This one is a doozy. I drive around the hills in my new favorite car and then get a whole ton of history lessons about east Tennessee and early America.

I live in Knoxville, I grew up here. My family moved here when I was 5 yrs old.Knoxville has been under construction as long as I can remember. And still is...lol... My first memory of downtown Knoxville was in 1977.My 2 brothers & I was with our mom out walking around and my brothers & I looked up at the mirror glass bank ( Tennessee Bank) we saw the clouds moving on the reflection on the bank and in our little kid minds (3,5&6) we thought the building was falling on us...So we started screaming & running down the road.In front of the court house ( main st) they had construction on the road. And at that same time a fire truck was coming down the road. My poor mom was freaking out over her 3 small kids running in terror Away from her...lmao...good memories...
I still live here.i was born in Los Angeles but I've been in east Tennessee most of my life.So I consider myself a Tennessee girl...
Its February 2021 now & The Smoky Mountains are opened now,so if you get a chance come back and check them out. They are beautiful 💚

    The Old Courthouse you showed,
    Knoxville's second courthouse,
is still in use. The more serious court precedings happen there.

    It's pronounced "Blunt",
not "Blownt". And it was a mansion by the standards of the days in which it was built, because it had siding and glass windows.

"Blount" (not Blownt) is correct. It was named after Gov. William Blount, who was responsible for Tennessee becoming a state.
You should also check Marble Springs, Mabry-Hazen House, Bleak/Armstrong House, historic Ramsey House Plantation, Crescent Bend, James White Fort, and the Craighead-Jackson House. They are all within about 15 minutes of each other.
By the way, Knoxville was actually the first capitol of Tennessee, but due to time of travel for our Western Tennessee representatives, it was more centrally located to Nashville.
    Welcome to Tennessee!

Add to that the Tennessee Theater. Worth the visit.

The 1982 World's Fair was only successful for the Butcher brothers, CH & Jake.
Their bank buildings are the 2 prominent buildings in the Knoxville skyline.
They made loans to imaginary people (themselves) then defaulted on the loans.
Local people also borrowed money from the Butchers snd added rooms onto their houses, expecting to be able to rent them at top dollar to Fsir visitors, and they lost their butts.
The Butcher brothers each did time in prison for it.

William & Mary Blount's graves are the first 2 graves you see, right in the front corner by of the Presbyterian church graveyard. There's a map that tells you that.....

Blount was a "land owner guy" ? 😆
And it's the Andrew Johnson Hotel,
    not "building".
"Hank Williams At, or someone" ?
It WAS in fact Hank Williams.
The theory is that he died in Knoxville, and his body was sneaked out to avoid a news frenzy.

    One other note.
The Women's Suffrage Memorial us due to Harry T Burn, who single handedly paved the way for the 19th amendment.
