons are for providing power to the rolling stock services such as air con and electric train heating. Also depends on facilities at the destination as, of course, many of the destinations don't have run round and turning facilities which were the norm in the days of steam, so may be used for stock handling and positioning. Sometimes depending on timetables the diesel will take the stock on somewhere else while the steam loco returns to somewhere different. No doubt in an emergency the diesel might be pressed into service, but that is not why they are there and they run on idle being towed. On some of the trains you can notice that an end carriage has been converted into a generating car for the same reason.
Has anyone noticed that when a steam train passes people like to wave - I`m one of them I just love them they have a personality all of their own. I can remember the Loco sheds at Rhymney Station where they used to do service them for the Rhymney- Penarth line
Almost all trains pull less than 12 bogies (compartments). Today's population need atleast more than double. These were wonder in those times. Thanks for the videos.

Great video, chaps! I've watched a few of yours, on preserved lines and on the main line. All to the same 10/10 quality. Now, it may seem a silly question, but why do 'the authorities' seem to think a diesel is required sometimes, but not every time? Greetings from Southampton!

Looks pretty in the video, I remember at Reading steam shed on a cold November morning when you line up in front of the foreman and he gives you a job card and written on it is to do a valve and piston overhaul on one of them big four cylinder dirty steamers, tends to knock the smile off your face, was so nice to be transferred to the diesel sheds when they opened up, much more pleasant environment to spend your day, these old steamers are long gone thank the Lord.
@Tabourba All the steam sheds I have worked in cannot compare to the new diesel sheds and facilities for their workers, like showers and decent cooking arrangements, more like home for us apprentices, depends on you attitude and upbringing I suppose !!
@@sadelsor You are comparing the facilities, not the locomotives. After working for many years at Derby loco. works on steam and diesel I can tell you that steam loco's, although heavy were mostly dusty dirt. Try changing a fuel injection pump on a Sulzer engine with 1000s of hours behind it. Thick black SMELLY gunk, ugh ! With decent facilities, given the choice, I would go back to steam.
They provide electricity and heating to the coaches. Also they allow the train to run reverse as there are hardly any turntables now. They do not push, all forward power is the steam loco.

Nope, I think 46115 had a bit of a wobble on, it starts with the engine and gets transfered to the tender. Maybe the loco isn't balanced for running at that particular speed.

The word 'Magnificent' was invented to describe a steam engine at speed !
Magnificent indeed and intriguing to say the least.

So I have to say ... British steam locomotives are already real works of art. There looks a locomotive more beautiful than the other :-))

Yup, It grabbed me too. Don't know how many times I've watched just that part of the video a few extra times. Excellent work.
Perfectly cut videos of engines doing what they were built to do. STUNNING!

They all look and sound fantastic, but nothing beats a Spamcan Unrebuilt Bullied Pacific at full chat! Great video 👍🏻
Couldn't agree more!

superb! what a wonderful unique asset these locos are. excellent quality video and sound. Thank you
Funny isn't it, how you never see people with cameras standing on windy hillsides of chilly station platforms waiting for a Pendulino to come through.

Steam locomotives at speed evoke some kind of primal fear in me because of the thrumming noise and fast reciprocating parts. Nice video anyways :)

whats up with 60163's whistle? it sounds broken.

Dear old 'Oliver Cromwell' always sounds so angry when it's puffing along at speed. A wonderful locomotive, though.
Those were the days.
Are these trains only for special tour packages or for regular commuting ?
Nice video, but I'm just gonna say, from the perspective of someone living in America, those whistles sound hilarious.
THEN YOU HAVENT HEARD THE ONES ON THE NYC SUBWAY.
Poetry in motion. Period.
Just curious, why is it all Engine drivers refer to their trains as She's not He's?
Are the diesels along as backup or are they pushing?
Back up in case the steamer fails, but also to provide electricity to the coaches
26:08 Isn't it romantic. Men waiting on the bridge, flowers blossom 🌸, common ChiffChaff and blackbird sing 🎶
I guess our trains are more on Brute strength, size, and whistles. Don't cha think?
These coaches yellow and green are same of the Gordon in Thomas and Friends
Why do some of these steam trains have a diesel on the back pushing?
They provide electricity and heating to the coaches. Also they allow the train to run reverse as there are hardly any turntables now. They do not push, all forward power is the steam loco.
i dunno why but i love blasting 'Meme Machine' while watching this...

Is it me, or do Royal (British) steamers not whistle much? (if at all?)
@Tabourba very interesting. I did not think of that. An excellent explanation. Thank you very much!
also all lines are fenced in and most crossing have automatic gates now
@@TheSorub really? I cannot imagine fencing in an entire rail line! That seems excessive!
its the law in the uk
