Of that era anyway, that was back when you still had to hold reset when you turned off the power because Nintendo didn't even fully understand their own hardware yet. Some of the later games, towards the end of the NES life cycle, were really pushing the limits of that console beyond what it ought to have been able to do. Parallax scrolling, etc.
