Got myself 0.15mm 22lb one, as I am typing this comment with my right hand, I am holding the line next to 0.30mm fluoro leader in my left hand, looks like there is little to no difference in diameter, maybe braid is 0.02 - 0.03mm thinner but not a whole lot. Also it is loud passing through rod guides. So much about super slick. Maybe you could, down the road, do noise test through guides as well.
@@taylorcaputo3013 Totally agree, perhaps I can find somebody that has a small amount that I can get my hands on to do a quick compare and post an update.
thanks for video. nice job. imo for BFS fishing JDM lines are more popular in size 0.4-0.8 PE or 1.2-1.5 for bass/pike fishing. 1. Shimano pitbull 8+ 2. ygk x-braid upgrade 3. daiwa durasensor. 4. varivas max power 5. seagur grand max. additional sunline and gosen lines are awesome. power pro and suffix not usable for UL fishing, sad suffix 832 one of my favorite line.
Thanks for your input! I have quite a few that you have mentioned on my list to do, and the Sunline Siglow has been tested and the review should be out in about a week or so. 👌
Got it thanks. The challenge with getting accurate measurements that way is that the micrometer will pretty much always crush the braid so it will measure under, but great job for doing the testing 👍
Using a micrometer to measure a braided line is laughable, and using a cheap fish scale to measure the weight compared to a thousands of dollars tensile test machine is even more comical
Line diameter will change once stretched wet and used for a while. It will tighten the fibers over time and then you will get your true line diameter. Dyneema fibers are slick to begin with and this allowed them to loosen when dry and new. As far as breaking strength goes…: I’d rather my line have an abrasive strength that equals line test weight… and stronger than rated under optimal conditions. Because when the line is going to break won’t be under optimal conditions. It will be when it comes in contact with an abrasive surface such as fish teeth or an underwater log or branch. If the line breaking strength doesn’t hold up when it’s in direct contact with an abrasive object then what good is the weight rating to begin with. If this requires the optimal conditions breaking strength to be higher than rated…. So be it.
I have tested the 15lb here: ua-cam.com/video/Xya9agiQeC0/v-deo.html but I would love to get my hands on some of the lighter weights as I think its a great line. Definitely stay tuned for that 👍
Haha quite possible. Although I saw the IGFA video where they tested the SS v2 15lb and it was breaking up around 35lb, so perhaps this really is their "8lb".
@@thelinelaboratory All braided lines I have tested have never exceeded their claimed strength. No wonder this one is so thick. Thank you for shearing these results!
@@thelinelaboratory I suspect many manufacturers use the same line and just label it different strengths to save cost (e.g. SSV2 8/10/15, 20/30/40, etc.) otherwise the number of permutations of various line models/strengths/colors is huge for a given brand.
@@thelinelaboratory loving the tests mate great content. Adding some knot testing or casting distance tests somehow in the future could be good. I’ve been having casting issues with the j-thread, braid has been cutting through it after 10 casts. I’ve lost a few lures these last few weeks. Anyways I’ll sub!
@@muntjunk-plk3171 Thank you! Knot strength is definitely something I am looking at introducing and I am testing a few things now to ensure I have a method that allows repeatable results. Once I have that nailed I will start to include it in the testing regime and as time allows go back and retest all of the lines I have tested already to see how they handle a knot.

I would love to see a repeat of this test with a new spool to see if it was manufacturing defect or mislabeled
That would be an interesting test but my gut feel is that it will be the same. Would be awesome to confirm that though 👍
Well even if you didn't make a video I would be interested in hearing the results if you did re-compare

Yeap I switched to Varivas lines now would love to see the test for those thanks!
Which Varivas did you switch to and what's your thoughts on it?
@@thelinelaboratory I got the new Varivas 8 #1, planning to buy the Varivas Avani Casting PE#1.5 for my 5000 size reel
My 8# SS v2 measures 0.006" or 0.160mm and has an absolute breaking strength of 22 lbs with my berkley fish scale measured 3x. This is my go to line.
Interesting, how did you get that diameter measurement?

Do varivas braid
Great suggestion, and your not the first person to suggest Varivas so we will certainly add it to the list.

Factory mistake. Likely to be 20lb braid.
Are you thinking a labeling mistake?
Surely lol that’s not 8lb test no way 😂

I really don't like these "cheap" braids. Mass produced, you see it everywhere.

Yes this looks to be very interesting and very expensive, I would love to see how it performs 👍
