THis podcast got me thinking. I dont normally chip in but I have. There is something about mindset that at times you cant change. I have ME/CFS. I could bench 150kg for 10, 250kg squats for 10, no steriods, aged 23. At 26 I contracted glandular fever,. I never have recovered from this but at that time instead progressed to post viral fatigue syndrome to chronic fatigue syndrome. I could go on and on....but reality is the obstacle of chronic disease for me is about working with it and my limitations *which there are many* while console the loss of not being able to work out at all, and find activities that do bring joy and feel good. This mainly is yoga, pmr, imagery, walking, swimming, and learning.
What an amazing episode and individual she is. Gripped me from the get-go. Her way of being and attitude is truly inspiring and I really respect it. Looking forward to seeing her upcoming projects and I will make it a point to watch All Quiet on the Western Front. Thank you Lesley and Rich for this conversation!!
The Scottish Rocket has long been a role model for XTERRA athletes young and old. We are very happy to see her on your podcast, her story deserves to be heard! We'll miss you at Worlds this year Lesley!
Brilliant episode. Inspiring and empowering and so many a'has about the availability of diverging passions into a truly unique and passionate life path... Book Bought !x
Loved this episode. What stands behind great art is the passion and belief. I tend to easily give up on projects because I do not follow my heart in the process of choosing. That's how I chose my current career path. I am just starting to connect with what gives me energy and happiness so this episode gave a lot of tips.
Agreed! I thought this was the best episode ever but had to read the little blurb at the beginning to figure out her name. I don’t understand why it wasn’t in the the title!! Told everyone I know to watch this one!
OMG, thank you so much for this conversation! As a kid, I was fairly talented in cycling, played the drums in a metal band, and loved creative writing. Everybody was trying to pull me in just one direction. Eventually, I ended up in advertising as a very structured creative (copywriter to creative director) but hated the unstructured structures in most agencies. After 20 years I became self-employed, then started a business that deals with health in very creative ways - and I'm finally truly happy!
I come from a Scottish -American family. We were taught that, and it has its positives, but it eventually runs out because it's outside programming. I'm a Scottish warrior woman though. We were taught we were equal to men; one needs a very secure man to be in a romantic relationship. .
This highlights how discipline in sports nurtures creativity and mindset for success. It covers achievements, upbringing, challenges, and the power of perseverance in sports and creativity. The interview showcases the connection between mental strength, resilience, and achievements. Amazing episode! 💪🏻💯
shes is very unique for sure. To be such a great competitor and winner - at that standard - with such a tough sport is immense. THen to have a move on Netflix. Thats super wild. Glad to get a Scottish person on the show. I cant think of many in the past. Great. I was scrolling down the messages and it doenst take long before you get a comment that says something like - 'I am william wallaces's 14th cousin'. Which is also great....haha.
I think the title "setbacks make you stronger" may be inaccurate, as she was very strong from the get-go. From the very beginning, she says she always had the drive. I do admire her drive and success.
Best interview yet. Compelling story, inspiring women… “ stay true to your intention, focus on why this story important to tell.” I resonate so much with this women’s story of Lyme and mold infection, and the balance of athletic and creative expression. she is really living her life, I’m so glad to know this person exists in this world. I’m curious how her lineage of Scottish warriors factors into her drive and way of living in this world? Being Irish, I know this is part of my grit and determination.
Just fabulous interview. What an amazing, resilient strong ass Celtic lass. Listing to Leslie's Scottish accent for 2hrs was bliss. She really is a our modern seanachai
You have to ask yourself; "Who am I doing this for?" It is important to answer this question honesly. It may show up later as a physical ailment. Look at Celine Dion. She seemed to push herself for years to be excellent. The question is, was it to be accepted b her fans, her father, her family, her husband? Sooner or later it has be to your satisfaction. The body will tell you.
It is interesting to listen and think while my hands are busy with hand- dyed yarn making balls for later knitting see how far my mind gets away from the topic. It doesn't have to make any sense for others me knitting as it is enough I am happy with and no one else. I can start less with sport now a days even in the past I was very active this way an addiction can change. It is not like Gabor Mate says in one of his interview I don'r have to end up buying at the same store or the same books. You simply make yourself addictive giving the books away unless there is none left. I only own now one book from whole big shelves. The book I have just bought a month ago. May be the gluten also inspirates you as a topic. The book is written by Dr. Osborne, also on You Tube. Thank you. The Nasty one.
Interestingly enough, Im an artist who is a runner who competes and a triathlete. Im not in agreement with the separation of artist and athlete. I do find that goal setting is similar to both .
Maybe this is just me, but I found this episode sort of a grind to get through. Don't get me wrong- She is inspiring and truly a unicorn! But I felt like the same sentiment was being repeated over and over throughout the whole episode without many "gleans" into anything other than much of the same I.e. discipline in art and sport are symbiotic...
At the start of the video she gave a really good reason why a woman should take the pill 😂. If only you had a passion for speaking correctly. You know where someone can actually understand you.
one of the best episodes ever, thank you Rich for getting this one made. Highly recommend her book too, what a woman! what a human!

Such a refreshing conversation for anyone who views their sporty side and arty side as being on opposing teams.

What an amazing life thus far for Lesley! I enjoyed her openness in this conversation.
"Be obsessed to be every day the best version of yourself" 🙏Thanks Rich and Lesley 💛
I'm loving this!
She is amazing. Love this one. Didn’t know of her was just blown away
This is a GREAT conversation. Seriously appreciating this interview!
Brilliant episode. Inspiring and empowering and so many a'has about the availability of diverging passions into a truly unique and passionate life path... Book Bought !x
Thank you Rich for continuing to set the bar !
One of the most fascinating episodes yet 🙌🙌
One of my favorite episodes. I'll listen more than once.
She works intelligently and learns from experience, not simply exertion. Exertion by itself doesn't work.
Loved this episode. What stands behind great art is the passion and belief. I tend to easily give up on projects because I do not follow my heart in the process of choosing. Awesome interview but I wonder why you never seem to put the name of the guest in the title?
Agreed! I thought this was the best episode ever but had to read the little blurb at the beginning to figure out her name. I don’t understand why it wasn’t in the the title!! Told everyone I know to watch this one!
What a great interview!
Great interview, she’s incredible

Scottish people definitely have an in-built toughness about them good interview thanks .
❤ omg - thank you, both of you for such an amazing / inspiring conversation.

Rich, have you watched Braveheart? Good prep for your follow-up interview. She's gonna win an Oscar now, with one arm. :)
this was fascinating.

What is your take on fighting anxiety and ADHD etc?

... and more knowledgeable and understanding . All has to happen.

TOM CRUISE = LEGEND
Interestingly enough, Im an artist who is a runner who competes and a triathlete. Im not in agreement with the separation of artist and athlete. I do find that goal setting is similar to both .
You don't' have to pick art or sport; there are alot of similarities; physical technique being one.

It’s not just you. It felt like a whole lot of nothing.
@yogini326 thank you, I'm glad it's not just me! The comments so far made me feel like it was...
So, I never really got why they tried to shut her out of the Oscars? We’re her EPs afraid her presence would make the film seem less German?
Why are you two so far from each other lol
At the start of the video she gave a really good reason why a woman should take the pill 😂. If only you had a passion for speaking correctly. You know where someone can actually understand you.
I hope I'm misunderstanding your comment. It sounds extremely nasty but I hope I am wrong 😅
