Kishi Bashi - I am the Antichrist to you? (No one has done one yet!) Not just for the vocals but the live one with the Nu Deco Ensamble is beautifully well made and underheard!
You were talking about the colors in their voices, which are incredible. It made me think of a demo recorded by Angelina Jordan. Now she has tons of new live and studio recordings, her version of Suspicious Minds is incredible. I like the studio version best. This demo though, shows the most amazing jazzy colors in her voice. It's called: I'm Still Holding Out for You. There's also a video of her singing her two of her originals live in concert in Norway this summer, Seventh Heaven and Million Miles. Always love your reactions. Thank you. Emojis are not coming up for me, but you left the (shhhh) emoji.
They just received notice that they have been nominated for a 4th Grammy Award for their 2021 Christmas album! And a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2023! They are AMAZING! 💕
Scott is a baritone with an insane range. Because Scott usualy has main lead singning tenor, people tend to forget his low range, who else covers the low base notes when Avi or Mat were singing lead. He does it so seemlesly that noone notices.
I think you might got nuts on "Radioactive" with Lindsay Sterling. Kevin is AMAZING in it!! My favorite part of this song is when Matt does that smooth slide down on "and no one Dared" into "the sound of silence". That's saying a lot because every note from every member is pure perfection to my ears!! ❤ I find myself listening to this every time I see it pop up. Which is about once a week!! Luv ya Maggie!!🥰❤
Honestly speaking, it was thanks to their cover of "Radioactive" with Lindsay Stirling that I first learned of Pentatonix. I'd been a fan of Lindsay for quite a while before that, and that was the first time i'd ever learned of them, and was immediately BLOWN AWAY by how amazing it was.
In these climax moments, you hear Matt doing bass sounds. You hear Kevin doing his thing. Then Mitch, Kirsten, and Scott. Who grew up together. Went to the same school. Went to the same college. LIFELONG FRIENDS. That is what this group is all about.
I think of it has Kirstie voice has matured to its full potential. My voice teacher told me that many (not all) sopranos' voices don't reach their best quality until they are are approaching 30 - in this video, I think Kirstie is in her mid-late 20s so that makes sense. She has taken good care of her voice.
This song is one of their top five songs. Scott is a natural baritone with the ability to go low enough to cover a bass line. They have just been getting better and better. Love your reactions Maggie :)
We need more Pentatonix reactions from you. They're the best! "Mad World," "Shallow," and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" (since Christmas is right around the corner). Plus some more of their "Evolutions of..."
😅I absolutely love how you drink in the song. Your pause moments are well done and don’t feel intrusive like other reaction videos. Definitely a highlight to my day
I’m so happy you were able to see that you reacted a song that shows everyone’s talent. Matt is a great addition and this is such a good song to hear how well he works with the group. I get to see them in their opening show of their holiday tour this Thursday. I am over the moon excited and counting down the days. 🤫
Miss Maggie! It is always a joy to watch your reactions. Lol. I grew up in the 50s and 60s, and have every song by S&G. PTX always brings their vocal magic to everything they do, and brings out the true meaning of every song. Thank you for doing this reaction!
Kirsten in amazing grace, and my favourite things! is amazing! They all are of course! Joyful joyful is an amazing one to watch! Live! Its so much fun! 😊😊
Like you the modulation before Kirstin's solo is my favorite part of the song. Such a smooth key change into her comfortable range. Transcribing that moment was the first thing I did after listening to this one.
I’m still singing harmony at age 60. 😊Sweet Adelines competitive singing in region 9 in the 🇺🇸 was the last level up for me. Church choir, etc.,Bass in Sweet Adelines, Tenor in SATB, truly have been told I’m a natural tenor since age 14, and I love it.❤
They just released a new Christmas album called "Holidays Around the World". "Prayers for this World" from that album has a video, and I think you will find Kirstin's voice is a knock-out in that song. Also, the rest of the songs have visualizers, but "Love Came on Christmas" has an African vibe. It's my fave from the album. Thank you for reacting to this song. When this video first came out a reactor with musical training said the closed endings of the words(like a hug) was done on purpose to keep the impact of the words down, but as they continue to sing, those word endings open up.
It was obvious that Matt would be a great addition from the beginning. Before Pentatonix, he was in The House Jacks, where he had replaced Elliott Robinson. After Avi departed, they were in the comfortable situation that both, Elliott and Matt auditioned. Considering Elliott's extraordinary low range, which you can hear in Pitch Perfect 2 (Das Sound Machine) or The Bass Gang's cover of Mad World, deciding for Matt is a sign that they felt, he would match them perfectly. He obviously does.
I thought no way anyone can beat the original version of this song, It is one of my all time favorites but they did it again . They dont do covers they do upgrades

Loved your reaction as always, it's one of my hilights for the day... if the notification tells me new video from Maggie 😍.
🤫Excellent performance of a beautiful song. Pentatonix did an amazing job. Nice thing about watching and enjoying a Maggie Renee reaction, is I always go back and watch my favorite react again. Home Free Butt's Medley.
Kirsten has grown the most of anyone in the group. Progressively even more since this video. She sings lower, because she found her sweet spot is lower. Her voice is far more resonant than the early days, and in a lot of songs she cleverly uses vibrato far more now. Even her stage posture (probably from a few months straight a few years ago performing daily on a Broadway stage) is totally different. From the early career performances where she was timid at worst, or just blending in at best, her stage presence from about 2018 on is shoulders back, head raised, and commanding.
This is my *personal* analysis, based on what I've seen in videos and interviews from the time - take it accordingly. When Pentatonix went on _The Sing-Off,_ as far as Kirstie was concerned they were there to introduce the world to the wonder that is the voice of Mitch Grassi. I believe she thought of Pentatonix as "The Mitch Grassi Band" and herself as primarily there to support Mitch, and secondarily to support the others. This began to change, I believe, in 2013 when Todrick Hall talked her into starring in _The Wizard of Ahhhs._ Make no mistake, she had to step out of her comfort zone to do that, because she truly was the star, not only playing Dorothy Gale, but also Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West Side. All the others were in the video with her, providing harmony and percussion and playing roles of their own, but Kirstie was the star. She was just two months past her 21st birthday when Todrick posted _The Wizard of Ahhhs_ to his UA-cam channel. Contemporaneous interviews with the men in the group show that they recognized this - they all said that watching Kirstie was the best part of filming _The Wizard of Ahhhs_ (except for Kevin, who said jokingly that he thought Toto was the true star - Kevin played Toto in the scenes set in Oz). Then when Kirstin went to Broadway and got a major role in _Kinky Boots_ she began attracting attention and praise from people who *weren't* already personal friends (i.e. Pentatonix), and she just blossomed. It took real courage for Kirstie to begin acting like *she* could be a star, but it paid off for her; now she *is* a star, and Pentatonix is stronger for her transformation. And the moral (if we must have a moral)? When you find out what you're good at, run with it. Believe in yourself; become the best *you* that you can be. Both you and the world will be stronger for it.
Kristen and Kevin are the stars of this one. When Matt sings you can hear Kristen doubling the verse, and their voices together make that part so good. Kevin is the engine that drives them, but he is incredible in this one.
Mitch is one of the prettiest people ever. And his voice. OMG I wish I had an 8th of his voice. I'm a Wagner tenor but I WANT that Mitch sound in my voice too.
You must have forgotten, you have heard Scott’s magnificent baritone before in The Prayer. By the way, that album, Evergreen, has been nominated for best album Grammy! Edited to add, it’s December now and PTX has six Christmas albums. Mary Did You Know, Silent Night (incredible arrangement), The First Noel, Little Drummer Boy and dozens and dozens and dozens more!
Scott is a lyric baritone. His range extends into both the bass and the tenor. In official recordings the bass singer (either Matt or Avi, depending on when the recording was made) will sing a second track of the underlying bass harmonies which they will layer in during the bass's solo performances, but in live performances *Scott* handles those underlying bass harmonies. All the members of Pentatonix have incredible ranges. Kirstie is officially a mezzo soprano, but she also sings alto and can actually sing as high as Mitch, possibly higher. I believe that means she *could* be classified as a coloratura soprano. We already knew that Mitch's range is greater than 6 octaves. Kevin has a beautiful tenor voice, but I've seen one website that classes him as another lyric baritone. And Matt? When I attended their Denver concert last month (November 20, 2022) they sang "Hallelujah" early in the program, before their voices were tired, and I would swear that Matt's lowest note was as low as anything Avi could sing, i.e. true speaker-blowing basso profundo, and his highest note was in the *tenor* range! I already knew that Matt has a formidable talent (he's in Pentatonix, duh!), but at this point I can only describe him as spectacular.
Bonjour / Hello I teach French as a second language here in Québec and when I saw your « thought » « listen to Mitch’s clear diction » , well this is what I looooooooove about him. Of course, the voice, that’s a given but the diction is absolument extraordinaire !
This I the first video I have seen of yours and I now have to watch a few others you have mentioned. Pentatonic, in my opinion, is the BEST harmonizing group ever. Your facial expressions are like mine EVERY time I listen to them. 🤫
"The Prayer" from Pentatonix would be nice too.. it will fit perfect in these winter/CHristmas time :) it has goosebumps qualities, even little tears can happen ;)
Maggie: as much as you love Sound of Silence, you should personally check out Incanto Quartet’s version. It absolutely blew me away, and I freakin love Pentatonix!
Please note that Scott takes over the base while Matt was doing his thing! Every one of them is unique beyond belief!!! This is the only WORTHY version of this beautiful song!!!
I'd love to see your reaction to Pentatonix ft. Ateez - A Little Space, this was such a big leap of faith for both groups, to not only sing but also combining English and Korean into one cohesive song has got to be daunting, and i think they did a wonderful job, and its one of my favorite songs
Would love to hear your reaction to "Come Along" by Pentatonix. It's a short, quirky song which is loaded with nuance that someone musically trained will latched on to. The original composer is British up-and-comer Cosmo Sheldrake. iPhone used Cosmo's song in their XR commercial which featured an army of parkour free runners dressed in colored jumpsuits to illustrate a "color flood." Pentatonix grabbed it, put their spin on it, and did their video dressed in super colorful outfits in a nod to the XR commercial.
Scott's first solo is in his lower range. Towards the end he hits you with his middle range. Wait until Matt hits his low note. Matt also worked very hard to learn all of Avi's parts for the earlier songs.
Love each one & together? Perfect example of how "The whole can be far greater than the sum of it's parts" 😍 Kevin though... So GOOD. Did you know he's ALSO a beautiful Classical Cellist? AND Saxophonist. AND Pianist. Is a Songwriter AND speaks several languages. Was well on the way toward getting a Medical Degree, before deciding to prioritise his music. Kevin has a really lovely Tenor voice, that we don't hear enough of. Not because of his vocal quality - but because the group is so reliant on his exceptional Beat Boxer skills. He, like a number of other PTX members has also branched out here and there to solo work. As for Mitch, this is a 'stop you in your tracks' 1 in 7 billion voice - a unique instrument. * PLEASE see his solo Billie Eilish cover of 'Your Power' - 'tis stunning. 😀
If you hadn’t heard Scott’s baritone before, you must not have listened to The Prayer from last year’s Christmas album, Evergreen… It’s so good that it’s been nominated for next year’s Grammy.
I will give you the challenge I always make: go through the PTX discography, pick a song you absolutely dislike/hate, and pick on that you believe the original version cannot be done any better, list and react to both. After that you will be a true Pentaholic. Oh by the way, live version vs studio version is almost indistinguishable. They do not recond anything they cannot do live with no mikes in a small room.

This opening shows clearly that when Matt or Avi has the lead, Scott can handle bass pretty darned well.
Great post…..they definitely Bwaaaah’d it!
If you listen carefully in the Hallelujah song when Avi sings the second verse Scott is doing the base line in the background. Lots of people miss it
Also with the Holidays coming up, try Pentatonix "Little Drummer Boy" Kevins beatboxing he's the lead on that one
Mary Did you Know is a good one and a favorite of mine
I think Kevin has matched his beatbox style is soooo on point.
Love this version 🤫
Hello again. Pentatonix is incredible :-)
i think the first time the did that entrance with mitch was on their dog days of summer performance from the sing off
Love each one & together? Perfect example of how "The whole can be far greater than the sum of it's parts" 😍
Kevin though...
Thanks for your lovely comment! Hope you will be on my Live Stream in about 1 hour?
If you hadn’t heard Scott’s baritone before, you must not have listened to The Prayer from last year’s Christmas album, Evergreen… It’s so good that it’s been nominated for next year’s Grammy.
I will give you the challenge I always make: go through the PTX discography, pick a song you absolutely dislike/hate, and pick on that you believe the original version cannot be done any better, list and react to both. After that you will be a true Pentaholic. Oh by the way, live version vs studio version is almost indistinguishable. They do not recond anything they cannot do live with no mikes in a small room.
You'd like Walk Off The Earth. Especially their covers of Someone Like You or Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You
