- The Rune token protocol deployed a few days ago at the Bitcoin halving block (840,000). Since then we witnessed an insane increase in Bitcoin fee’s but this level of excitement and market activity was short lived and only last for a few hours up until a majority of the first 10 Rune deployments were minted. Already the market is displaying signs of exhaustion and disappointment in what Runes ultimately delivers for the Bitcoin metaprotocol space. We discuss our thoughts and experience based on the events that unfolded over the weekend.

Bitmap has intrinsic use value. I couldn't see the use case for Runes. However, how will the metaverse scale? I still like Bitmaps

As an engineer, I can confirm we are not working on runes. Currently cooking up something for bitmap and brc20. The moral of the story is opportunities don’t wait for anyone, most of us deployed tokens already. Nobody was waiting for casey to deploy on runes, simply took too long. The halving was cool, had a nice smoke on 420, but don’t get lost in the haze. Bitmap > runes

I don't know how this ecosystem expands beyond deploy, mint and transfer. But it could interplay with ordinals pretty seamlessly.

Often when general public loses interest, especially if there is sudden bearish sentiment going around without any fundamentals being changed, whales start to accumulate and finally things rocket when low priced supply has been hoarded. We saw this with Pepe on Eth, Bonk on Solana etc.
What fundamentals did PEPE and Bonk have that was a clear winner despite the loss of interest?

(I suggest looking into history and ecosystem of Bonk by the way, there’s actually quite a bit going on. Not that it wouldn’t still be a shitcoin like all of these)

We are in the ‘pragmatist’ phase of ordinal/Bitcoin ecosystem adoption. This I think is the final proving point. Going forward ppl will look for functionality. L2s and meta protocols will win walking forward I think

We like to analyze the market to understand what the invisible hand is doing. We definitely do not recommend buying any of this stuff, but instead learn about all of it. Part of learning is getting into the mix so even though you’re down you’ve learned something for the next run.
Something I've learnt navigating the crypto space for a while is that you can never fade stupidity.
Your points are so valid and logic BUT Binance teases to list Runes.
Stupidity is underrated.
That’s something we learned too. It’s an important lesson is to recognize where the audience is and act accordingly.
The Runes protocol appears to have little differences from the BRC-20 protocol. Is it possible to enhance the BRC-20 protocol to match the functionalities of the Runes protocol? Considering the significant value embedded in BRC-20, enhancing it could potentially maintain a more united BRC-20 community. Personally, I believe Ordinals hold a stronger narrative compared to Runes because Ordinal assets are seen more as collectibles, unlike the hundreds of meme coins that are likely to plummet in value as that market quickly becomes over saturated with meme coins specially when shorter names are coming in a few months

I was in ordinals on day 1. Runes is what Brc20s could never be.
And they come with cool emoji symbols/logos/short+long tickers.
That’s not 100% correct.
If you have 1 million runes tokens on a single UTXO, you still need to break up that UTXO to sell a part of that runes balance that you have. It’s just a little cheaper to split a UTXO than to inscribe a new JSON file.
I think it might swing back to Ordinals, and DMT-NAT ecosystem now… Because Runes hype came in and stole the limelight away from DMT, before DMT had any amount of time to percolate and achieve anything significant. And if this happens, I think they will have a big run this time. 🔥
PS: A positive about Runes was just the overall levels of excitement and engagement… It’s been a full on, enjoyable, energetic month! ✌️

@@TheBlockRunner coming from the eth world so this is a noob question: smart contract functionalities (any manipulations of a token other than etch, mint and transfer) drive demand for tokens but btc architecturally can’t have smart contracts on-chain, so the job has to be done by an L2?

I believe runes runed it 😅😅....seriously, i think runes should've been released first to have some fun and test the market then the ordinals, im not an expert, but what happened was a disaster and waste of money and time for those who probably minted and i watched it live with yagobi and his buddy for an hour then i gave up, and all the excitement i had went away within that one hour, and Casey made a big mistake here, specially with premined BS projects. I believe in tap and trac and so far i think they're the only serious projects on the mother chain!

The reason I became skeptical was because during the discord Leonidas was asked where the money for the airdrops is coming from and he danced around it, didn't answer the question. Secondly.. those fungible tokens aren't divisible like btc an so a meme coin that costs 5k just to be in seems unsustainable in my opinion.
You can break these down by breaking down the UTXO into small pieces. But yeah, not a lot of functionality here.
Wait... so your saying I can buy a runestone that costs 0.07 btc I can buy just a fraction of that over time? I don't think that's how it works because they're numerical in order and older ones cost more. I don't think you can divvy that up. I think they're divided up already.... and even if you could do that are you saying retail will even be savvy enough to know how to do that? Heck I mean I'm retail. I've been doing the due diligence and I'm somewhat savvy, but if I can't do it or have a hard time with it that's a good sign that it's too hard and may cause retail to look elsewhere especially if there isn't millionairs frothing at the mouth drunk on gains screeming through a Twitter megaphone motivating people to learn.

These guys are rune haters. All meme has no value, ordi and sats shouldn't be 1 billion usd marketcap. But if you're talking about fungible tokens protocol, runes is by far more superior than the clunky json protocol
