Thanks for the compliment. I was scared to put the 1911 in there because I didn’t have a holster for it lol

Used your code to order a safe for my 3. I checked their website and it is made in USA w 12 gauge steel. It is solid. I only concern about if thieves can pry using a screwdriver between the wall of the safe and the wall of the console.
I better come up a better reason to explain when my wife asks me why I install this. Haha.

Nice review, thank you. Looking for something for my 2024 Model 3 and this seems like it would do well once they release it for the 2024.

@@JonJong Just curious, what do you think it would take to pry the lid open? If someone had a screwdriver between the metal lid and console material, would the horizontal mounting screws keep it secured? I assume a highly determined person with the right tools could get it open, but I am mostly concerned with smash and grabs.

@@btrotter I think they use 12 gauge steel so I imagine it would take a lot more than a screwdriver to pry it open. As you mentioned, with the right tools any determined person would be able to get in but it’s going to take a lot of work.

It sucks that the state I live in does not allow to store firearm in console or glove box. But I think it is a good idea to keep some valuable items.

@@IAmThePrepper what state do you live in? Most states that I am aware of do not allow storing the of firearms in the glovebox.

I know glovebox is No no. But I thought in CA it does not allow firearm to be stored in glove box and center console.

@@IAmThePrepper if you do a Google search for “25140 PC” you can read the full California Penal Code. Here is a summary:
In subsection (b) it states you are allowed to use a locked container out of plain view. This includes a locked container that is permanently affixed to the vehicle’s interior and not in plain view.
Under subsection (d)(1)(A) it states a utility or glovebox is not considered a locked container.
I know it may sound confusing but you can use a locked container within a utility or glovebox and be compliant. (This is not legal advice, this is only my interpretation of this California Penal Code)

I wish they had angled it to allow you to still get at the usb ports. I would get this otherwise.

I forgot to mention there was a cutout in the back for the light. Let me double check to see if there is still access to the USB ports.

@@timesaver6689 I just checked; so there is a cutout in the front for the LED light and the back is open so you have full access to both USB-C ports!

@@JonJong Can you post or send me a picture of what it looks like with the cables plugged into the USB-C cord? I dont want to drive around with my safe open.

    • @JonJong
      @JonJong  12 днів тому +1

@@nsx11 I can’t post photos here. I just looked again and the USB ports are below the safe’s locking door. If you are going to plug in an SSD or other device that you want secure that will work perfectly. You can’t access unless you open the safe.
If you want to be able to have access while you are driving then you’ll have to keep the lid/door open.
If you need access while driving the car you’re better off using the rear passenger USB ports on the back of the center console (this is what I do).
