I live here Downtown and all it is, is Bar after Bar after Bar. and shitty cover non country music. no one has any! talent, Nashville is for those who like to waist there life on Beer, Sex, and shitty cover music. If I could, I'd move down to San Diego, Much better for country there. that's where all the old good country singers live like Emmylou here.
Nashville is not what it used to be. now it's a drinking town with a country problem. New York has got a better live country music scene. same goes with just about any major stop between Dallas and California

Such a beautiful song....Emmylou is so great. God love her. Everyone gives Merle, Willie, Waylon and so many others their props which they certainly deserve but Emmylou has been at it since the early seventies. She paid her dues just like all the rest.

I have been a huge fan of Emmylou since 1980 and she is definitely my favorite singer. A strange thing happened today. I was sitting in a parking lot listening to the Red Dirt Girl CD which I have not really listened to much. I sat and listened to this song and it really hit me deep down. How had I missed it that this is truly a musical work of genius, both in songwriting and performance? The truly great ones can use music and lyrics to reach deep down into our heart and soul. What a blessing to the world she is.

My daughter and I sang this on the docks of Annapolis, MD about 10 years ago with my trio. My daughter was 8 and loved this song. She took it over and did such a beautiful job. Great song, great story...always be there for your friends.

Please! I love Emmylou but she was more than 10 years into her career before she even attempted writing. She has written a few good songs but nearly all of her best recordings were whiny someone else. There is nothing wrong with that. She’s a superb vocalist. But let’s not pretend she’s Dolly Parton as a songwriter.

She has the uncanny ability to take songs others have written and to sing them better than anyone. IMHO She's the best female country singer than anyone, bar none, except maybe Patsy Cline. She's won 14 Grammy awards over the years.
@@captainkangaroo4301 I believe she wrote some of the songs that were on her on her only folk album, which came out in 1969 and didn't sell. She was about 22 then. Her beautiful tribute to Gram Parsons, Boulder to Birmingham, written by Emmylou and Bill Danoff, was on her first country album, Pieces of the Sky, which came out in 1975.

Ms. Harris may never escape her beauty or the compulsion of the rest of us to comment on it. Between God and her gene pool, she’s been gifted that blessing and curse. What is more subtle and far more impactful and so much more powerful are her values, talent, dedication to beautiful causes. This song easily is one of my favorites by any artist and she sings the story so well that her voice echoes the melody and lyric between my ears long after she’s done singing.
