One thing is for sure Dave Lombardo rejoining slayer back in the early two two thousands is the whole reason for slayer getting the resurgence that happened If you look at the places They were playing in by the early two thousands it was quite clear that they were a theatre club band at that point in their career But as soon as people knew dave was back And a new album was on the way They rapidly became an arena band again
That had nothing to do with it. Back in those days every metal band was playing smaller venues. Thanks To Mtv Shittin' on Real Bands & Pushing All That Korn/Limp Bizkit Bullshit.
I don´t know if that´s due to some kind of sound configuration issue at the hall or not, but I love the harsh distortion in Hanneman´s guitar, I never heard it before, and that´s nasty..!
Totally, agree with you. I've listened to this set six times in the last few days and compared his sound on others. His tone coming from the Jackson's compared to his ESP's.. IMO, have a raw deeper sound to them.
Hell Awaits is their most underrated track. Hearing it, even though it is long, it sounds like "THIS IS FUCKING SLAYER! THIS IS EVIL INCARNATE! NOW STRAP YOUR ASSHOLE IN BABY!"
Jeff had the best looking guitars, the camo with eagle inlays and sig runes below the 12th fret. But my favourite was the ESP camo with the totenkopf skull inlays.

This show is called Slayer - Live at Montreux 2002 DVD. I don't know about the American audience but this concert is available on DVD in Europe. Was this concert just a TV-rip and is the quality any better than on this video? To me it seems like this is just a TV-rip bootleg and many record stores are still selling this. There is no mention of this DVD on Slayer wikipedia site either. I cannot find a good review of the DVD anywhere. I once bought an unofficial Nine Inch Nails DVD and the quality was just shit and all the cursewords were muted.
It's a real shame they didn't retire after this concert. They really really went down hill in a few years after this. Definitely they should have broken up before Arraya could no longer headbang.
