After doing so much research into desks that suit my needs, after about a week and a half I settled on a manual-height-adjustable desk frame with live edge on top. Then BAM UA-cam hit me with this 🤟 This was exactly what I needed to understand exactly what I wanted. Thank you for this 🤟
@@runthejoules i ordered it, and 1 year later it's still sitting upright ready to be used in my desk project.... Need to get around to it one of these days.
If you didn’t know, you can currently get a butcher block that’s about 98 inches at ikea it seems for $300 if you choose to have it in walnut which is honestly quite a steal if you ask me, though you can get it cheaper if you chose any of there other wood options.
so the Jarvis hand crank frame is no longer available (at least in Canada). I ended up going with the Flexispot Pro Plus Standing Desk (E7) with C shaped frame as it was one of the only ones I could find that has the c-shape. I thought this was an important distinction from the typical frame with the leg in the middle. So far it's pretty solid, a little bit of wobble when at full height but from what I've read you can't avoid this with standing desks unless you get one of the ones with 4 legs (Deskhaus Apex for example) which are very pricey.
This is awesome, do you have the measurements in terms of position on the desk for the placement of the speaker stands and monitor stand? I’m looking to replicate! Thanks ❤
I am glad my choice in using Interbuild acacia wood from home depot for a setup I made last year was validated with same reason as your video! Looking good!
How's your desk holding up today? I'm looking at the reviews for the Teak live edge butcher's block on Home Depot and there are many complaints and pics of splintered wood and poor quality. I'd love to do this, but the reviews are making me wary.
So far so good for me. I did oil it when I got it like they recommend, so maybe that has helped. I also use it for an office desk and not a kitchen island, so it sees a lot less hard usage than in that kind of situation. Hope that helps!
@@runthejoules Why the casters? Do you really need to move the desk that often? Love it btw, just curious about your decision since I'm debating adding casters to my desk setup as well. But I'm cautious because I feel like it might make the desk more unstable when fully extended? And any unevenness on the floor is greater than if you spread the weight of the table across the full foot.
(I used to work for an aforementioned company) how many times did you have to reorder the table top? 😂 we had costumers have to reorder all the time because wood counter tops came split all the time. So, there is probably reason why the counter was so cheap, trying to get people to order them, maybe?
I'm building the exact desk but I'm a little confused on the bolts for the casters. The amazon link says they come with M8 x 15MM bolts. So I don't have to order them?
@@runthejoules Did your plate have that golden color too at the start, or was it always that warm brownish tone? Yours seemed more chill and calm to me (which i like). I really want to tone down that golden/ yellow color and the texture to get a more even and calm look to it aswell as make it a little darker. Seems very busy right now :/
The maximum desktop size supported by Jarvis is 70"x30" and the manufacturer cautions against more than 4" of overhang. Did you cut the tabletop or just took the risk?
@@runthejoules I'd like to express great personal gratitude for the awesome hint with Interbuild. Where I live now, in Holland, good wooden table tops cost literally a fortune, and you often also need to cover them yourself with stain or oil, also delivery is quite expensive. But with your advice, I am planning to buy an acacia desk and make up a perfect working set up, after having spent a good couple of months watching highly - esthetic videos of somebody else's desks
So Im sat here taking notes for when I do my desk and when I look at your face I think to myself "Wait, I know his face from somewhere..... HOLY SHIT ITS THE LOAM RANGER!"
Was thinking of a similar setup for a kitchen office setup. I wondered what the stability might be like on the castors with an ultra wide. What monitor and mount are u running I would want to move it about a reasonable amount on the mount and on the castors but would be over a smooth tiled floor. Do you think it would hold up. Great video subscribed for the next one.
Zero issues with stability on castors. There's a ton of weight on the far side of the desk (monitor, speakers, power banks, the laptop...nearly everything) and I have no concerns when moving it around the room, our when I'm swivelling the monitor around. Should be even better on a smooth surface (mine is on carpet). Hope that helps!
How stable is this? I've been leaning toward getting a 4-leg desk, but I hesitate because I like having my desk low enough to touch my legs and a bar there would be uncomfortable. But, I also want stability (FPS gaming).
If you wanted to make sure it was rock solid, you might look into uplift. They make commercial grade bases. Of course having feet instead of casters would also increase your stability.
Who watched this in HDR?? 🌞😎
Looks good 🤩

The time stamps haha. Dope video I'm gonna do my own totally sold thanks heaps sir
alright, i've been planning a new desk for a while but this video just pushed me over the edge. ordering a countertop today!
Nice! I think it's the way to go as far as value for money is concerned.
Did it push you over the... live edge?

all this talk of stack height and cutting stems got me excited..... and that beautiful desk got me droolin'! lol

pretty sure the ikea ones are not solid wood. they are just a wood veneer with cheap particle board inside.
@@theErock1990 correct, they are garbage
This is so awesome and I’m honestly highly considering this approach thank you for this!!

Digging the desk. Looks rad. I recently built one using a piece of butcher block.
Whoa, that would be awesome too!

wow so glad I saw this, dream build mode activated
I have bought that top from Home Depot also. Great deal.

what are those speaker stands can you share the link please?
Wait, almost CAD600 for a piece of wood? I can get the same one from my DIY store for like CAD100, 200 top here in France! Is Canada THAT expensive? 😳

Always about that metric buttload. Rad vid! got me looking sidelong at my desk setup now. 😆
I ordered the teak one too. It seems more yellow in color than yours and not as calm texture wise. Will that get better when i apply the oil? :)
I found that the color did get a little richer once I applied the oil. 👍

Do they regularly restock or is the 31.5in just out of stock forever now?
Urge to hand-crank it at my desk rising...
Thoughts on trimming down the desk to 70" on a table saw? Would it completely ruin the side?
I think it would be just fine after you put a coat of oil on it.
Sand with at least 240 grit sandpaper before applying finish.

I risked it with the full length, 79” tabletop! No issues whatsoever.

You bet. All the links are down in the bio.
@@runthejoules But the link doesn't show the desk with the hand crank, it links to the ones with the touch control.
What is the exact size of the table top in terms of width?

Great video brother 👍🏿, I'm here for the long haul. keep them coming.
Nice video with some great tips
Glad it was helpful!
Love the desk, nothing from that company available in my area =(
The links for the wood does not work. I would like to order it to germany. Can u send me a different link?
I love this idea, but I am concerned with the live edge on both sides. Does it cause any issues with the monitor mount?
Live-edge on both sides would mean that the desk will not sit flush to my wall right? Thats basically a deal-breaker then i guess, unless you cut it.
@@laserloui2008 Looking at this desk and the links to Home Depot, the live edge is only on 1 side.
a few of your links are dead :( please update them!
Do you have info (build process) on speaker stands? I want to do the same...
That’s coming up soon in the cable routing video. 🍻

Herman Miller chair hack next please.
Find a used one and have a sketchy office chair buying encounter in a Best Buy parking lot… that was my experience, anyways. 😬😂

I was so excited bc this build is perfect for me but apparently Jarvis no longer just sells the frame.
Oh dang that sucks! Hmm I’ll have to look for a comparable equivalent. Thanks for the heads up.
YES YES YES 👍🏻
The price difference between US and CAN is really weird
Agreed. I was surprised when I compared prices.
where are u seeing thousands? wayfair has live edge oak standing desks for 400-500
you still got ripped off on that slab
oof $625 CAD these days.
