13:31 UPDATE there's a fix for screen flicker: mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9748 I have confirmed this resolved the issue for us.
6:40 I said 4 and a half hours battery life, that is correct, the graph is incorrect, which I also used to base the percentages on, which are also incorrect. I have updated the graph for future videos, however the value should be 273 mins. So it's actually 16% more battery life from a 12% larger battery vs last year's Blade 17, still an improvement, but no where near as much as I said based on the incorrect graph.
Advanced Optimus might disappear after updating the Nvidia drivers, you can fix that here: jarrods.tech/how-to-fix-razer-blade-18-missing-advanced-optimus/

The smaller form factor of a laptop was the one that caught my eye, but after seeing the posts on how powerful the Blade 18 can go (Rivals or Beats an RTX 3090/i9 12900k from some posts I've seen), I'm excited for the bigger machines. What's really nice is how much they improved over the previous generations, the battery level cap, actual CPU overclocking, bright displays, and I'm pretty sure what's left is just to improve battery consumption. I've read that Windows has an issue with swapping to E-Cores, causing massive battery drain.

Yes but main reason is their node 10nm so huge power consumption in single core tasks or light tasks.

@@FesterSilentlyI hate numpads so much that I'll never buy a laptop that has one, like ever. The numpad on laptops is often right next to the enter key, and that makes it hard to know where the enter key and arrow keys are without looking down at the keyboard. (Unlike on desktop keyboards, the is no space separating the numpad from the normal keys.) Also, on laptops with a numpad, the touchpad is shifted to the left, and that makes using that ''lap''top on your lap feel awkward.
A bigger laptop to me means a bigger/a more immersive screen.

Hey Jarrod, thanks for testing the laptop with Ubuntu. I bought the same spec Blade four days ago and after hours of trying to fix the speakers issue, I couldn't (although I'm experienced in Linux OS). Most probably, the processor is pretty new, the drivers don't seem to be supporting the new generation yet. Having used it as a daily driver for my software development setup, migrating from a well-speced MacBook Pro feels like some sacrifice on screen resolution, but nothing else beats it in terms of performance. For my developer usage based on tools like VS Code, IntelliJ IDEA, terminal emulators and many Chrome processes, the battery lasted more than two hours with relatively moderate brightness. I, personally, do not intend to use it for gaming, but rather for my professional work. An RTX 4080 easily allows me to plug three 4K displays (120Hz, 60Hz, 60Hz), plus the laptop screen, and they all work well. The headphone jack works though, and also a Bluetooth earbud. Would recommend developer folks like me. As an additional suggestion, instead of carrying that small-but-still-big charger, get a USB-C charger from Razer and a Thunderbolt 4 dock for a full-fledged setup.

One of the biggest issues with that one was that the front edges of the chassi where the wrists rests where razor (pun intended) sharp so I had to put some tape on it. I know I have on my ASUS V752VM from 2016. 17" screen, but I bet that the laptop size is about the same as this 18", as the bezels seem huge (not a problem for me though, but it does show its age). I don't think it needs specialized bags, the one meant to carry 17" laptops should fit this fine.

Although discrete GPU fixes the flickering during normal use, the screen still flickers in game, which makes it completely unusable. I returned Blade 18 4090 the next day due to flickering issues as well. Same observations actually - dGPU mode made it less frequent/visible in normal use, but it was still present in games. Also, when I recorded the issue with my phone I could clearly see pixel-wide vertical lines in at least 2 places on the screen that looked like bad pixels (maybe some out of sync issue related to flickering, not sure).

And the 4080 blade is $500 cheaper than the 4080 titan.

How often do you use numpad though? As desktop user with multiple full-sized keyboards across decades, I mostly used it for keybinds and occasionally some calculations. Recently it started bothering me how limited space I have for mouse, the space that numpad occupies. As a developer, I'd rather see TKL layout, and only HP OMEN does that to some degree. In speak of which - I dislike power button being just somewhere on the keyboard.

LOL P cores when gaming are same MHZ as e cores.
Maybe since the CPU is properly unlocked, we can get better speeds on P cores by disabling the E. I mean 8 cores at 4ghz will for example will perform better in GAMES than 24 cores at 2ghz. Clock speed and single core performance matters. Thoughts?

The one and we know about jarrod review is he always dare to say not good if laptop is not good. And always have their own opinion about the unit Itself, "its not like common review says, its your decision"
    Respect Jarrod 💯

Hey Jarrod i have a Blade 18" aswell and got the same Flickering issue. But here is something new to add for you: I never opened the Intel Software. First Time i got it was after updting NVidia Drivers. Secound Time after a Reset it happend the First time in Synapse. I am now in a bad situation i am not Sure if i want to keep a 5200€ Laptop with a bug or should i send it back :-( Till Razer support was not the Best in the past i dont know how long it would take till they fix it. I would use the Blade 18" for my work aswell as for Gaming so a lowered Batterylife with NVIDIA only is bad for me. Sidefact: I also have a Blade 16" here and there it did not happen till now. In now will start it and try to reproduse the Problem on the 16" with opening Intel software to cofirm if its a 18" only problem.
Thx for your Amazing work. You inspired me to do Laptoptesting aswell, but i do it atm only for myself!

Hey Guys for everyone who is interested in Informations about the Blade 18" Flicker Problem. I now also have the Problem of Fickering in some Games with optimus turned off in BIOS. In Windows all is fine after closing the Game. I contacted the Razer support but thats for a "normal" customer like a day in Hell. I let you know when i have more information.

@@mathiasbossmann6323 Thank you for your work! BTW try to turn off G-sync in the Nvidia control panel since it helps with the in-game issue under discrete GPU setting. It seems like a mixed problem with G-sync and integrated GPU involved.

I have some Razer Nommo Pro speakers and the THX makes everything sound thin and just strange, the logo is all over the speakers as if it is some next gen audio device.
It does make the speakers feel bigger, wider and more surrounding but at the cost of feeling thinner and less bassey. So I just turn it off and use my own settings.
I guess Razer just really like THX and so on.

Personally i love that there is no number pad. I don't use them, don't like them and i think they are uncomfortable since the keyboard gets shifted slightly to the left.

In your opinion, which laptop is better for gaming Razer 18 or Asus scar 18? Which laptop is more reliable?

Scar in every single way except build quality and speakers. But I don't think those things deserve an extra $1000.
