- After Runes launch the picture of Bitcoin’s future is becoming clearer. We think it is unlikely that Runes will render all other Bitcoin metaprotocols useless. So the question now is what are all other metaprotocols up to. We break down and discuss how metaprotocols on Bitcoin operate and the differences between them and Ethereum protocols. We identify Trac’s TAP, CBRC20s, Atomicals, and Stamps as viable metaprotocols as of now. We discuss upcoming infrastructure providers like Metashrew and OPI who are working to provide critical indexing technology for developers to quickly spin up their own metaprotocols. Some people are saying that Runes will be mostly a dumping market for a while but because it got so popular that even a lot normies that never got into crypto heard about it and are slowly starting to get interesed it might pick back up from the bottom

Yeah runes has done the marketing to attract more people. The thesis is memes have limited fuel to sustain interest, and projects with fundamental applicability will sustain.

They employ recursion and a new standard called Bitgen to pre-inscribe all layers to Bitcoin. Look up the ghostface killah ordinal, I think that one has the most potential for the future & the most valuable /unique ordinal created so far. Maybe not Pepes itself but the actual collaboration is unique to the ordinal space.

@@mikeaknin yes it did drop already, & all 10k are gone within a week. It was a free mint but most of us paid about $100 in gas fees just to get it. It started about 1- 1 1/2 weeks before the halving.

The biggest issue is that the BTC chain can't manage the volume of transactions it faces. With the upcoming halving in four years, transaction fees will climb even higher. The only solution i see would be to utilize existing proof of work chains or start developing some type of IBC that can use POW side chains to meet the demand for transactions. Unfortunately, there seems to be no effort from developers to be working on this issue. Instead, the focus of current development efforts is on creating additional protocols that further slow down the bitcoin blockchain. I don't support the layer 2 narrative because all are centralized
