why don't you guys just spend 600 dollars a month and move in together in a 2 room apartment. it should be much cleaner and get a open window at least.
Good question! The thing i forgot to explain a bit better in the video is the whole thing about the deposit money for apartments in Korea (specifically in Seoul). Usually, there is a “key“ deposit money that you have to pay in order to rent a place which is a very very large amount and places like goshiwons have little to no deposit money. So renting an apartment can become a bit cost prohibitive between not only the monthly rent itself but the big lump sum that one has to pay initially. Another reason why we decided to stay in a goshiwon is that, a lot of apartments have a 1-2 year contract. We needed the flexibility and the option to leave if we wanted/ needed to. Thanks for watching!
You can find some that start at 3 months and where you can stay after as long as you want, as long as you keep paying rent. The deposit you get back when moving out, so consider that the plane ticket when you leave korea.
I thought I was watching a channel that has like 200k subs. That was a great video, you're hilarious and I love the editing style. I really hope you will keep uploading. Honestly you have it all to become big one day, I'll cheer for that
You're brilliant. I love everything about this video, and every video you've posted so far. I'm moving to South Korea soon for my master's; I'm not one to willingly get out of my comfort zone lol, so the thought I'm moving there on my own overwhelms me. You haven't lived in exactly ideal conditions, but have managed to draw the positive out of your experience, I admire you for that, and I'll try to likewise get the best out of my stay there. Thanks for sharing :)
Thank you so much! Getting out if ones comfort zone is not easy but in my opinion very worth it. I hope you make great new experiences in Korea. I wish you lots of fun and good luck!
Thanks for this video, I'm moving to Korea next month for my exchange year and I'm trying to decide between staying in the dorm and a goshiwon. It's hard to find good information about what it's really like as a temporary situation. I'll be on a low budget too and I have been allocated a dorm, but I don't like the lack of freedom (curfew/no kitchen/no privacy) that it comes with, so it's nice to see that a goshiwon really is a viable option.
I had the same opinion about a dorm (curfew and lack of privacy). Oftentimes it‘s quite a bit more expensive than a goshiwon too (depending on the school tho). Thank you so much for watching and I‘m glad the video was helpful. Have lots of fun in Korea!☺️
@user-io5yy5jc9n I actually lived in a goshiwon for just over a month and although there was some noise I didn't find it to be a stressful experience. Many of my friends are also currently living in goshiwons and haven't had any bad experiences. Although I've heard from classmates that they have had difficulties. I think the important thing is to find one where you feel comfortable, which is the same with any living space. It is very small which can be difficult, and I think that having a window is very important!
girl, you have been staying down struggle street! So glad things have improved. So good that you had your friend with you. Through it all you have maintained a positive attitude. Well done to you both! 😃
So there are bigger goshiwons (9.9m and bigger) at higher prices that are a lot more modern and updated. Some require deposit but usually only up to ₩200,000 ($148).
i only stayed in a goshiwon for like 3 days when i went to seoul (from gwangju) but i hit my hip off of furniture so many times i think i bruised lol. if/when i go back to korea i will look into them as a cheaper long term option
I am planning on going to KLEC at the beginning of 2025, and I really want to take my best friend but she's so hesitant. Doing the move with a friend seems like it was a major help mentally and emotionally-wise. Hope things are on a more positive note for y'all
Hi Yara I found your video by accident and I gotta say I really enjoy watching your video and really love your style! And I love your guys' laughs as well 🤣🤣 *bird noises*. Enjoy Korea to the fullest and this story will be super lovely to reminisce in the future years..! I used to live in a small no window room during uni in my home country Indonesia but that's quite common for student accommodation lol. Looking forward to more of your vlogs!!!!!! Subscribed!!
It is so nice and cool to see this information. You just showed the reality with the cheerfulness and honesty and bautiful smile. The purpose our life is to be Happy'.
They should have that in Vegas . I couldn't find anything under 3,000$ mandatory income to apply for a 1,000$ a month apt . I ended up migrating to Taiwan . I was priced out of my own country!
Amazing video and you’re funny :) enjoy Korea and good luck with school ! Also may I know the good goshiwon place you recommended? Thank you in advance
the part about the bugs really scared me :( please tell me you never had that issue other than when you had that neighbour. i'm gonna live in a goshiwon soon and i think i'll pass out if i see a bug in my room. also, how's the wifi? good enough? thanks for the video! new subscriber here
Me and my friend saw a bug once in a while because it‘s summer and they just get into the house sometimes. I think goshiwons can be prone to bugs a bit more since goshiwons are usually in older buildings. However I do believe that if you keep your room clean (and if you’re careful with food/ open food packages etc.) then you‘ll be fine :) The wifi is quite good, but that could obviously vary from place to place. And thank you very much!!☺️
Sorry to hear that . I think u chose dirty gosiwon . Of course it is hard to recognize thro pictures .most important thing is korean ppl already took the most popular gosiwon n have a lot wating list to get in .so foreigner traveller cant have chance to go a good gosiwon . When u choose gosiwon for travel .just sleep n shower only .but really good price for travel anyway

When owner of place said, your room is not available for yada yada yada, that is a lie. Next time, just go to a different place. Also, since two people do not fit in goshiwon, wouldn't it be better to rent an officetel and two people to stay at a same place.
I‘m swiss-mexican (my dad is swiss and my mom is mexican) I grew up mainly in Switzerland but have lived in both countries. And because I‘m from the german part of Switzerland I speak swiss-german/ german☺️ Thanks for watching!!

Deposit money is completely insane and contracts are long!

$270 actually sounds not that bad...🥲 Here in New York, it would be like $1,500 for that tiny room😑. Anyway, I like your video!
Yes rent in New York is crazy expensive! & thanks a lot!☺️
