I watched this live from my hotel room the night before the Famous Monster Convention. I first met Cushing in the the hotel elevator when he was on his way to the NBC studio for the show.
The show was actually broadcast November 9, 1975. in the beginning Snyder mentions 10 years to the day of the big black out which was November 9, 1965. He also states this is a rerun.
Just came across this in a transcription of this interview in Famous Monsters issue 133 and now here I am. Nice to be able to actually see it for myself.
This would be just after, or just before Cushing shot Star Wars. It's interesting to see him across the pond in his later years. He was always very homesick when he moved to L.A in 1939-40. Check out his great performance with Laurel and Hardy in 'Chump at Oxford'. A wonderful malevolent turn. Prior to his horror career.
Thanks - really wonderful to see this again. Mr Cushing indeed had just finished his filming on Star Wars in late April, but the world was still pre-SW at that point.
The irony is Cushing peaked in popularity one year later with Star Wars. Known as the only character who could boss Vader around-----Vader didn't even trust the emperor as much as Cushing's character
This was a lot of fun, but Leonard Wolf came off like a pompous ass. Peter Cushing outshines all of the assembled. Pure 1970s with Synder's cigarette smoke drifting into Peter's eyes.
I just watched this and thought who is that rude guy talking down to Peter Cushing about the "sexuality of wooden stakes" 😂 and then saw this comment and thought "ahh...yep I'm not the only one who thought this then." 😂....Cheers! 🍻
What the so called expert on Dracula didn't say was that in Romania Vlad is considered a national hero because he fought off the Ottoman/Turks to keep that part of Europe from falling under Muslim control. While he was ruthless and did Impale lots of folks, most of the horrible stories come from the Turks who without question embellished much of their stories.
That Schlitz commercial is really something. I can't see anyone deciding to buy Schlitz because bar patrons went down a slide with twinkly lights, but you never know. I'd love to see Archie Bunker and his pals on that thing...
It quickly becomes very obvious that Tom was totally unfamiliar with Peter Cushing and had never seen any of his movies. Actually, the scariest part of this particular show was Tom’s hair. I’m glad one of the guests mentioned “Nosferatu,” but I wished they had examined it more closely.
I don't know if you take requests, but I'd love to see the Tomorrow episode from May 4, 1978 in which Tom Snyder interviews game show hosts Bob Barker, Jack Barry, and Allen Ludden.
Snyder always had some great guests, but boy, was he a weak interviewer. His questions were disjointed, often with factual errors, and he talked over his guests too often. Don't mean to disrespect someone who's past, but he was tough to watch at times.
It's wonderful to see Peter Cushing in an interview.

Wow!
Mr. Cushing was a class act! I really miss him but thankfully we’ll always have his work.
I was at that convention and got to meet him and speak with him. One of the best times of my life!

This was great, thanks for putting it up. It was great to see Peter Cushing, he is one of my favorite actors.
William H Macy in that opening commercial?
Keystone Stacker totally!!
I wonder if this is the earliest appearance of him on anything.
Oh geez!
The song “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” cane around about this time.
You betcha.
This was my favorite show when I was a teenager. So awesome to see Tom Snyder again
What a great and fun discussion! I love finding gems like this on UA-cam!
That's William H. Macy (Bill Macy) of "Fargo" and "Shameless" fame in the opening commercial regarding the Chicagoland Job Mart! He was so cute!
I would much rather listen to Peter Cushing than any "experts". I used to watch Tom Snyder in my teen years, his program was usually very interesting.

Thanks for the show I saw this when I was 14 in 75.

Nice to see Peter Cushing
TELEVISIONARCHIVES interesting fellow
I agree, Peter Cushing was a great actor.
The irony is Cushing peaked in popularity one year later with Star Wars. Known as the only character who could boss Vader around-----Vader didn't even trust the emperor as much as Cushing's character
Jane Pauley at the beginning plugging WMAQ news before she was Today host!
Yum-Yum.

I wonder what she had to do to get that job.
@@dtaylor939 She had to be a great news presenter.
@@allendracabal0819 Get real, Chad.
So this was taped about 5-6 months before Peter Cushing filmed Star Wars.
No - this was a rebroadcast. Originally aired Friday, November 7th 1975.

@@suckafreeT308 Being on the receiving end of all that Received Pronunciation was probably making Pompous Academic feel insecure :D
Was that William H Macy in the Chicagoland Job Mart commercial at the beginning?
Time to go to H-Mart and catch that blue light special

Especially weird because said "expert" was actually of Romanian descent.
Thank you, I thought that was Bill Macy, Tom Snyder one of a kind. Thank you.
Yes, it was Bill Macy!
Peter Cushing is a hoot!
That he is :) An adorable silly fella for sure
Peter Cushing was always fun and interesting to watch whether it be onscreen or in talk shows, like his dear friend Sir Christopher Lee.
NBC ads interrupted by UA-cam ads.
The Mummy and the Creature from the Black Lagoon should have been discussed also!
This was a year before Peter Cushing was in Star Wars.
I feel like Tom starts out thinking Peter's a bit of a weirdo and kind of warms up to him over the course of the episode.
Great episode. How about those ads, tho?
Wilhuff Tarkin ❤

The opening commercial actor was a young Willam H. Macy!
I was a week old on June 18 , 1976. Holy hell. 🥴🤯
This show was originally recorded in 1975.
It quickly becomes very obvious that Tom was totally unfamiliar with Peter Cushing and had never seen any of his movies.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 summer's eve I believe Peter, he had a great Monday
Scarier than any monster movie? Tom Snyder's hair!!!!!
why is nobody smoking? Tom smoked like a chimney
oops now he is,,, that's better
VERY SAD THAT LON CHANEY JR. IS NOT BROUGHT UP ONCE.
Wait until Cushing appears in a small movie named “Star Wars”
King Kong? Mummy!
I Guess Tom Never Remembered Much Of The Mummy Or The Gillman? The Creature From The Black Lagoon.
That’s ducking William h Macy in the beginning Jesus Christ what a video
10:15 - John Haigh dissolved his victims in acid and was not a vampire, "psychopathetic" or otherwise
He didn't know that another New York blackout would happen the next year.
31:54 Will Mackenzie from The Bob Newhart show fame.
Testosterone makes hair grow. That's why in the 70's...
Was that booze and soda that was in their glasses for the guests?
It's fentanyl
RC for Cush
The actress’ name was Karen Black, you dope!
The movie was Trilogy of Terror
"VD AWARENESS"!!!!??????
King Kong rumored and debated of being a lesbian?
Crazy but I love Peter Cushing's answer, "Does it matter?".
great watch, but one thing i take form this, how do americans put up with all these commercials?! they're nonstop
Commercial breaks are a lot longer and more frequent now than in 1976.
Way worse now
SQUOZE????

You can tell he thought of himself more as a personality than as an interviewer.
Show is pretty damn boring like most of his shows but I do like the commercials reminds me of all the junk I bought in the 70s.
