He is a true poet.. Robert will never grow old. He will forever remain eccentric, dark, fascinating, absolutely beautiful boy with romantic soul. He will never leave his tragic kingdom made of strange dreams..
@Allow me apparently their new album which was SUPPOSED to come out last year is kind of like disintegration and is darker. . . kinda like this stuff combined with disintegration. i hope it's true
@Allow me ugghhh great. i've barely been a fan for two years since i discovered them at seventeen and based on that episode maybe take his words with a grain of salt. in one song (all i want?) i couldn't tell if he's saying "all i want is to hold you like a dog or doll". i googled the lyrics and he said somewhere that they misprinted it as "dog" and he thought it was hilarious and let them continue. . . sure bob, whatever you say.
Robert is a genius, no doubt about it. On his 50th birthday, David Bowie said The Cure is one of the most eccentric british bands .... Yeah, Dave, you got it!

Give me your eyes that I might see The blind man kissing my hands The sun is humming, my head turns to dust As he plays on his knees And the sand and the sea grows I close my eyes Move slowly through drowning waves Going away on a strange day And I laugh as I drift in the wind Blind dancing on a beach of stone Cherish the faces as they wait for the end A sudden hush across the water And we're here again The sand and the sea grows I close my eyes Move slowly through drowning waves Going away on a strange day My head falls back and the walls crash down And the sky and the impossible explode Held for one moment I remember a song An impression of sound And then everything is gone forever A strange day
Loved the 80s music, still love it. The Cure was at the top of that list. We had a tape, VHS tape with The Cure videos and watched it over and over at times with friends. This was one of the videos on there and brings back so many great memories. Loved that era of music, the best music era in general.
Such a privilege to enjoy music together with your child. My son is 17 and has loved the Cure for a few years now. He plays electric guitar and tells me stuff about Robert's guitar sound and technique that I never even knew (even though I've been a fan since the early 80's). Such a gift from the heavens. Thank you 🧡
Me and my dad sometimes drive around at night, nowhere specific just cruising. We listen to The Cure, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, Duran Duran etc, he used to listen to them back in the 80's and 90's and now his only daughter loves all those bands. Its nice to bond with your parent/parents over music.
I’m jealous of u people in the comments having nostalgic memories to these songs. My parents did not listen to this kinda stuff so the cure is completely new to me
Nothing quite like vintage Cure! Memories of my youth when this album came out flood me to my core every time I hear it...some painful, some joyous...but always reaching me on a level I'll never quite be able to express. Robert Smith is my idol! Thankfully we share the same birthday.

I'm sure that I've contributed to at least 200 of the 10 million views on this video alone. This song helped me through a really dark time in my life, and one of the most difficult/heart breaking decisions I ever made. Somehow Robert found his place in that mess, and brought me comfort with his voice and lyrics. A true musical and lyrical poet that puts into song so perfectly what the human soul so profoundly feels and thinks about. I'm forever thankful for their contribution and presence. They're one of the best bands out there.
The Cure (let's not forget the other band members that made it possible) sparked a lot of people creative minds, some of them even made it in some way into the music business. Lush or the Cocteau Twins for instance - two of the band Smith likes to play their records.

It's as if I knew somewhere deep down that I'd listen to this song again 25 years later, in a stronger and wiser place, finding comfort in its strangeness as always. Excellent!!! I saw them in St. Paul (3rd row center). It was the closest I've ever sat at a concert and it was well worth it! Robert and the boys are amazing live! I hope to see them again:)
I grew up in the middle of nowhere from the late 70s to early 90s. Thank you Columbia House for being my musical dream come true...and thanks to my mom for paying for it. I still have all my Cure cassette tapes. 🙂
Always take The Cure for their collective creative genius... they're not doom mongers or wrist slashes they're creative, intelligent & musically gifted men who have lived life and tell it through such beautifully crafted music. Robert Smith is an Icon for all time 👍
Everyone needs to get there concert tixs ASAP! This truly is worth ur money. They hardly tour. Like every 10 years. We are not getting younger...Time to get lost in the music and shut the world out
As a young Goth, i came to love The Cure. As Robert stated they have never seen themselves as a Goth band and i have to say, i never did either. But it didnt stop our Goth subculture adopting them as ours, in the early days we made up most of their audience... over time though we knew The Cure grew too big for any subculture let alone Goth. At a Cure concert these days, its great to see generational families and friends, no matter what influences brought them together, enjoying Robert and his beloved The Cure!
He's FOS to deny the goth aspect to his look and the dark toned nature of much of their music; esp. on albums like "Pornography" and "Faith". Didn't stop him from playing into all the $$ they got from goth/darkwave fans.
I have seen The Cure two times, but its been a long time. However, both shows were absolutely brilliant and they didn't fend away from playing some of my obscure non-hit favorites. Good show(s)!!!!

Damn right. His talent and inspiration is little matched. 1978 - 2016 the Cure forever.
He is indeed a talented person, a genius of his time, I feel a lot of respect for him and what he achieved
This song is very hypnotic 😮
Give me your eyes that I might see
The blind man kissing my hands
The sun is humming, my head turns to dust
As he plays on his knees
And the sand and the sea grows
I close my eyes
Move slowly through drowning waves
Going away on a strange day
And I laugh as I drift in the wind
Blind dancing on a beach of stone
Cherish the faces as they wait for the end
A sudden hush across the water
And we're here again
The sand and the sea grows
I close my eyes
Move slowly through drowning waves
Going away on a strange day
My head falls back and the walls crash down
And the sky and the impossible explode
Held for one moment I remember a song
An impression of sound
And then everything is gone forever
A strange day
