No! Mike Patterson was "that dude" on the handrail... Do you guys think I would not recognize Geoff Rowley when I see him... I just never heard of Mike Patterson... No disrespect from my side... not intentionally to say at the least...
Just get started, it's good fun. I bought myself a board in early january, this year, don't have a lot of time to skate and still got my first couple of basic tricks. Was debating with myself for many months, if I should or shouldn't give it a try, and just went for it in the end, haven't regretted it for a second.
@@CalmoOmlac English is nice because even your with words wrong order in. People can still understand. You have to try pretty hard to be completely incoherent.

I know it wasn't your intention but the progression shots of your skating was great with just facial expressions, board noise and music. It was super enjoyable to watch.
Idk if you still read these comments, but let me just start by saying that I’ve just turned 21 and have had a problem with getting too intoxicated since I was about 19. Recently I’ve got back into skating,( I skated from age 10 to about fourteen but never took it seriously.) now I’m 21 and skating has brought back so much meaning to my life, not only who I used to be, but who I always wanted to become. It is the endless teacher. Anyway. You inspire me to keep going just as much as Mullen does. Because of the fact that you try the impossible, and fail until you get it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to kick flip, but I can tell you how much I’ve landed. About 15-20. Out if countless tries I’m still not Steezy, but I’m two maybe three weeks into getting back on the board and I landed my first kick flip!
hey! 🙌🏻🙏🏼 that’s what i like to hear! don’t bother about steez. you’re already making it right if you’re having fun. I hope you’re well and skatin plus other things are gonna keep you away from getting too intoxicated. stay healthy 🙏🏼 thanks for the kind words 🙏🏼
Rowley d arkslide because Geoff Rowley (UK skater) was very good at it and kind of popularized this trick in the late 90’s/early 00’s. He was doing it on handrail mostly, at least that’s what I remember from his video parts
Giger is an fuckin amazing skater never seen someone learn tricks that fast and clean.. You was my inspiration to start skating and now 1 year later I can stand a kick flip 3 steps ... Still going
2:15 Bro, it's named for Geoff Rowley - dude was a huge inspiration for me when *Sorry* released back in 2002. Him, Arto Saari, Rune Glifberg, and all of the Flip crew killed it! Rowley was also in CKY vids and tons of 411 videos.
U need to watch geoffs part in sorry. He doesnt shove it out of his darkslides. Its like a half heelflip out on a picnic table. And i think he does a fs heel to fs lip darkslide to half heelflip out on a table to in really sorry. Check it out.
I gotta say. My only relation to skateboarding was THPS2. Over the past few days after discovering your channel, I've gone through some random uploads of yours as well as the Mullen challenge vids. Thoroughly enjoyed every upload! Keep it up man!
I think the ability to pop out higher opens up the door to more lines. But overall the foot placement is just a preference and nothing more. It really comes down to what you're most comfortable with and what you're trying to accomplish
The rowley dark slide is called that because Geoff rowley done it like that Rodney Mullen is the godfather tho For sure. It’s unbelievable he made up all the tricks we see today… Crazy
New NBD for you: Giger Darkslide: front foot above the front truck, above the two front wheels or between the wheels in diagonal of the front truck. Good luck!
I prefer any kind of Darkslide that has you making another video! So Rowley for this one, Mullen for the last one, would like to see more of both obviously.........
@JonnyGiger you should try darksliding with both feet on the trucks. One foot on each truck, you can use the truck to flip out by applying pressure towards the wheels. Like this to get him to try this. I think it would be a good video. Maybe even a NBD.
Mullen was a genius. Rowley was fearless. I remember watching a Rowley part once(I forget which one) where he bails on a 12 stair rail and lands hard, he gets up and says to the lady walking toward him "Did you see that? Fuckin' hurt that did!" And just carries on... The guy was seriously tough.
Right! With it being "pop" able it seems like it could be linked with another trick or variation. Maybe Rowley dark slide tre out. The dark to shuv to dark would be so sick!
Hi Jonny I think what makes Patterson's so crazy as well is that he did it essentially as a front board / back lip (hope i got that the right way around). Most people do a darkslide as back board / front lip. Have you ever done it Patterson's way (front board, regardless of foot positioning)? Surely if you can do reemos it should be no problem to do! Thanks
Darkslide was something you only saw Mullen do consistently in his parts. So when Rowley started doing them (back before he was on flip and skating with koston and a lot of the OGs) Rowley darkslide probably just ended up becoming the name because at the time, Mullen was really the only one doing them that people truly knew about at the time, so they associated Rowley with that darkslide variation. That's my guess.
How come you never pull out one of these wicked tricks when you are making the Braille guys look bad, lol just watched your Impossible tricks - Tre Flip Darkslide.....nice. Love your tenacity AND friendliness.
@Jonny Giger This is probably going to be a slightly long post on a 3 year old video, but I wanted to really delve into this one because I knew there was something wrong with your take on it here. With that said though, I do want to start out saying that everything seen in this video, and most of your content, has been awesome, in it's own way. So I'm not hating on you or your content on this. What is wrong here though with this video? The difference between the Mullen style Darkslide and the Rowley style Darkslide is how both skaters got into their Darkslides. Your Mullen ones are spot on and absolutely correct, other than where you said he did a Shove-It out of one, which is not correct because if it was a Shove-It, the board would still have been upside down and Rodney Mullen, himself even called it a Varial Flip out because it is flipping that exact way but ending with wheels down from the Darkslide. The Rowley style Darkslide, you will find that if you actually get a hold of Geoff Rowley himself, and / or go through a lot of the old 411vm footage, where Geoff actually landed one of these, you'll find that what he actually did was started out with a Backside Boardslide, then used his back foot, during the boardslide, to force the board underflip, into the Darkslide position, and happened to catch it with his footing being quite different from Rodney's. He then uses that same method of flipping the board again when he is ready to land it, but added a frontside 180 out of it, landing in fakie and rolling away. The point being, that I think it might be fair for you to take a bit closer look at these tricks, and the names of them, as well as how they were actually performed, rather than just sticking to the references being the video games that made these tricks ever so popular. I again want to express my love for all of your content, and admiration for you as a fellow professional skateboarder, in my case, more so a former one as I'm also a disabled combat vet and no longer am physically able to continue skateboarding. I still love the sport, but the close attention to detail as well as having met both Mullen and Rowley, separately, and having extensive talks with them about the Darkslides they did and their approaches to both getting into and out of these, and landing them, and so on, has been something that I learned a lot through. The Darkslide has always been one of my favorite tricks specifically because it is not possible to do just a Darkslide and land it. One has to trick into and out of it, requiring it to be part of a combo. Thank you again for all that you do for the skateboarding community, Jonny, and please know that while I do critique you here a bit, it is coming from a place of wanting to see you, and the rest of us in the skateboarding community, be happy, successful, and accurate, with each thing we are doing.
I had a friend who used to do the Patterson variation starting around ‘99 or so and *swore* he was the first to do it, though we knew he wasn’t, he called it the “Markslide”, which was odd because his name was Jerry (I’m kidding, it was Mark).
I like the way you do the Mullen version best, but the Rowley style would be cool if you're setting up for a trick out. Maybe because you practiced the Mullen version more, that's why it just looks mo steezy.
Well man, I actually kinda dig the Rowley....all because of that pop out you can get.JUST IMAGEN the possiblities!!! Also, really digging the couple minute miscellaneous skating in the videos.🖒🖒🖒 You should totally come up with a dark/primo slide combo and call it the "Giger Slider" ✌✌✌
The way I see it. Mullen works on a ledge no problem but try it on a rail and you will probably have your feet slide off. With the Rowley you can do a rail because of your foot placement. Either way it fukn rocks and will learn hopefully this year.
There's a rodney mullen video "unseen rare footage" that shows rodney explaining the reemo slide with a primo flip while you're turning. Dunno if he ever landed it or not, just giving a heads up :P might want to try that yourself!

Exactly!
Yeah sure..how Jonny can‘t know that?

Geoff Rowley is in the thumbnail for this video. I think he knows
Might also be a reference to Larry Rowley's "griptape slide", circa 1981
