I try to limit my time on social media as I always feel I could be doing something much more productive. I feel it’s important to have some down time so I tend to look at social media at the end of a productive day where possible. I can watch random videos of people making snow angels without feeling guilty when I’ve done everything I set out to do for the day. Happy Holiday, too!
Exactly! For me the perfect social media time is in the evening but a few hours before going to sleep!

As someone who has taken Discrete Math, I can say it's an acquired taste whether you enjoy it or not. I did, but I love all things math (take that as you will). I agree that getting into specific topics like Computer Architecture and OS will help you get a better idea on whether attending more classes is worth it for you.
Also, question, if your app succeeds, do you plan to design it for Android?

First time commenting and I just want to say I love watching you try out different things and share with us. I'm also on a journey to figure out what I want my channel to be and at the moment it's literally "come along with me as I do and try this and that". I'm finding those types of channels are fun to me and more interesting because I learn something new. While the other more predictable channels have become background noise for me while I'm working or cleaning. Hope this feedback helps!

Even though I'm not into tech, i watch your videos cause they're so inspiring and makes me miss NY.
Love that in your "funemployed" phase, you're doing all the things you really want to do.
I'm on break from my full-time job for the holidays and found myself just scrolling through stories, forced myself to stop!
Now I'm 80+ pages into a book I got for Christmas lol.
As an Android user, we have something similar to the app you're building, but it's definitely not calming, especially on Dark Mode lol.
It's like a school teacher tapping you to log off. I ignore it most times, but will try to do like you and make the most of my time.

My policy with social media right now is: post then ghost. If I don't have a message to respond to, nothing to say or it's too depressing, I leave.
I tried Opal but it's too aggressive and they want to much money for basic focus functions that only even work based on Free functions in iOS.

This app is great! Love that you are sharing the process. I’m a product manager for SaaS companies and it’s so cool to see this from a solo dev experience. You’ve got something here! One of the biggest things I have with wanting to cut down a screen time is “why” I want to cut it down. At night so I can wind down and sleep easier, during events so I can stay more focused, etc. what about a way to enter in this information to see does blocking out these apps help with my goals? Just an idea! this looks so cool!

When I learn a new system, for example, iOS, I do exactly like you, I start doing some app, however I publish it in the app store ASAP.
I am currently in my formal CS education, 3 semesters into the Bachelor program at TU Vienna and I can say these introductory classes like Discrete Math are there for a reason. I didn't see value in it last year either and wondered what it was used for. Now that stuff gets more advanced and interesting I see the value. In almost every course we need and use the basics and have to have a solid foundation because almost everything else uses them to specify really anything. Without a solid base it would be very hard to follow. So yeah, I understand your struggle but can say that it will pay off in the future if you continue studying!

the most useful cs classes are 3rd year courses: algorithms, system architectures etc.
Did you consider making your app cross-platform (React Native, Flutter) before going iOS native?

Hi welcome! I quit my job because it was too overwhelming doing both a full time job and content creation, so I took a break to rest and now I'm working on launching my first app! I still have a few months left of my sabbatical so we'll see what happens

I have regarding app development. Since you worked at Google, why create the app in IoS versus Android and putting it in the Google Play store?
Were the classes online or inperson? A post bacc sounds interesting. I'm self taught and was looking at masters but because i lack the undergrad experience, i don't think im qualified
What software you use to show app in screen while recording.? I'm an aspiring UA-cam and need pointers on editing software etc.
So iOS doesn't let you automatically switch to a certain mode, where specific apps are blocked, at chosen times?
