@@jpebrz when you're a kid and running back and forth trying to get to places it's kinda hard to remember. I played it again recently and it wasn't so bad. Nothing is as bad as Buu's fury when you had to go into babadi's ship. You could get turned around easily in there.
I think making it a bit of a maze was done intentionally. this would be confusing since most of us were kids when we first played it much like Gohan. Gohan is the first character we play as in the city and he has never really gotten out much since Chichi makes him study all the time so West City would be confusing for him. it helps playing as Gohan cause a lot of us could really relate to Gohan's. we are a kid with super powers and getting to experience what it would be like to be like a Saiyan cause honestly what DBZ fan didn't want to a be a Saiyan at least once as kid. after we explore and get used to the city we get to play as the older characters that know their way around a little better so you actually feel progression in the game both as a player/fan and as the characters you play as.
@@XanafiedcatGaming Very cool analysis! I think Plague of Gripes made a video about DBZ working well when Gohan was a surrogate insert of the kid watching it and I just found it very true (also why DBZ started to stagnate in the Buu Arc- Gohan grew up and had to become a "character" rather than a blank canvas for the viewer). I think a big part of why the game works so well is pretty much the same reason -- you are experiencing a lot of the wonder of the world through an innocent kid's point-of-view while you were also one, which helped you get immersed in the experience so much more. I remember finally playing as Goku was so gratifying because he was built up so much in the game as this larger-than-life figure. Still one of my very favorite RPGs. Holds up as being not only an amazing DBZ game, but just as a piece of art in general.
@@SlantCarson still can't bleive on how we didn't have rom hacks of legacy of goku 2, and buu's fury. Pokemon has a bunch of great rom hacks, but thats problay becuase the dbz games are harder to decode and dont have a bigger fanbase. Imagine the rom hacks we can get outta of these games.
its crazy that west city, while only being one area in the game got a 3 minute musical loop with melodies as good as this...this track is truly a spectacle to behold
ACTUALLY the best gba game ever made both this and buu's fury were one of my childhood highlights. Returning home from school and rushing to my gameboy advance to continue where i left off was just.... priceless
I maxed out cookies on my emulator by setting it to autotap A, and frameskip toggled on mute. I then got an actual plate of cookies and milk and chilled out to this song on youtube and came back to her smiling in most concerned fashion.
I spent so much time in west city looking for that Eyes of the Lion vinil... it caused pain. However, this game and Mystery Dungeon: Blue rescue team have a special place in my heart and summer of 2005. It's just... the feels man.
I remember playing this game with my brother on a GBA emulator; we would keep walking around in West City for the heck of it. This brings me a lot of nostalgia 🔥😃
So cool how all of us have the same memories and ideas as a youngster. From playing till we fell asleep to plugging headphones in our gameboys to use it like an MP3 player. Good times
i played this game young asf without even seeing the anime at all. This was my first intro to dbz. The story the music everything made me a fan at just a maybe 5-7 not knowing there was a whole story and world to this game, but Being stuck on west city because i forgot i had to get hercule his medal i think and just running around the city(with no knowledge of the anime) meeting people while having this blasting out the speakers. We all have a nostalgic story with this game im just glad to know im not alone ❤️🔥❤️🔥
I remember beating this game like 50 damn times when I was a kid. Now that I’m grown I wanna play through again so I can pay attention to the story lol
R.I.P Akira Toriyama, you absolute legend. Thank you for creating Dragonball and leaving us decades worth of memories.
