- Audio for streaming can be overwhelming.. UA-camrs and Twitch Streamers often give advice with good intention that is not productive advice for new streamers.. I have done this myself.. but, this video will cover 3 of the most common mistakes and misconceptions streamers have when they first start.
After this video you will know:
- How to position your microphone correctly
- How to mix your stream audio
- How to set compression for live streaming
- How audio compression works
- What the ratio setting does for compression

I'm sorry the video is too quiet.. wont happen again.
Another great one Franny
♥️♥️
The animation to go along with your explanation of compression/ratios was great. That genuinely helped put that into perspective.
And I'm glad that you mentioned that you should be around -10 when applying gain. I was always worried that too much gain would hurt the quality of the recording.
I'm looking forward to tweaking my filters a bit in OBS and giving this a whirl.
I’m glad I could help :)
Peaking aroun -6 to -1 isn’t bad but measuring the loudness is important
Hey Frans. Great stuff.
I've noticed your videos continue to increase in quality. (Nice job!)
I wonder if you are dedicating more time editing them or you just got so much better that you were finally able to break YT's algorithm.
I’ve spent a lot of time dedicated to the following:
1. Researching UA-cam algorithm and what it favors. Better understanding what thumbnails get clicks and don’t get clicks. More importantly why they do and don’t.
2. Focusing on what the audience cares about and not what I care about i.e. asking for subscriptions, likes, etc.
2a. This led me to realize that on average a user only watches about 2:30min of my videos. Instead of aiming for 8-10min videos I am focusing on higher watch through percentages by ONLY keeping what matters. Asking myself, “does this need to be in the video?” and if I explain something in length as I edit I will ask myself “does this still make sense if I cut this out?”
3. I do A LOT of research, script writing, and video editing to fine tune every detail. This also comes in the form of more rest in between each video instead of overworking myself :)
Hope this is a good answer.

Totally agree at 0:40 about mic placement but food for thought...
I see you're using a pop filter and wind screen. A wind screen is primarily for just that, wind, although it also does a decent job of blocking plosives ('p', 'b', etc. sounds). A pop filter like you have does a better job of this, so honestly I'd remove the wind screen as it may dull the clarity of your mic. You also need a couple inches space between the mic and pop filter for it to be effective, although a dual layer filter mitigates this. Finally, you can try placing the mic off to the side (still pointing at your mouth) to reduce plosives
The windscreen on this mic is cheaply made.. very thin with very little plosive prevention.
Hello how are you,,,
I really have a problem and I am trying to look for solutions but I couldn't find any solutions
my problem is I have hyper x cloud alpha s headset and when I plug it I have 2 outputs one called (game output) and the other one (called chat output),
and in shadowplay (Nvidia) I want to record all of them(sound) but I can't I have to use one of them and I want to combine 2 outputs into 1 output, and that's it do you have any idea?
so I'm new to YouTubing and I have a headset and a built in webcam I've been using (not the greatest quality, I know. I intend to upgrade hardware if i start getting subs) and I'm going into this whole thing blind. Could i use compression still with a headset or do I need a mic?
I wouldn’t with a headset.. might just make the audio a little too much. But not sure would like to hear it
@@TheFranswahStudio yeah I've had to do a lot of adjusting to get the volumes okay and even then I edit to cut out the parts where I can hear myself breathing
I have a handful of clips where the mic&game audio were the same and it sounds terrible where I cut it out and it cuts out the music as well 😅
Might just have to invest
@@shadow200569 it’s worth investing mate. Take a look at the Samson Q9U for a USB/XLR option that’s affordable
@@TheFranswahStudio I greatly appreciate the advice :) I'll definitely look into it
Does a soundcard can make your mic stop picking up headphone audio ? Also thx for these tips
Can you explain more? If your mic is picking up what's playing from your headphones, your headphones are just too loud. You could also try a different mic
@@beaubastion my headphone is loud i think
@@beaubastion when i low volume headphone , my mic won't pick up
@@quac7879 yeah sounds like your headphones are too loud/mic is too sensitive and it's picking them up. Maybe you can get them to seal more over your ears? That's the best I got shy of buying a new headset or mic sorry man
Thanks to you now I can stream like a pro 😎
Happy to help :)
