Hi from Indiana USA. My first bump at your video. Im an Asian Am senior who have been in the US for over half a century. But I have not forgotten my poor roots from RP. So this is like a blast in the past and memory lane walk for me, and I’ve enjoyed watching it so much. In fact I couldn’t stop laughing at both your quirky commentaries. When one is poor with a goal, there is no such thing as inconvenience. One does what it takes to get out of it to move up to a better standard of life. So very penny counts. This apartment has generous free amenities that can really pile up someone’s ability at saving. Thanks for this video. To some young people just starting out, youre doing critical public service to them which they could appreciate. Imagine if you are desperate at trying to find a place to live affordably in a big city where everything is so cost-prohibitive. A Godsend indeed.
I think the biggest problem with the space other than the lack of windows and ban on guests (poor people need love too, if not more so) is the thickness of the walls. If the walls were thicker the beds and desks could fold up into them and shelf / drawer space could also be created, leaving room for an office chair and maybe even a sofa. Design can go a long way in making a place more comfortable. Hope they clean that window. What is amazing about the space is the free laundry, filtered water, rice, kimchi, and rooftop access. I love that they thought about these things because it actually shows that they care (as well as them keeping the building clean and maintained) and aren't there simply to nickel and dime the poor. I love and appreciate that they are trying their best. Good video over all and hope to see you all make more videos together in the future.
Of course the walls are thin, but it's only really a place for making some basic food, showering, and sleeping. You have to be quiet and considerate of other residents at all times. It's not a place to bring guests over.
I remember looking at Goshiwons in Busan and they were like $300-400 a month back in 2013, so this one is a great deal. The thing about Korea is there are so many 24 hour / late night spaces outside your home, (like PC rooms, cafes , restaurants) all you really need your apartment for is sleeping.
$175 is about 250,000 won, which is very cheap even 10 years ago. Now, the prices in Korea are so high that I can't believe there is a $175.00 Gosiwon. I lived in a very affordable neighborhood outside of Seoul for about two months 10 years ago, and it cost about $200 at that time. Also, in certain areas of Busan or Seoul, the examination center itself is about the same price as the surrounding studio apartment because of tourists or test takers (people who go to the camp academy to take the national exam). It might be a little awkward because it's a translator, so please understand :)
I've just watched the video again. The place where that gosiwon is located is similar to the area I visited 10 years ago. (The area is called Gyeonggi-do, surrounding Seoul.) The buildings and facilities are old, but I can feel that they are managed incredibly neatly, even if they weren't, $175 is a reasonable price, and it seems like a very good condition because the boss cares a lot about it.
Gosiwon was originally a place for people who came from the countryside to study in Seoul to take exams. This test is very difficult, so you will need to study most of the day. So, everyone stays quiet for those studying. The Gosi Examination refers to a high-level national examination, which was previously reserved for level 5 civil servants. If you pass this exam, you can become a high-ranking civil servant. There are three types of examinations: administration, judiciary, and foreign affairs. Even now, it is a Korean system that allows even poor people to become high-ranking public officials if they pass this exam.

Never heard of a goshiwon before (I'm in Canada). It's not so bad and very reasonably priced. At least the tenants are not homeless and out on the streets. The tour was very interesting and fun, and you both speak very good English! Good luck!
This type of business is quite common around the world. Some will simply call them dormitory or room rentals. What surprises me the most is the lack of egress windows (in case of a fire) and the size. As in my jurisdiction a (bed) room can't be window less nor smaller than 81 sq ft. The lay out is very 2 dimensional, most places now rise the bed (4-5 ft of the ground) and offer a work desk and more storage underneath. By elevating the bed you end up adding almost 15-20sq ft and they could thicken the walls (insulation/soundproofing) without losing more living space.

9:30 "micro-organism friends" Well that's one way to put it! hahahaha ^ ^ I always have so much mould in my bathroom and I really never thought of it that way!!~
One small thing which will make a real improvement, change the wardrobe door hinge to the side near the wall so that it is easier to access. These rooms are the lifeline of many and it is good to see the owners making up a real effort to keep the place clean and decent despite the low low rent so that they are not living in slum conditions. Keep it up.

Lived in goshiwons for years as a student. I honestly loved it as I like small rooms and it makes me feel safe. The only downside was most of the places has no windows, so if a fire starts.....your dead! but except that, I loved it. Mostly free rice, ramyeon and kimchi. yum
*Not all go gosiwon are like this!!* Years ago before living in Korea I went there for a vacation, a long vacation… stayed for 2 months. Staying that long in hotels would just not be possible and I knew about gosiwon before I went. I had some help searching for and reserving a room from a Korean speaker. When I got there the pictures were deceiving, it was so dirty and you definitely don’t understand just how small it is until you get there. I stuck it out as I only stayed a month then stayed with a friend in busan, and used air bnb in Jeju and Seoul afterward. It really is just a place to sleep temporarily, it’s nice to see how well your friends family maintains theirs but as a kinda warning to any foreigners planning a vacation you really should visit the site beforehand if you’re looking to stay in a gosiwon.
i wish they had these cheap basic rooms in the west. these probably keep a lot of people off the streets. if you're a student or a low earner on a tight budget, what more do you need? Though this set up could only work in places like Korea or Japan. These cheap rooms would attract nothing but trouble in America and other western countries.

The window has some mould - it's a nature room, people are afraid of leaving alone so they have some friends. The trees are sideways on this wallpaper - it's art. I love her marketing skills 😄
In the United States these are called boarding houses or group homes and some of them rent rooms from $50 a month to $1,050 a month. Thanks for the neat video.
Jimmy, your life and your friends are such fun! You should run tours for us fans to come and see your home and have a good time. I would pay several dollars for that!

The introvert's/recluse's dream home lol as someone who basically now lives out there room I see this as an absolute W, better than no home at all and comes with basic necessities and free food?!? Also when I see people like you 2 around the world it gives me hope for the future and helps me still believe in true love & happiness in this universe
I'm an introvert too, but I meed somewhere to put all my shit. I own more than 6 things.... 😂😂😂
Please do more colabs with her, you guys have the same energy and it is so fun to watch haha
What a pretty and fun girl. I also like how she is a hard worker for her family. Definitely my kind of girl! We need more Goshiwons in this world that is for sure. Simple but safe shelter to get people off the street even if they only work part time.

This by far has been one of your best Collabs ! Love the rest, but the energy in this one was dope!
this might be the best goshiwon video on youtube. light hearted, entertaining, and informative.
Korea also has other housing solutions that are cheap such as 24 hour spas/gyms where you can sleep overnight in a common room and put a mat down for 7 usd/night. They have everything you need such as internet computer room, restaurant or vending machines and of course, lockers and gym/spa/shower facilities.

Coming from another family owning several rental property of same need and above, her family were graceful to manage the amnesties with such hotelier mindset✨
I like Yummy's vibe. She gives off a natural vibe on camera
This is so nice! This residence is lovely actually. I love the family working together. Thank you for hosting thank you to the parents that own the building for allow the cameras in to share this as well. ❤
I love the cozy atmosphere in this small apartment/hotel! I love that the owners are the maintenance and that the tenants are all so respectful of the common space. I believe that a small town feeling is here and if I am visiting the area, I would enjoy a stay!
oh, it's that chill gamer girl 👍

We desperately need accommodation like this in London. One thing I miss about my time in Seoul is my Goshiwon. My Goshiwon had it's own shower too. And it was so cheap compared to literally anything else here in London that you can rent.
Won't work in western countries . people simply don't respect each other's privacy, coupled with poor behavior will make communal rental places like this into trash

Good humor, great energy, beautiful face, and a building owner's daughter, what more can you ask for?

I've seen a few of your vids and this one made me subscribe. Your honesty made me realise just how humble you are. You are a genuine human and that's hard to come by. You have my respect.
Take Yummy out to an all you can eat place some time!!! I love that she's back, the way that you met her was awesome, too. I love that you're so personable, you invite people back and they always agree, like Sunjin, Rie, and now Yummy. If you invited me to hang out I'd 100% say yes. Hanging out with Uncle Jimmy would be a dream come true
SHES SO AWESOME JIMMYY shes my fave friend youve brought on the channel so far, ur humor flows together so well
Yummy is definitely a plus on the channel, so humble of her to take time from her uber popular twitch stream to clean and hang out with our uncle JImmy
Things like this makes people humble. Everyone should be grateful everyday.
Great vibes between you and this girl. She seems funny and genuine…
i love your personality so much jimmy it’s just funny
😊 I'll show more of it in my videos
Goshiwon are pretty decent. It has security and free basic needs: rice, ref, water, has a clean common toilet and bath. All good. We can thrive here!!!
Thank you uncle Jimmy and aunt Yummy. It was a nice video! I will definitely visit this place if I will be on a budget in Seoul
Yummy is such a fun guest! Please do more videos with her! :)
Crazy how you ran into this girl randomly in a internet cafe, and now you're doing a collab. I love when things come together naturally. Now she should have more followers for her twitch.
I love her vibe and your pairing together, Jimmy! More videos together please!
Really good for cheap housing. Honestly amazing compared to options in other parts of the world. Free food and utilities, you gotta pay for that separately in other countries.
No it’s not, you get depressed after
@@elliescozyy303 You will be even more depressed if you don't have a place to live in and free food.
Locker 420 heheheh. Glad to see Yummy back for another video! Also....average rent in Korea is still cheaper than in my small city in the US 😭
Haha we also don't make nearly as much as small town people in the US 😅 and an average room is TINY

Never heard of a goshiwon before (I'm in Canada). It's not so bad and very reasonably priced. At least the tenants are not homeless and out on the streets. The tour was very interesting and fun, and you both speak very good English! Good luck!
Instead of being ashamed of her place she brags about it then laughs covering her mouth realizing the absurdity I love her❤
This type of business is quite common around the world.
Hey bro, you have such a nice chemistry with this girl and you look so organic. Plus she has a sense of humor and seems to be a really good person to hang out with. Not talking about her being caring. Try her out
I wonder if the neighbors complain whe someone is having sex
Try her out, yikes she is human being. That’s so disrespectful
She's so down to earth and a good daughter. Inspiring
shes a keeper. 7 years in China and i never met a soul like that. Went to the wrong country.
@@shadowmod3those girls are everywhere. You just met wrong people
Very nice and reasonably priced the place , I enjoy watching both of you. Wishing you every success in the days ahead
This is perfect for young people. We need these in the US.
I'd pay an extra 100 for the room with the opening window. That's a game changer for your sanity. It seems like theres not neighbors beside it.
It’s good to keep it from feeling like a jail cell haha
9:30 "micro-organism friends"
Well that's one way to put it! hahahaha ^ ^
I always have so much mould in my bathroom and I really never thought of it that way!!~
She is so pretty and I love her enthusiasm can't help but love her
I love these places it’s a great chance for people who is pulling their life together
One small thing which will make a real improvement, change the wardrobe door hinge to the side near the wall so that it is easier to access. These rooms are the lifeline of many and it is good to see the owners making up a real effort to keep the place clean and decent despite the low low rent so that they are not living in slum conditions. Keep it up.
We need more Jimmy and Yummy content 👀
Awesome video! I would live there. Its cheap and has all the necessities. Its definitely better then living on the streets. Free food, laundry, WIFI... I'll be grateful to live here if I'm on a budget.
That goshiwon looks way better than those in the documentaries that I watched even the cheapest one
My first time watching here! This was such a cute engaging interesting video! My kids grew up taking Tae Kwon Do but we never had the opportunity to visit Korea. I will watch more of your videos!
Yikes! That mold going on the window shades is scary! Sounds like they are renovating. Good luck!
That’s very cool! I just worry if there’s a fire. Each room should have a window or way to get to the outside.
They do have fire extinguishers in each room so that helps
Living in place like this is my dream. Even if i had enough money to afford normal apartments, i still would try this as good memory lol
Goshiwon ❌
Strangers from hell ✅
That drama gave me so much stress
😅😅😅😅
Oh you have taste
That's a good series.
Do u guys know of any similar k drama
It's awesome they have such affordable places to live.
i wish they had these cheap basic rooms in the west. these probably keep a lot of people off the streets. if you're a student or a low earner on a tight budget, what more do you need? Though this set up could only work in places like Korea or Japan. These cheap rooms would attract nothing but trouble in America and other western countries.
8:48 I love the jokes that you randomly sneak in so much lol
Oh and the gamer girl too, she streams, she speaks English, she cleans, she cooks, she is just perfect for you Uncle Jimmy. I hope that this is the beginning of another Kdrama
This is awesome. 🤩I would hope that in Finland we would have those too cos we have minimal limits how small your appartment can be and it is 20 m3 and 16 to students, and those are hard to come by. So cheapest rent is about 300€😢
I love your lofi tracks so much. Keep up the hard work!
I would love to live somewhere like this, minimal and cheap I could save a lot this way. I don't think anything comes close in the UK
We need a documentary about the mysterious man 406
"Even at poverty level, we still take care of ourselves"😂😂.. Now that's funny.
She's super charismatic. I can listen to her talk all day.
The window has some mould - it's a nature room, people are afraid of leaving alone so they have some friends.
The trees are sideways on this wallpaper - it's art.
I love her marketing skills 😄
0:12 yes I'm behind you
I stayed in a goshiwon for two years. I will NEVER do that again. After a while, you'll lose your mind.
Damn bro Jimmy got the prettiest friends
In the United States these are called boarding houses or group homes and some of them rent rooms from $50 a month to $1,050 a month. Thanks for the neat video.
Jimmy, your life and your friends are such fun! You should run tours for us fans to come and see your home and have a good time. I would pay several dollars for that!
