This is a hard argument. The diversity and hit making ability of Kanye, while maintaining hip hop sensibilities. Dilla is just excellent in all technical aspects of beat making and makes evergreen, pure hip hop shit.
Funny, Common didn't pop until he incorporated Ye for the "Be" album... Although Like Water for Chocolate is my favorite Common album, Dilla couldn't get him to pop with his production alone. Premo produced the lead single 6th sense. Also when ATCQ incorporated Dilla after Midnight Marauders, Tribe fell off.. Beats, Rhymes, Life and The Love Movement are forgettable projects compared to the first 3 when Qtip handled a bulk of the production

D'Angelo did that completely independently of Dilla, Brown Sugar came out in 1995 and the off beat timing was present throughout.
