G'day Jack. We keep Ember tetras with Cherry Shrimp. Seems to work out OK.

Hillstream loaches and Borneo suckers are probably fairly safe. Also mystery snails waste is good food for microfauna which shrimplets are supposed to be fans of.

Yeah the task that has the one hill stream loach is actually going to be redone so I can start breeding them. I love that fish. I kind of love my panda garras more, but these fish are pretty cool too. When I had a few of them, they looked like they were playing a game king of the moss ball.

You know what would be cool? Two identical tanks with the same starting shrimp. One tank as a control, the other with fish added. The test would be whether shrimp dealing with predators reproduce faster to protect the colony

    Dear Jack:
I didn’t intend to keep cherry shrimp with Columbian tetra. But, they hitched a ride on a couple of driftwood decorations covered in Java moss, which I had to quickly move, when my, 29-gallon tank sprang a leak. Since then, the population of cherry shrimp has continued to grow in my, 120-gallon tank. I few days ago, I noticed a Columbian tetra eating a juvenile, cherry shrimp. I suspected this was happening, but hadn’t seen it, until then. Yet, there are so many hiding places among driftwood and Java moss in the large tank, that the colony is sustained.
I’ll probably keep white clouds with cherry shrimp, eventually. Mine are breeding in my 20-gallon, tall tank. But, I decided to only keep a couple of Amano shrimp in that tank, for now. I have two, 10-gallon tanks dedicated to cherry shrimp, alone. I intend to make my, next, 10-gallon aquascape a cherry shrimp tank and keep it culled. But, it is on hold until the Mopani driftwood in that tank ceases to exude so much tannin.
Thank you for sharing this, interesting and informative video on tank-mates for dwarf shrimp. Your panda garra (Garra flavatra) are too cute!
    All my best,
    Sincerely,
    E. J. Brinegar

I'm glad you liked the show. There was so much more I wanted to do with it like add pictures of some of the fish I mentioned, but I didn't want to use copyright material and step on anyone's toes. I'm going to start going over to my LFS and shoot some pics and videos for some of my future shows. That or maybe some fish fam folks will let me use some of their material for some of my videos.
I think your shrimp would appreciate the tannins just as long as your water isn't too soft. My tanks with some of my shrimp are registering a ph of 6.0 with a kh of only 2 dps, but my shrimp are molting fine. I find they love love love leaves like Indian almond leaves and Jack fruit leaves as well. Those are a staple in my shrimps diet.
I love my panda garras. I should do show on them soon. They are one of my most favorite fish. They are pricey at $20 each, but worth every cent. If you get the chance to get some, then do it. You will not be disappointed.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video buddy.
      Take care my friend,
      Jack

      Dear Jack:
I’m very glad that we get a look at you, in your videos. I’m following several channels, the producers of which, stay behind the camera. I’m naturally curious to know what they look like. I’ve visited a few channels that seem to get away with using copyrighted material. I don’t recommend it. Sharing shots of species of interest from the local, pet store is a very good idea. Sharing the work of other UA-camrs, with their permission, is better. Getting shots in a store is problematic (mainly due to glare). Also, the aquaria in many, pet stores look terrible. They are set up to temporarily house stock, so no attention is paid to aquascaping.
It’s fine to mention species that you don’t show. I didn’t know what a “diamond head tetra” was. With a quick search of Google Images, I came to know that you were referring to the “diamond head neon tetra,” an excellent tank-mate for dwarf shrimp.
I realize that shrimp appreciate tannin. I add coral skeleton to the filters of all, my, shrimp tanks and the water here already is very hard and alkaline. However, I prefer setups with clear water, rather than blackwater. My betta’s tank has quite a bit of Mopani driftwood. But, I soaked that wood much longer than the wood for my, next aquascape. I wish I had saved the Indian almond leaves I purchased, years ago. I have found that a one-gallon jar, daphnia magna culture does fine with a single leaf from the tree in my yard. I may give that a go in a shrimp colony. I am unable to identify the tree, but it doesn’t appear to be toxic, in small doses.
I hope that your spouse has made a complete recovery.
      Sincerely,
      Brinegar

@@ejbrinegar the darker tannin water might make the shrimp perform better if they feel more hidden and secure. It would be yet another fun test

Send me a picture of that leaf if you can. I know a lot of terrestrial plants. I maybe able to identify it. I filmy mind the tannins at all. I used to, but now I enjoy the natural look of it. Betta White really seems to enjoy it. After I clean his tank and add more tannins he shows his appreciation by making a bubble nest. I too am often curious on what some of these guys look like as well. I just like putting a face with the voice.
Thank you for the well wishes with my spouse. He is doing better.

      Dear Chris Robertson:
Yes, I may not have the patience to wait for the Mopani driftwood to become depleted of tannin. I have boiled such wood, in the past, to get tannin out, but this tends to ruin a pot. I'll definitely use the drip method to add shrimp to the new setup. As they come from and are going to an unheated tank, I can take hours for the process. Hopefully, they will adjust to the new, water parameters, successfully.
      Thank you for your suggestion.
      All my best,
      Sincerely,
      Brinegar
