I remember meeting him in 2013 I was 14 years old and I remember being next in line to meet him, absolutely terrified to meet one of my idols. I was wearing a 90s slappy mask and I was holding my slappy dummy and when he saw me he went “haha! Oooohhh no…” 😂 I was worried I made him mad but he was actually amused and when I asked him to sign my slappy dummy he was hesitant and said “you want me to ruin a perfectly good dummy?!” But in the end he signed the dummy, my mask and a couple of my favorite goosebumps books. He was so nice and I can’t believe I held myself together and when I walked away, that’s when I broke down and started crying tears of joy. I’ll cherish that day for the rest of my life. Thank you Mr. Stine! 🖤
I'm so glad R.L. Stine is finally having some spotlight. I still have my pile of Goosebumps books, they were a drug as a kid. The love for reading and horror came from those books, no question about it. Those covers sparked my imagination. Thanks, Jake. Great interview as always.
I was too old for Goosebumps when they became popular, but I was in the 8th grade (1995!) when I got my first Fear Street series novel and plowed through those and his other YA lit for the next couple of years. Very fond memories, and grateful for this guy!
I read Harry Potter later in highschool. But R.L Stine? This dude was the first author I ever read and was fully invested in. I remember my auntie saw me reading "The Haunted Mask' and asked me if I liked Goosebumps and I told her that I loved it. The next time I saw her, she gave a whole box filled to the brim with her Goosebumps collection because she was a middle school teacher and she left Goosebumps books for her kid to borrow and read for English class
This was my first time seeing an interview with Mr Stein. I was always too scared to read his books. I have to say though, this was a really great interview. Host did a wonderful job being respectful and excited around someone that clearly had a large impact in his own life, while still letting the host talk and tell their own stories.
The man is a legend alongside writers like Roald Dahl, Maurice Sendak, and Beverly Cleary. He introduced 60s and 70s horror pastiche to children who were looking for something with an edge, with a bite.
I am pushing 40 and I recall that time. I love RL. I got into horror due to RL. Really, he just did great with the book. Look super high art his book are not, but they are awesome. Beast from the East was my favorite. He has a wonderful sense of humor and doesn't take himself to seriously.
@@solidsnake58 he’s also pretty excited about talking and maybe he can’t control it. I would think most interviews are like that you come to hear the questions and ask them and you get carried away as a fan Jake seems like a huge fan he must’ve had a really fun time interviewing rl.
Yes I agree, 'oh my days indeed!' And 'oh my stars and garters' I might add. For good measure 'heavens to betsy' and 'good gracious as well'. Also 'great scott!' And 'for crying out loud' am I right?!
I was writing a book years ago called "The Big Book of Messed Up Stuff" to put it censored. I somehow ended up with R.L.'s email. I asked him for an interview and he kindly denied me that interview because he was in the middle of writing three books. I interviewed many people, but it never came off the ground because that was a crucial part of my life. It's okay though. He was very kind and was very busy. I was just happy he emailed me back, even if it wasn't him I felt I connected to a part of my childhood. Little me was very happy that day.
That's interesting. I love to hear about the work ethic of highly successful people, especially the few successful writers today. It's both encouraging and scary to know that in order to hot RL Stine levels of success (or to even come within the vicinity of his success), you're going to have to get serious and start putting pen to paper a lot more than you're used to. Most writers grind away at a single story, and Stine has an insane output while working on 3 at one time. I'd bet he treats his writing life like a rigid day in the office, with strict hours set aside for each project and more time set aside for business matters.
I wish he would have taken the time for you. I get he's a busy man and we'll kindof weird but the writers always seem to be and that's ok. The books wouldn't be as good I don't think if they weren't but I really wish he would have took the time for you but thank you for being so kind in your comment. That shows how wonderful of a person you are!! You are Fantastic. I probably wouldn't be so nice lol but your totally right with your reply. Very professional!!
Thank you for bringing out the old Tim Jacobus illustrations and Scholastic books for the interview. They look so much better than the reissued books that have new artwork on them.
The Goosebumps books are the only books I've ever read. As a kid I was obsessed with them when they came out. I even have a custom book with my own name as the main character 😂
This would be great if the interview would shut up and let Mr. Stine talk. Good lord, man, you got an interview with the great man himself! Let him speak!
Great questions Jake I just wish you asked him about the FNAF series! I want to know what he thinks about the phenomenon of that series since it’s had such a similar impact as Goosebumps.
Cool to see authors on here. Granted, it would be even cooler to see *unknowns* interviewed in lieu of the top 1%... who've already made millions and aren't struggling or what not. 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨ "Before I start, I must see my end. Destination known, my mind's journey now begins. Upon my chariot, heart and soul's fate revealed. In time, all points converge; hope's strength, resteeled. Uggh I appreciate the interviewers enthusiasm, but this is just a little hard to listen to cause he keeps stepping over Mr. Stine’s answers 😬 I understand he’s trying to hit all the notes and ask all the questions, but it doesn’t feel natural
I think he's an artist and any artist that I know of is in a lack of better words weird. Rather it be painting, making movies, writing etc. Just weird and I love it but your opinion is totally valid for sure. God bless

I met RL Stine 2 years ago at a book signing and he was genuinely the nicest guy I've ever met.
How many assholes do you know then?
Awh! I’d love to meet him to

Every kid in the 90's loved these books, I remember trading them almost like trading cards when I was in elementary school.

my childhood.
thank you Mr. R.L. Stine!
Love Goosebumps since childhood!
I could listen to this conversation for hours. 💕

What a class act, he's so modest for how much of a legend he is.
Childhood hero and an absolute legend!

Some years back, I started to recollect the original 90s Goosebumps books. I am currently only missing four of the original 62 titles.
Goosebumps and Fear Street was such a massive part of my childhood.
R.L. Stine is 81 years old. He looks quite good for his age.
Oh my days, let the man speak instead of interrupting him every 10 secs! Great writer though, legend ❤
I could be wrong, but from watching these junkets I got the impression Jake gets a short window to ask his questions.

Wasn’t so bad. He stops himself from talking to give Stine the floor many times.

Is the true title
The Big Book of Fucked Up Shit
?
@@SlickA10Homepage yes it is. There was a reason behind that title and I didn't tell Stine that's what it was called lol
Thus was awesome to watch.
I still have all my Fear Street books.🎉😊
Thank you for bringing out the old Tim Jacobus illustrations and Scholastic books for the interview. They look so much better than the reissued books that have new artwork on them.
This is the best interview of RL Stein I've ever seen!
He is a legend
The Goosebumps books are the only books I've ever read. As a kid I was obsessed with them when they came out. I even have a custom book with my own name as the main character 😂
Yep, amazing writer.
R.L. Stine looks and sounds great.
He's the reason I got into horror writing
First time see what he looks like. I LOVE his work!!
I was a member of the goosebumps fan club as a kid, and this led me into reading and enjoying Stephen king and horror in general. Love ya Mr. Stein!
Why I love horror films and why I love writing
One of the best authors. I still remember a nightmare I had about Slappy when I was a kid… I’m almost 32 now. lol.
You know what's funny? I started reading Stephen King at 7 or 8 and then R.L.Stine in my twenties. 😅🤷♀️
His new comic books are soo good.
GOOSEBUMPS rocks!
This would be great if the interview would shut up and let Mr. Stine talk. Good lord, man, you got an interview with the great man himself! Let him speak!

I read these as an adult.
He looks almost the same as he did when I was a kid.
I'd like to see him collaborate with Scott Cawthon.
Surprises me they don't talk about each other more often, then again, they have their own thing to do.
Almost sprained my finger clicking
What happened to the HULU Goosebumps show from last year? Did it not get a season 2??
Season 2 comes out in January. A teaser trailer dropped a couple days ago.
Uggh I appreciate the interviewers enthusiasm, but this is just a little hard to listen to cause he keeps stepping over Mr. Stine’s answers 😬 I understand he’s trying to hit all the notes and ask all the questions, but it doesn’t feel natural
Thanks to r.l stein I’m into Stephen king and dean koontz. And very into macabre stories… thanks for warping my mind so young
The interviewer is a little to much in his face. He should talk slower and dial it back a bit.

@@Parkinsonm64 Look, if I met RL Stine I may be a bit skittish as well. I grew up on his old books.
RL Stine > Stephen King
Always wanted to meet r l but as of late not much money coming in. Always has been my dream...maybe one day......
I am opposite of R.L. Stine!
Dude ripped off Are You Afraid Of The Dark and King. Now his new shit is ripping off Stranger Things.
I thought he had died twice already.
R.L. Stine > Stephen King. Don't @ me.
NEVER compare RL Stine to liberal wwirdo Stephen King. Stephen King suxks ducks
How do you know R.L Stine isn't a liberal?Stephen rightfully criticised Trump. If you can't handle that then you don't value free speech.
This guy is as old as Biden and doesn't have white hair 😅
Hair dye exists....
Stephen King is a training bra for Clive Barker
